A shortened week 16 has concluded in our Razzball Elite league, and with a huge 8-1 win, Kap’s Team has taken over first place.  He sure Nashed them Potatoes!  For yours truly, a brutal loss that led to some ranting on the Yahoo smack board.  My gears were grinded!  My Potato was a stupid baked one and not garlic Nashed!  4 weeks remain in the regular season as teams jostle for the 6 playoff spots, including Slim sliding into 6th with a huge week.  Go get em Slim!  Keep the championship in the Razzball family!  Reactions from Slim and I below as we gear up for the week:

FAAB Remaining: $2  FAAB Moves this week: Shawne Williams ($3)

After an 8-1 win that temporarily catapults me into 6th place I should be feeling pretty good about making the playoffs right?  Well I’m not.  As absurd as it sounds Larry Sanders getting poked in the eye will end my season if I hold onto him.  Obviously he isn’t a $36 keeper at this point and can’t be sold as such but if I drop him then someone else will get him as a $1 keeper and that is entirely unacceptable.  What are my options?  1st option, concede.  Accept that I just don’t have enough to compete and use my remaining $5 of FAAB to attempt to find a keeper.  2nd option, trade Sanders.  I know that sounds impossible but it really shouldn’t be.  If I can package Larry plus a keeper to a non-playoff team I should be able to get 2 non-keepers back.  I tried this 2nd option with a few managers but I couldn’t coerce a trade offer that I felt would help in this coming week, at least help enough that I would be willing to lose a keeper for.  If I somehow make it through this coming week then I will probably try once again to trade Sanders plus a keeper for 2 non-keepers.  If I have a keeper your interested in and you have 2 non-keepers who are playing decent minutes then hit me up with an offer and maybe we can figure out a way to help each other out.

For me this coming week is the start of the playoffs.  I play the top seeded team and since the teams behind me have easy schedules remaining I can ill afford a loss.  Hell, I might not even be able to afford a 5-4 win.  I still have to try though and it looks now that the only way I can get better for this coming week is going to be through free agency.  There are two free agent pickups that have caught my eye.  The obvious one is Shawne Williams.  I doubt I’ll be able to get him with my limited funds but he’s worth throwing a dollar or 2 at just in case.  The one I really want though is Jordan Hamilton.  There’s plenty of risk due to the questionable status of Ty Lawson but if Lawson remains out next week then I should get the highest possible return for my money from Hamilton and his 4 game schedule which includes a day off on the heaviest schedule day, Wednesday.  It’s a risk I have no choice but to take.  I mean seriously, what’s my other option?  Concede?  Well my choice is just like that of Ted Cruz and the moral of Dr. Suess’ Green Eggs and Ham, I choose to disbelieve.

Surprisingly $3 was enough to get Shawne Williams.  I know his 10-day contract expired and I see 3 things could now occur.  1st, he doesn’t sign another 10-day contract and RKelly presumably gets his minutes back.  Since I own RKelly this isn’t necessarily a poor option for me.  2nd, he signs another contract with the Lakers and I get my 35 min per game, 3 game week.  This is another good option for me and the one I think happens.  3rd, he signs with another team.  He won’t get the minutes but he should still see a few and like the 1st option RKelly would presumably get his minutes back.  This is probably my best option.  Wish me luck this week.  I’m gonna need it.

7. Breaking Batum  (84-60-0)

FAAB Remaining: $82  FAAB Moves this week: n/a

10. Hoopus Alleyoopus  (75-66-3)

FAAB Remaining: $51  FAAB Moves this week: Hollis Thompson ($1), Quincy Acy ($1)

11. JB Gilpin – Razzball  (71-72-1)

FAAB Remaining: $1  FAAB Moves this week: n/a

In a season rife with disappointment, this was the most absurd loss of the year.  A loss by 6 threes when Trevor Ariza hit a franchise record against me, losses by 22 points, 15 boards, 2 steals and 6 blocks all in a shortened week against a banged up team was as unlucky as it gets.  Gustavo Ayon and Ronny Turiaf also put together season-best games, but hey, if Martyball was healthy, I would’ve gotten demolished – not discounting that.  Yet Martyball described it as a “beatdown”.  Don’t be surprised if you are replaced, homeslice!  I continue to aggressively shop pieces I’m not keeping and my $1 has a target as my last pickup.  I’m playing two of the bottom teams the next two weeks and if I finish above .500 and in the top 10, I’ll be fine with that.

12. Doug – tdbsports.com (68-75-1)

Daily posts are returning tomorrow as NBA action returns from the All-Star Break!

Hey JB, hope you had a great long weekend. Sorry, this isn’t a REL question. Some decisions to be made post All Star break off the wire. For PG’s, how would you rank ROS Augustin, PBev, BRoberts, Farmar, KMarshall. Also for 4/5’s, Henson, AJohnson, Taj. Thanks!

