Well… Larry Sanders hasn’t had the best few weeks…  The Colonel held his injuries from the field surgeon just long enough to keep hope alive in his troops, but had to undergo the knife to repair his thumb and will be out 6 weeks.  Was it from a punch, the champagne bottle, or just getting too close in the delivery room?  No one will ever know.  Talk about easily the biggest fantasy bust this season thus far.  With no IR spot, drop this dude.  Zaza Pachulia is now a big pickup for anyone needing big man stats.  Za/Za is such a good Scrabble play!  Definitely a go-to for 60+ point moves on the triples.  If you have the cajones to challenge me in Words With Friends, hit me up (user ID: Jbronze).  But if I smell any Word Gen, I’ma publicly smite you!  Oh yeah, hoops, John Henson gets a big boost as well looking at consistent run.  But beware Henson’s terrible FT shooting and prepare thusly.  Speaking of thusly, herebe the NBA beings-all I saw last fortnight (wait, doesn’t that mean like 20 days ago?  Eh you know what I meant):

Derrick Rose – Tweaked the hammy last night.  The Rose comeback isn’t quite going as expected.  Luckily the Bulls are off until Friday and he could avoid missing any time.  Maybe that weird neck brace that just looked like electrical tape can go on the back of his leg too.

Wilson Chandler – Stupid, stupid, stupid.  We need you Wilson.  WILSON!!!!  Maybe I should just let you float away.  All signs pointed to him playing last night, but it’s looking like it’ll be Wednesday.  Dr. Spalding would not clear him for action quite yet.

Steve Nash – Going to miss at least two weeks with some sort of nerve root damage or something.  I think it’s called being old.  Steve Blake will get good run to continue his hot start.

Omri Casspi - I love him, as you all know.  Finished out the first half over Omer Asik for 2/4/3/1/1 in his first 14 minutes of action, with the Rockets +17 while he was on the floor to Asik’s +1.  Ended with a 5/6/4/1/1 line, and a plus 16 while no other Rocket had a double-digit + on the game.  They’re going to figure this out and start running Casspi.  But then they started Terrence Jones to start the third.  Very odd.  Then Jones, after playing 16 minutes all year got over 32 off the bench!  Apparently they liked him for the Rudy Gay defensive matchup, and Gay was awful (below).  Also, no Francisco Garcia in this one.  Casspi has been dealing with a sore ankle that may have limited a few extra minutes in this 2OT game, but it’s worth noting Chandler Parsons is dealing with some back spasms and played 50 minutes last night.  I could see Casspi having a nice run coming up with @ PHI @ NYK (who have been atrocious) DEN BOS as the next four.  Easily all 4 could be blowouts and get bench minutes going and Parsons some rest.  Garcia will get good minutes too.  Not buying Jones.

Gordon Hayward - Played possessed last night.  I liked him heading into the year, but only have him on one team.  That makes me a sad panda.  He did fade a little in the second half, but 22/3/2/1/2 line despite 7 TOs.  41 minutes, and he looked a lot better than that line would indicate.  Me likey.

Jonas Valanciunas – 10/13/3 in 30 minutes but fouled out.  Still not quite Luminescent, but he’s been fine.  Shimmering-ish.

Kawhi Leonard - Back in the starting lineup as I had expected – only coming off the bench against the Knicks because of matchups.  13/8/3/2/0 isn’t huge, but I bet when you look up at the end of the season, it’ll be quality ya-yo.

Michael Carter-Williams - Ugh.  2-11 but rainbow line!  8/2/4/3/3, and only 2 TOs to offset the poor shooting.  As long as MCW doesn’t make friends with Donovan McNabb, he could walk on water in Philly.

Spencer Hawes - Every big man that is against me in the REL is having huge rebounding nights.  17/13/3 with 2 swats.  Nerlens who?

Jeff Ayres - 25 minutes going 6/6/2.  I probably should throw in he’s on the Spurs since I wasn’t sure.  Sure he was in a Spurs uniform, but if some random big comes off the bench that I don’t know who it is, I always think it’s Matt Bonner going incognito, dying his ginger hair.  Ugh, incognito is not a good vocab word to use in sports there days, is it?

