Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

Ross can!  Rosssssss can!  Ross can get me the tickets!  Somebody call the Police, because Terrence Ross is on fire!  Or, ummm, do we call the Mounties?  I plain just don’t know…  But if anyone (aherm, me) had to feel the Sting of that 51-point outburst against them – out of so left field from Ross that it was out of the Pacific Ocean – then you’re certainly sending a message in a bottle to the fantasy gods asking “Whyyyyyy?!”  51/9/1/1/0 shooting 16-29 and hitting 10 Harvey’s Trays.  “What’s with the sit-com references today JB?!”  Yeah, no one will get that last one… Sit-coms are always fun, light, and don’t end on Sunday nights with me throwing things.  “Enough about you, JB!”  Damn, commenters are angry this morning!  DeMar DeRozan sprained his foot in that game, and while Ross was already hot, no DeRozan helped him get hotter.  “Hansel is so hot right now.”  DeRozan looks like he’ll miss at least a few games – already not traveling tonight – making Ross a must-own for this week and the immediate future.  The Raptors are all the sudden with 18 less shots a game (no, that’s not me throwing out an arbitrary number, that’s really DeRozan’s FGA a game!) so this is a great opportunity for Jonas Valaciunas as well to go on a solid run.  Will be an interesting game tonight at Brooklyn to see how the two younguns perform.  Here’s what else I saw over the weekend in NBA action:

Carmelo Anthony - Friday seems like a Justin Bieber DUI ago, when Melo put up 62.  Followed it up with 35 last night.  That’s barely half as good.  Drop him immediately.

Dwayne Wade - So weird not seeing a DNP next to his name…  8/3/5/1/0 shooting 3-8 in 24 minutes off the bench yesterday.  Sorry hopeful Razzballers, can’t put a buy low label on him.  But he still has to be owned in most leagues, just too much upside when he plays.  That line last night wasn’t great, but for a first game back in a little while, could’ve been worse…

Mario Chalmers - I had a big flip flop on Chalmers: didn’t buy his hot start, then told everyone he was the guy to own when he got hurt vs. other fringe PGs.  Everyone is too busy living in the now!  16/1/7 shooting a very efficient 6-8 and 2-3 downtown.

Ryan Kelly - The baller from Whoville was the baller from Pooville yesterday.  They’re not all high-brow, folks!  5/1/2/0/0 only playing 21 minutes.  Did get into a bit of foul trouble, but yeah, perils of Doh-toni…

Nick Young - Started.  And sucked.  Moving on.

Manny Harris - 18 points?!  What in the world?!  6-9 (2-3 3PTM 4-4 FT) in only 19:20 and did what the Lakers hoped Nick Young could be.  Efficient.

Raymond Felton - 8-10 shooting in a heat check game.  I just checked it again.  It has high blood pressure.

Tyson Chandler - 13/14 dub-dub.  Will have to get a dub-dub every night for the Knicks to have any sort of big-man presence.  BREAKING NEWS – The Knicks sign Godzilla.  Doh-toni remarks the new signee has character issues.

Tobias Harris - Goromotaro!  From such an unexpected source… 28/20/4/1/0 on Friday night then 17/9/1/0/0 last night.  Imagine if he was healthy all year… But based on the above I’m only imagining dragons…

Tyreke Evans - Imagine if his ankles weren’t held together by toothpicks!  23/7/7/2/1 taking over in the second half yesterday.  What did Charlie Brown say to Pig-Pen?  “You ‘Reke!”

Anthony Davis - I’m probably going to have all low picks in snake drafts next year, and never have Anthony Davis on a team of mine… ever… Ugh.  22/19/3/2/7 in a near Goromotaro and baller Rainbow Line.

Markieff Morris - The streak be goin’!  27/15 last night and absolutely on fire the past 6.  Gotta be owned when hot.