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@miles proudfoot: PGs I would go with Augustin, Beverley, Marshall, Roberts, Farmar. I’m confident DJ is a 30 minute guy from here on out and he’s by far been the best to date. Beverley has the most job security but lacks PG level assists. If you are looking more for steals and a few blocks instead then you could make a case for him over Augustin. The last 3 are a few tiers below the 1st 2. I don’t trust Farmar to comeback and stay healthy so that is why he’s last on my list. Since I believe that then Marshall should continue to get 25ish minutes. I have him ahead of Roberts due to the uncertainty of Jrue coming back and well, I just don’t think Roberts is all that good. Where as Marshall is a major asset to assists when he plays.

The bigs are going to be more difficult to rank since to me they are much closer in value than the PGs. I’m going with Henson 1st. With Sanders down for more than likely the rest of the year Henson should get all the minutes he can handle. He’s had injury issues and if you’re worried about that then Taj should give nearly identical numbers aside from a handful of boards. I like Amir to comeback strong down the stretch but with his ankle issues I need to see it to believe it.

@Slim: Thanks for the in-depth analysis! Really helped me out.

@miles proudfoot: Agree with Slim on Augustin, Marshall is close but they keep playing flavor of the week and D’Antoni has been so inconsistent all year with minutes allocation. Steve Blake has been about the only constant (when healthy). For bigs, I’m going ahead and taking Taj over Henson, if you told me Henson would stay healthy and play 25 mins a game rest of year I would easily take Henson, but just can’t be safe with that promise at all…

    Hey Slim,

Is that how we’re dealing with guys that were drafted but then later dropped, changing them to $1? I don’t know that I’ve ever seen anything discussed related to this for the REL, but I guess I was sort of under the impression that a guys auction value follows him around through being dropped the same way it does through being traded.

It’ll be good to get clarification on this from you (or JB I guess) before a disappointing stud gets dropped by someone. I know of one guy I would have picked up if I thought he was a $1 keeper already, luckily he wasn’t anyone too special.

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@A Hill O’ Beans: That’s kind of an assumption on my part. The only thing that was discussed was, “a player that is picked up off waivers will have a $1 keeper price tag.” We never differentiated between a waiver add that was drafted vs one that wasn’t. I agree though. I think if they were drafted they should have that as their keeper price tag. That would help me with Sanders though so I really shouldn’t get an opinion.

This really needs to be nailed down soon though with someone like McGee suddenly becoming available. He was drafted for $18. A $1 McGee vs an $18 McGee is a HUGE difference.

      • Slim

        Slim says:
        (link)

@Slim: There’s also room for ‘cheating’ with ALL pickups being kept for $1. For example, Kinsey is the only one with $100 FAAB left. He could drop Kyrie, put up the $100 FAAB and have a $1 Kyrie keeper forever without anyone able to stop him. Normally you can’t add the player you dropped but continual waivers work differently. Of course if he tried I’m sure JB could just circumvent it so we can maintain competitive stability. But still this isn’t “right”.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@A Hill O’ Beans:@Slim: Anyone dropped has their value wiped clean and becomes $1. I believe this is how most dynasties work. I mean, I’m not keeping Felton or Bayless and if I had more FAAB I would just drop them if their values stuck, but kinda hamstrings who you should drop. This is how I’ve done all dynasties in the past and how I meant the rules to sound. Even in continual waivers, I’m 99% sure the player has to clear the first round of waivers before the owner can pick him up again. So Kyrie would be open to all other teams the first week, and only picked up by the original team the second week if they out-FAABed for him. Sorry for the confusion!

    Slim,

Got offered Bledsoe and Monta for Kemba. Would you make that trade?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@BTF: It’s very close, if you have an open IR spot I think it’s an easy win, but I’m not a big stash Bledsoe guy. Depends on where you are in the standings too, if you’re barely in the playoff hunt or need to make up room in roto, having the 0 from Bledsoe is gonna hurt

  4. Slim

    Slim says:
    (link)

@BTF: Your comment is pending but I’ll answer it anyway. Ellis + Bledsoe for Kemba. So you have to make a drop. Assuming it’s someone you don’t care about and your primed for the playoffs without any issues then I like it. Monte vs Kemba is pretty close. We have 4 weeks till playoffs in most leagues. That should be enough time to get a feel for whether or not we will see an eventual Bledsoe return. The reports have been positive so far, I think he’ll be back eventually. Even if he isn’t and you have to make a move your really not losing much with Kemba vs Ellis being 6 of one and half a dozen of the other. You lose a 3PTM and gain a turnover vs gaining a half a steal and a ton of FG%.