Toronto Ball Hogs – Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan both had 18 shots at the end of the third quarter.  Someone didn’t teach them to share.  And you wonder why LL isn’t getting the shots…  Gay ended up going 11-37 and setting the Raptors franchise record in shots taken.  Not surprisingly, he did NOT set the record for points scored…

Damian Lillard - Made two shots less than 3 minutes into the game last night, after going 1-15 on Saturday.  Just thought that was funny.

Andrew Bynum - Started?!  What the H David Blaine!?  21 minutes 3-5 (5-5 FT) 11/6/2 and 2 blocks.  You’ll take that if he could play every game…

Tristan Thompson - Third straight dub-dub going 14/13.  Ready for something ridiculous?  He has 1, repeat, one assist ON THE SEASON!  For a guy averaging over 38 minutes a game.  Tough to do.  Has a 1:16 Ast:TO ratio hahaha.

Trey Burke - Got an update from the hand specialist that he needs a manicure.  Oh, and that he can resume dribbling and 1-on-1 activities.  Still a few weeks out.  Jazz can wait until he’s for sure 100%, then run the bejesus outta him.

Danny Green – Second straight good game, shooting 6-9 (5-7 3PTM) 18/7/3/1/1.  Welcome back to fantasy relevance!  Eh, well it was early so hopefully you held strong even though he was a popular drop.  Worth being sure he’s not on your wire.

Corey Brewer - I like him more every game.  The stat line didn’t show it last night, but played with huge intensity, ran the floor, and kept a smile on his face despite a lot of big contact no calls.  In a day and age where everyone complains every call, Brewer is my G.  Oh wait, fantasy, that’s right…

Kevin Martin - K-Mart has been anything but Chapter 11, taking a whopping 22 shots, making 9.  I watched this game and that was astounding to me, I coulda sworn Love took more, but he had 19.  Martin hit 4 threes, 8-8 FT for another 30-point game.  Yeah, I sold him short in the rankings…  Although I do love the irony that in home games K-Mart plays in Target Center!

Kevin Love - Dude, the Timberwolves are becoming my favorite team.  Bandwagon?  Definitely, sorta, a little.  But Love missed the putback layup at the last second you’ve probably seen the highlight of by now, and he just smiled and pointed to his bench and said “my bad!”  It was the same reaction your friend would give after they farted in a full car on a cold wintery day.  This team is so fun.

Ricky Rubio - Still can’t provide any scoring, but hit a 3 and shot 100% from deep!  1-1 counts!  5/1/10 and 2 steals.  Not huge, but love the dollar worth-a dimes.

Nikola Pekovic – 11-15 and just abused DeAndre in the post.  25/10 game.  Pek in ya step!

Jamal Crawford – Was the main reason the Clips won this game.  Obviously there’s no direct causation, but he hit a 60-footer buzzer beater to close the third and they won by 2.  He was ballin’.  18/2/6, the 6 dimes a season-high on the young year.  J.J. Redick kinda disappeared and JC was Superstar.

DeAndre Jordan – Hack a ‘Dre made this a close game.  I think he airballed one… 0-6 FT.  Yikes, yeah he’s gonna have to get pulled at times in the 4:00-2:00 left range.

Chris Paul - Double digit assists in all 8 games to begin the year.  He’s going after Rajon Rondo‘s 34 straight.

Epic Jeremy Lin vs. Patrick Beverley Celebrity Death Match - That would be a good one!  Lin went 10-17 in 46 minutes in the double-OT extravaganza for 31/5/0 (yes, zero assists!)/2/1.  PBev an atrocious 0-5 1/4/0 (both PGs had zero dimes!)/0/0 line.  Now PBev did get into some foul trouble, but it was unreal James Harden got 10 assists and both points had none.  Still think Lin and PBev are valuable and about even.  Sorry Slim, I hope you’re mentally OK after this PBev line…

Dwight Howard - If only he could hit free throws, he could join Nikola Vucevic as the only guys with Goromotaros!  Still just Vuc with a 20/20 as Dwight went 4-12 from the stripe and stuck at 18/24.  FT% punting teams with Dwight and DeAndre punted like Andy Lee last night.

Lance Stephenson - Been buying it since game 2.  Triple double alert!  What the hey?!  Didn’t see that coming.  13/11/12.  Maybe a tad of a sell high with George Hill still getting back into action, but this is legit from Lance.