Gerald Green - Is not hot.  4-14 yesterday after 3-8 Friday and 2 for his last 12 from deep.  Just pretend it’s a really long dunk!

Sideshow Varejao - Gave everyone a scare when he hyperextended his knee, but was actually able to return.  Shot awful but yet another double-digit boarding game.  May miss a game depending on how the knee holds up.

Andray Blatche - Playing pretty well right now… I’d even say better than Tristan Thompson… But just for right now… 17/4/1/2/2 in a near rainbow in 25 minutes.  Guess who didn’t have a near-rainbow?  Hah.

Deron Williams - 7/7/7/2/0 in 35 bench minutes to Shaun Livingston‘s 23 minutes.  Yeah, he’s the starter again-ish.

Rajon Rondo - Looked like old Rondo-ish.  13/8/8 but 6 TOs and it wasn’t a 10-ast game!  Arghrghrghrgh.  Love the 31 minutes though.

Phil Pressey - Listen, I’m not unimpressed with his play, just unimpressed with the situation.  18 minutes last night (while not doing much) and Jerryd Bayless is only a game or two out from returning as well.  Just not a fantasy option except in 20-teamers.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope - Another three and 4 steals last night.  He’s a poor-man’s Jodie Meeks.  And by poor, I mean a Detroit dollar vs. a San Jose dollar.

Detroit Pistons - Had no blocks, I repeat, NO BLOCKS last night!  What the hey?  A team with Josh Smith and Andre Drummond couldn’t stuff any of the old-man Mavs?  Thought that was funny.  Long live the Mavs in mid-to-long range!

Devin Harris - Speaking of old man Mavs, Devin Harris is still in the NBA?!  14/7.  I am of course kidding, I said I thought he’d be useful in the deep leagues when he got back on the court and he’s looking like a solid role player.  That role?  Dumbledore.

LaMarcus Aldridge - 2/14 from the field cost me a category against Slim.  I can’t really complain, he had a 44-point game, but Ross had a mother F 51 point game, so I will complain!

Thomas Robinson - Reminded everyone what he could do if he ever got minutes.  One of my worst calls last year was thinking T Rob would have an impact on the Rockets.  You’re reading this now, like, “he played on the Rockets last year?!”  Exactly!  5/11/1/1/1 in only 15 minutes last night.

Stephen Curry - I’ve heard he’s OK at basketball.  Sat right behind him at a Davidson game a few years back!  I should’ve asked him to sign my cleavage… 38/7/8 with 5 treys in a nasty line.  Sunday send-off!  Hopefully it won some people their matchups.

Klay Thompson - ThrAGNOF poster boy!  His Jan average line, if you don’t look at points, are xx/2.1/2.2/0.6/0.3.  Sure 18.1 a game and 3.4 treys are nice, but the FG% is no help, and the 87% FT shooting doesn’t much either when it’s only 1.3 a game.

Evan Fournier - Brian Shaw needs another Shaw-Shank Redemption.  Only 15 minutes for The Virgin while Randy Foye shoots 4-13 and 2-9 from deep.  I just really don’t like Foye that much.  Gimme Frenchy!

Derrick Williams - Ya know, I thought he’d do more, but uber-efficient 12/8/0/2/1 shooting 3-5 and 6-7 FT.  Could’ve gone worse, rough first game, better here.  Tough defenders on him too going against Paul George and Wilson Chandler in these past two starts.  DeMarcus Cousins and Rudy Gay are still out, so Williams I think has a good one tonight against the Jazz.  Don’t sleep on that D from Richard Jefferson!  Hahahahahaha.  But seriously, a great stream spot tonight, last time I emphasized a must-stream it was C.J. Miles going for 30 some-odd points with 10 threes.  Not to gloat or anything!  A little risky since Williams got hit in the mouth last night and might be questionable until near-tip, but I think he plays.  Obviously I recant the must-stream if he’s out.  Duh.

