REL Power Rankings, 2013-14 Fantasy Basketball

Another week is in the books in our intense Razzball Elite league, with The Nature Boy still atop the standings, but a huge 8-1 week from Like A Josh has closed the gap to one game. The 8 wins came at the expense of our own Pete Nice, who’s suffering more injuries than Arnold in Terminator 2. Losing Jrue has him needing to go to secondary power! No surprises this week, a 7-2 win, 4 games over .500, but still 7.5 games out of 6th place. Since making the top 6 in a 20-teamer is such a daunting task I didn’t feel like I could settle, so I made my 3rd trade. This time I let go of Anthony Bennett, I think his future is fine but I couldn’t hold him if I wanted to win this year, and Tim Hardaway Jr. I’m not entirely happy about that one but it was the only way. I added Amir Johnson and DeMarre Carroll. My team is starting to finally come together.

Guards: Lillard, Jackson, Jordan Crawford, Burks, and Augustin. I may one day have issues with Jackson and Crawford losing playing time but I’m hoping for more from Burks and Augustin so it’s a push and I think my greatest strength.

Wings: Ross, Brewer, Tucker, Carroll. A little shallow here but this is where I get most of my steals from, a weakness. Not a lot in the way of keepers either but plenty of minutes and solid job security is all I’m looking for.

Bigs: Duncan, Hibbert, Amir Johnson, Sanders, Adams: Some expensive guys not living up to their price tags but it’s really not an issue since there’s so much depth. Blocks are big regardless but if things ever come together here then blocks and boards would be unbeatable. Sanders and Adams are the only guys of my top 14 who didn’t play around 30 or more minutes last week.

The Rest: Jeremy Evans, Rashard Lewis, Elliot Williams: Still looking to improve here but it’s not something I need right now. I’ve wanted to add Lewis for a while. How a 34 year old is maintaining 1.1 steals in only 19 minutes is beyond me but through 35 games I can no longer call it a fluke. He gives what I need so I’ll take it. I gave up on Ajinca because I was unimpressed with what I was seeing. Apparently so are the Pelicans as Ajinca was benched and then stripped of his starting role. Why Elliot Williams? Only 1 reason. I thought he’s looked good with the small opportunity he’s been given. He could get DNPs just as easily as gain a larger role. That’s my kind of $1 gamble.

Ugh, a tough 4-5 loss last week ended my 4 game winning streak. A loss by 24 Pts/39 Rebs/20 Asts/3 Stls isn’t awful, as luckily my %s saved me. No bad luck or me whining this week though, Cigar Smoking Monkey has a great team. My guys played well and I like my squad, just was against an even better one last week.

No moves this week with my limited budget as everyone on my team is playing except Archie Goodwin. I still like the 19-year-old as Leandro Barbosa and Gerald Green are obviously not long-term solutions and Dragic will be in the last year of his deal next year. There’s a shot Goodwin could start at some point, and he’s worth hangin’ on to. I’m happy to be playing Breaking Batum this week, as I get to have my best player in Aldridge face his former owner. I’m thinking that fuels him! Obviously this fantasy league is more important to him… BBatum got Wilson Chandler back off his injury last night, but will be without Ryan Anderson and Mario Chalmers (likely at least a game) while I am, knock on wood, healthy across the board. Hoping my depth and health can get me a big win and prep me for a really rough matchup next week against Slim.