Roy Hibbert - 3 Pts 5 Blks.  Hilarious.

Memphis Grizzlies - I’m not going to get into individual names, because everyone is playing atrocious.  This team is an utter mess right now.  I’m scared if I own any Grizzly right now.

Paul Millsap - Of course he would cool off the day after rocking me in the REL last week.  It’s like Fantasy Football luck…

Cartier Martin - Worth a look in deep leagues and turning out to be a solid REL FAAB buy.  Definitely a ThrAGNOF streamer in all leagues.  16/3/2. shooting 5-7 and going 3-4 from downtown.

Charlie Day – Leading your Charlotte Bobcats in scoring… Josh McRoberts!  Man, a lot of weird things went down on 11-11.  19/6/7 for a really solid line, but he’s anything but consistent.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist - Very respectable 16/6/2 line on 6-11 shooting and 4-5 FT.  Steals and blocks will trickle in.  Still feeling good about being bullish on him.

Gerald Henderson - Not feeling as good on this one… 3-8 while 6, repeat SIX other Bobcats took double-digit shots.  Very odd.

Olynyk of Nazareth - Got the start.  16/7/5/1/1.  That’s really good for you Olynyk disciples.  I just saw him look god (sorry) awful a few games back.  But you can definitely cut poor ol’ Vitor Faverani in 12 teamers or under with only 15 minutes of 4/5 but did swat 2.   I honestly don’t want either, Brad Stevens could flip flop em again.

Jordan Crawford - Ascending all year to the pantheon of a 16/5/10 line last night.  Worth a slight gamble in deeper leagues if he’s on the wire.

Avery Bradley - The same, shooting 10-15 last night.  Almost everyone was on for the C’s.

Andrew Nicholson - As I foresaw, fading into the ether… Or Ethier… But you have to play Fantasy Baseball to get that one…

Jimmy Butler - Mannnnnnnnn… After the first game my high rank of a fellow JB was looking great.  Then Godzilla let me down.  If it’s possible I’d hold, I think he can go on multi-cat runs ala Danny Green’s return to form.

Denver Nuggets - I watched this game.  The Nuggets looked awful, but played an awful-er team.  Ty Lawson is awesome and J.J. Hickson is the big you want with JaVale McGee going down.  Wilson Chandler might shoot a million shots a night when he’s at full strength.

Alec Burks - Still looked good out there at the eye level despite 2-9 7/5/1.  Not a guy you need to hold onto by any means in 12 teamers or under, but deeper shouldn’t panic.

Brandon Jennings - 24 shots in a very Jennings-ish 28/4/5 line with 3 steals.  Stay away from the dentist!

Josh Smith - This Pistons offense is going to have someone left out every night, and it was J Smoove this time.  Not worried.

Andre Drummond - Ok Drummond fans, let me have it!  I got the better end last game!  And therein lies the inconsistency.  16/16/2/2/1 is monstrous.  He was against Robin Lopez though.  And Lopez blows.  7 of those boards were offensive (nice call El Burro, I think that was your theory on the bad Jennings misses!) but still think this is a better Drummond line than most.

Next Game: None tonight, but then ramping up for WAS @ SAS on Wednesday.  Looking to see if Danny Green can stay hot and oping for big games from Wall and Kawhi.  Good luck in the short slate of games tonight!

    Hey man
I need waiver wire help. I dropped steve nash for alec burks or should I of picked up Jordan Farmar instead? I am in a 9 cat roto and I am filled with injuries right now but I am managing to somehow stay competitive.

waiver wires include: Marcus Thorton, Dalembert, Ramon Session, tony allen, Nick Young, PJ Tucker

Ramon Sessions actually intrests me too, but I would like to know what you think

    My lineup

PG: Ty Lawson / Mike Conley / Trey Burke / Alec Burks
SG-SF: Joe Johnson / Evan Turner / Demar Derozan / Gordon Hayward
    Sf-PF: Tobias harris
    PF: kenneth Faried
PF-C: Derrick Favors / Zach Randolf / Al Jefferson /
    C: Andrew Bogut

@Michael Pan: I still like Burks the most for ya, Sessions is really close. I just think Burks has bigger upside, Sessions you know about what you’ll get.