Marcus Thornton - Dropped 42 on Friday.  If Terrence Ross didn’t go all nutso on us Saturday, probably would’ve been the “What the hey?!” award of the weekend.  He’s always been a good shooter when on (“thanks – that’s really telling me something JB!”), but the 8-13 last night (19 Pts) without even hitting a three has me lifting an eyebrow.  Didn’t need to rely on 15 three-point shots like Friday!  Probably snatched up in deeper leagues, but worth a speculative start in 14-teamers or deeper tonight.  Not the official stamp like Derrick Williams has though.

Joe Johnson - People were going nuts on his little hot streak, and now with Deron Williams back, cue the swan dive!

Mirza Teletovic - What was with all these crazy high-scoring games from out-of-nowhere over the weekend!?  This one from Bosnia!  Got 34 on Friday, shot 12-18 including 7-11 from deep, then returned to scoring only 9 shooting 1-6 from deep yesterday.  “He’s a good shooter when he’s on!”  Haha, what a crutch axiom.  So funny.  Even this dude is a good shooter when he’s on!  Going to become a catchphrase for me, too fun.

Nicolas Batum - Ruh Roh.  Set to get an MRI on his foot today, was already playing with a jacked up finger, and had a very rough 5/3/3 game last night as the Blazers got blown out.  I’d want to see what the MRI results indicate first, but after that he gets a nice buy low stamp.  If he misses a game, it might open the window for C.J. McCollum to get a lot of work.  El Burro is so pumped!  But it might only be one game, as the Blazers only have matchups on Tuesday and Saturday this week…

Jeff Teague - Another buy low.  Turned his ankle, already ruled out for today, but I think he’ll be fine.  It’ll be a dirt-cheap buy or even a waiver-wire add.  People be hatin’!

Archie Goodwin - My long lost love averaged 29.5 in two games in the D league, and got called back up to keep his bench spot warm.  Encouraging for his very deep league dynasty prospects.  Like on my team… Bookend with things only about me!  I hope Leo will come out of nowhere to bring me down a peg or two

I hope everyone had a great weekend, and good luck in week 14!

Don’t hate me for asking this JB, but would you trade your BF Knight for Teague? I would try my Marshall but I cant imagine that will be enough to get it done. I’m a little worried that it isn’t a coincidence that teague’s slump perfectly coincided with horford going down. It’s a 8-cat h2h 10-teamer btw

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Shaft: Oh man that’s like Sophie’s Choice! Probably would take Teague, esp if needing assists, but man, would be tough to lose Knight for him until we see him back from the ankle. I don’t think it’ll be an issue, but you never know.

  2. E says:

    Sell high, higher, highest:

    W Chandler
    B Knight
    P Gasol

    10T 9cat keeper

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@E: highest Gasol, Knight (just because I think he has more value overall, but wouldn’t sell, esp. in a keeper), Chandler (as he doesn’t have much value in a keeper 10 team)

  3. Steve Stevenson says:
    (link)

H2H pts, big bonus for dbl-dbls; ast and defensive stats also weighted heavily, need to start 2G, 2F and a Util out of this group:
    G – Giannis (4gms), Vasquez (4), Ross (4), Iggy (3)
    F – D. Williams (4), Nene (3), Hump (3)
    C – Big Baby (4)

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Steve Stevenson: Man, I know you need dub dubs but I think you gotta roll Ross with no DeRozan. Ross, Iggy, Williams, Nene are my picks

  4. Nikko says:
    (link)

I was offered his Augustin and Beal for my Lawson. Thoughts? It’s a H2H league with. There is no FG% or FT%. I also have IT2 at point guard as well.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@SteveV: I think so, haven’t seen anything even hinting he won’t come back, with a report saying it should be a month. Depends on league size/standings, probably holding if you have thus far

  6. Corey says:

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@AJ: Tough one since all very different, depends on needs. Vacuum probably Korver, Morris, Ross, Lopez