Drop korver for kawhi or hold ? Thanks

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@AJ: I may be in the minority here but this feels need based to me. I’m going to call FG%, FT%, Points, Blocks, and Turnovers a wash. So it comes down to an extra 1.5-2.0 3PTM and 1 assist vs 0.5 a steal and 2 boards. If I needed 3s and felt good about my steals then I would not be dropping Korver for Kawhi. If I needed more steals then I would make the switch. I know this probably isn’t the most direct answer but I don’t think it’s such a simple swap.

Ouch, rough season for you guys! I stashed Bledsoe & Jru hopefully they come back week 18 when I play that shit talking punk. Kid went full retard using mom disses and racial epitaphs. I want to pound him 12-0 just to prove a point. I did what you said to do Jb and shamed him as a scumbag, theif, colluding with a bottom feeder and he went off! Haha Listen to this shit. He trades 3 nobody’s and Evan Turner (ok 4 nobody’s) for Blake Griffin,Beal,Conley. I veto the trade but only got 3 votes so.it goes thru. I accuse him of collusion cuz the other team is wayyyyy out of the running and the “villian” is in my division. So of course im pissed. Then he tells me that the guy offered the trade! Yah right! Bargnani,Tyson Chandler,Turner,Chalmers for those 3 players! I know he’s full of shit cuz he sent me over 10 offers in less than a month for Ibaka. All lowball by the way. So yeah..Sorry I needed to vent. Hope you and slim make a push to theplayoffs! Good luck ros

@matt: Eh, mostly just for me! And Pete… Pete had his whole team get hurt though. Mine just sucked haha. Damn yeah that doesn’t sound legit. I’m against vetoes but does sound like something is going on and I would be against that was well. Thanks man, good luck to your squads too!

    Hi,

What do you think of my derrick favors and trey burke for andre drummonds?
    or
my Evan tuner and trey burke for Dirk??
Do you think this is far or no

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Michael: Both are definitely fair. I like them both actually, I like the Dirk one better, think you’re giving up less for the better player

Hey mate, should I trade j green and w Chandler for Thad, then grab me Meeks off the wire?

    • Lasandro says:
      (link)

Offered same deal for Bosh and thoughts on doing the same thing for ariza? Essentially wanting an upgrade at the wing forward spot

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Lasandro: I wouldn’t do it for Ariza… Bosh and Thad I can get behind and then grab Meeks. Go get em!

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: As per my rant below, I am now in need of another PG haha. So if I were to do this trade above, the other party would be dropping Calderon. Whats your thoughts on me doing this – essentially Green and Wilson for Thad and Calderon – then switching Jrue for Meeks on the wire? Calderon is all about efficiency, but in an 8 teamer, hisvolume leaves a lot to be desired, dont you think? Other options on the wire are listed below. Appreciate your thoughts

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I could make the same offer for Taj Gibson, too. Rate him higher than Thad ROS?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Lasandro: I think that set of moves is the way to go. I’d take Calderon first, I know like you said the volume isn’t there but I think he will hit good 3s and boost the dimes a tad down the stretch. Nah rather Thad than Taj

  9. yokev_o says:

stash asik in case of trade, stash bledsoe in case of comeback, pick up james johnson, pick up mcbob, or pick up markieff pick 2 for ROS

@yokev_o: Markieff and JJ for me

  10. Lasandro says:

Can you believe this shit?? I just dropped S Blake for Jrue following reports he’d be back within a week. As it turns out, the Pels didnt release the part of the report where it said he’s still out 4-6 wks! So, back to the wire I go. Need good dimes and decent pts. Go back to S Blake? Or the newly dropped Augustin, J Nelson or B Roberts?

    • Lasandro says:
      (link)

On an unrelated note: you worried about this lack of playing time for Oladipo? Only 10min in first half today. And rubbish time in previous games. Whats going on exactly? He’s damn near droppable ATM. And now word is that Afflalo aint going nowhere, which may mean a bench role ROS for Vic?

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Lasandro: Well the trade deadline is tomorrow, so makes sense for the Magic to feature the old guys one last time. if Jameer stays, like him as your pickup. Gotta hold tough on Oladipo, I think he gets into the line-up no matter what pretty soon.

        • Lasandro says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: Ah, love the clarity! Thanks man. So, between Jose, DJ, Jameer, you’d still do Jose for assists and pts? that’s essentially who I’ll be choosing from as my PG pickup. And so we’re clear, Thad is def the best player ROS vs Green and Wilson yeah? That sixers team man.. just a straight up mess

          • Lasandro says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin: AND S Blake in the mix for PG pickup, of course

          • Lasandro says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin: Haha ma man Blake is outta there! Benchwarmer in GSW now. Damn shame

            • JB Gilpin

              JB Gilpin says:
              (link)

@Lasandro: Yeah I mean, I might hold until tomorrow to see what the trade deadline brings, but Thad over those two yes. And like Jose the most. And yeah, poor Blake, loses all his value…