  8. Ltee says:

So here is the update! I’m in 8th place now. I lose against a rank 10 but beat rank 1 2 weeks ago. I am 6 games behind the 6th place to make the playoffs. I dropped ross because he was frustrating to watch! Then on Saturday he dropped 50 points! It always Happen. I didn’t pull the trigger on wade for foye. It’s all about stats and wade”s stats doesn’t mesh with my team. I lose Westbrook Bledsoe and rose this season. And being 6 games behind is not bad. My team currently
    Augustin Rubio Lilliard foye Vasquez
    Jjohnson illyasova Webster dunleavy
    Boozer griffin ibaka Kelly

Pope is available and Sullinger has been dropped. My strong stats against top 5 teams. 3ptm turnover free throw and blocks. All I need is 1 strong category! I need to trade griffin bc of the playoff format for the first week will be 2 games w clippers. I tried trading but no one will bite. Should I just under sell him? Any advice on who to grab on the wire. Greatly appreciated!

    • Jenning says:
      (link)

@Ltee: how do you know what the playoff format will be? Curious because I’d like to hav that leg up on my competition lol.

@Jenning: @jenning ask your commisioner. Good luck

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Jenning: In Yahoo, if you look at the overall standings, there’s a “Playoffs” tab that displays what weeks they are and who are in them. ESPN has something comparable

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:

@Jenning: *What teams would be in them if the season ended today

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Ltee: I’m not a Kelly guy, I would grab Sullinger for him. I wouldn’t worry so much about the playoffs yet, gotta get there first! So I wouldn’t undersell Griffin, maybe wait until a huge game then move him. Stupid Terrence Ross! Haha

  9. Connor says:
    (link)

Im streaming Ross for tonight to see how he looks. Any advice for my team? 12 team 10cat
    PG- Rajon Rondo, Chris Paul
SG- Nic Batum, Jodie Meeks, Terrance Ross
    SF- Kevin Durant, Tyreke Evans
PF- Paul Millsap, John Henson, Andray Blatche, Tobias Harris
    C- Joakim Noah, Roy Hibbert

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Connor: Good move on Ross, doing the same. Your team looks great, may lose Asts right now, but you should kill there in the playoffs with Paul back/Rondo hopefully close to 100%. Main advice is cross your fingers Batum is OK! Ha

  10. Tim says:
    (link)

Just wanted to thank you for helping convince me to trade my beloved Henson for Dirk in dynasty league. I was going to hold Dirk, but I love to trade, having added Hayward, Chandler, and Big Al, for Zaza, Nick Young, Hawes (when he was a top 10 player), Lamb, and Tristan. So I was shopping Dirk to teams just on the outside of the playoffs (7-12), and found a taker, but not the one I expected. I sent Dirk and James Johnson (whom I also love) for Paul George…. In a dynasty… Come on…. Doing a little happy dance. So again, thank you for pushing me off the ledge (or fence or toilet or whatever expression you like)

    • tony says:
      (link)

@Tim: it doesnt sound like a very good league, keeper/dynasty league and a guys dealing Paul George for Dirk? are there salaries involved? thats just ridiculous….. we have salaries in my league and you couldnt give me 3 players for Paul George right now/ever……unless he has some unrealistic extremely high price tag.

      • Tim says:
        (link)

@tony: you are as suprised as I was… I offered the trade hoping for a counter. It’s 20 team snake draft, h2h, 11 keeper (out of 16), regardless of draft position. It’s not an expert or even pro league, but there are some solid players. It is not a random league I picked from a list… I know many of the owners personally. It is my first year playing fantasy sports. I have very few players I fall in love with (I’m looking at you Henson and unibtow) and will trade anyone at their perceived peak value. How’s that for answering the question you didn’t ask?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:

JB what’s going on? What do you think about trading Klay Thompson and Larry Sanders for Paul George and picking up Blatche off the wire

      @CDS: get george….

      • Connor says:

Another Ross quote that can certainly work for basketball write-up is, “Pivot!” Whenever I’ve moved, someone ultimately yells that one out.

Anyway, would appreciate your thoughts on something. 12 team, 9 cat H2H league. Winning and losing weeks 5-4 and 4-5, bouncing around 7th-9th place so that’s not good. I have waaaaay too many guards.

PG DWill, Parker, Lawson, Knight, Nelson, RegJackson
SG/SF DeRozan, Jeff Green, Tyreke Evans, Waiters
PF/C Al Jefferson, Zack Randolph, Bogut, Tristan Thompson

Waiver wire has very little to offer. I’ve been trying to trade, but nothing has worked so far. Ideally I’d like to deal Jackson before Westbrook returns, and just because they’re killing the mojo in my team’s locker room, wouldn’t mind adding in Green, Waiters, or Thompson if anyone would take them from me. Williams and Evans seem to always be hurt as well. Any thoughts on who Jackson could command or any suggestions? Thank you!!!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@miles proudfoot: Hahahahahaha – very true. “I can’t believe that didn’t work… I mean you had a drawing!” Haha. Yeah Jackson is a tough piece to move. Henson? Dunno if that would work. I think adding Green would help a trade a lot, esp. after that huge game. Don’t think Waiters will help any, he’s probably droppable for a sexy big man on the wire the next time one comes up. So Green and Jackson forrrrr, Noah? Millsap? Eh, doubt you could get Millsap… Buy low on DMC while hurt? Doubt that works too, Kinda looks like you need blocks, so I’d go for buy low bigs with nice BLK numbers. Ohhhh, Josh Smith might work. Slowed down a little bit lately, and if you can handle bad %s, might help. Hope that helps!

      • miles proudfoot says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: haha yes the drawing. Thanks for the suggestions, will give them a go!

I offered Drummond and Tyson chandler for wade, oladipo, and rondo and the guy said he thinks he’ll do it. I’d still have Griffin, Davis, Noah, Thad, and Pierce as PF/C’s and could trade wade for one. What do you think?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@TR: Dude, love that trade. You’re getting so much upside and already have your bigs covered

      • TR says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: also gave up beal and Augustin for Batum because I love trading waiver pick ups and think Batum is less injury prone

And thinking of offering wade for d will as a big nets fan who remembers d will after cortisone and platelet shots last year and is inspired by his recent play

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@TR: Yeah that’s a sick trade. Glad Batum got through the MRI today with finding no issues. I agree, I want Williams, someone asked (I think a diff person) if they should trade Dwill for Wade and I said no, want Deron

Mate, whats good! So, going off yesterday’s convo, I’m still shopping my Afflalo and ZBo as a pack. Apart from the aformentioned Noah and Collison deal (now, I can possibly get Jeff Green instead of Colli), what do you think of those two being traded for Dragic and either Drummond or DLee? Of these three possible trade scenarios, which would you prefer?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Lasandro: Whoaaaa, def like the Dragic/Drummond or Lee deal much much better. I’d take Lee of the two bigs, if you got Dragic and Lee for AA and Zbo it’d be highway robbery. I’ll be cheerin for it to work!

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Nuts! Following two hours of conversation, I couldn’t swing a DLee dragic deal. But I got green and Noah for them too. Think you still may be a fan of that. Once Noah gets over his illness, I’ll be sporting him, Henson and AD. Green is on probation – I really don’t like him

  19. Shaft says:
    (link)

Trade Marshall and Tobias Harris for Jrue Holiday and faried or greg Monroe (whoever he chooses)

Is that a fair offer? I don’t really know how to assess Jrue’s value given the stress fracture. Are you concerned about it?

Other guy has IT2, Jennings and Lance. 8-cat h2h weekly league.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Shaft: I’m a little worried, but not as much as if it was a ligament. I think I’d indeed take Holiday and Monroe for Harris and Marshall.