  2. Which big do you trust on your bench more- Bynum, JC Olynyk or Steven Adams?

    • JB Gilpin

@vultures: I don’t quite understand what you’re asking, as in which would I want on my bench? I think still Bynum. I’d rank them Bynum Olynyk Adams. Don’t trust Celtics giving a consistent rotations or the Thunder to give Adams PT. Bynum should be 20+ minutes every game now, except back-to-backs

Drop bargs for zaza? In a 10 team 8 cat h2h
Also would you expect zaza to be a better trade chip?

Henson is a wait and see type guy? Zaza is the better add?
    Thanks dude

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Zandy: Nah I think I’d hold Bargs, I think with the scoring and some upside games is sexier trade bait too. I think I’d narrowly take Henson over Zaza ROS, but would play Zaza right now first.

@JB Gilpin: thanks JB! youre the man
my squad is coming along very nicely

Are you rushing to grab MKG and dropping bargs and watch and learn this week is bargs can actually become consistent?

@Zandy: Thanks man! I probably would hold Bargs for the upside in this stretch, but ROS I think MKG has better overall line.

I’m sorry to ask a football question but I have the choice to trade Sproles or Pierre. Which one should I keep for myself?

          (link)

@Frank White: I’m no JB or Slim, but I don’t think I’d do that one. I love Kobe, but he’s old and coming off of a serious injury. D’Antoni will run him into the ground like he did with Amare and I think the risk of re-injury is very high. Conley is really underrated and is by far the best player in that deal, IMHO.

        • JB Gilpin

I had some tough breaks yesterday. I think Beverley and Nicholson were both hurt by foul trouble and couldn’t find their groove. Nicholson isn’t a 12 teamer guy but I think they both will be fine. My Alec Burks prediction won’t come true. I tried… Caveat time, I think this is going to be his worst month and I think he’s going to be better when Burke returns and Richard Jeffersons contract gets traded. Better days are a comin. “Better Days. Better Days. Heyyy! Got me thinkin bout better days” -2Pac

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Slim: No worries about my mental well being. A nice thing about Beverley and Burks is that if you don’t like them you can drop them. It’s not like you paid much for them on draft day. They just got cheaper in a trade too. Yeah! A major reason I like Beverley so much is his attitude. I think he comes back Wednesday with a vengeance, assuming he isn’t having issues with his ribs. Have fun MCW.

@Slim: Slim – what do you think about milwaukee’s situation? Would you Drop bargs for zaza or is henson the better add? In a 10 team 8 cat weekly h2h… Are either of them strong trade chips to team with Zbo and shop for a more multi cat big?

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:

    whats up JB?

    couple questions….

am I crazy to still really like Asik?

I just think he could be a REB machine w/ any sort of consistent minutes.Y’think they trade him and will that actually help?

also….last yr I went all in on M. Gasol and drafted/traded for him in all of my leagues and it worked out great obviously. Is he a good buy low candidate at this point?

and one more question….injuries aside, isnt Kyle Lowry being wasted in Toronto?

I just feel like if he played on a truly bad team or even if he had a clearly defined role on a decent team he could be providing more consistent stats like he has before.

    thnks.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@guidedbyvoices: Haha I think your Asik love is guided by voices! Just kidding, yeah I agree he’s a boards monster and a change of scenery can only help without Dwight gobbling up boards next to him. I’d be hesitant with Gasol, the Grizzlies look awful. Lionel Hollins has to be laughing at how bad theyre looking after getting the can. Wasted… Sorta because DeRozan and Gay are ball hogs. If Gay gets traded like he’s been floated around, Lowry gets a big boost

9 Cat Roto on a weekly basis. I’m at the bottom of FG, turns and blocks. Well, since Al Jeff is back, I’m hoping he can address 2 of my 3 problems. But since he has a bum ankle, I’m thinking of sending him off together with either Ilyasova or Tobias Harris for Lillard. Once I got Lillard, I’m sending Westbrook or Wade off to a shot blocker. Am I giving up too soon for Westbrook? I don’t think his % and turns will go down. Your thoughts?

    my other options will be:
    b. Wade + Al Jeff for Bosh + Lillard
    c. Westbrook + Al Jeff for Bosh + Lillard
    d. Westbrook/Wade for Lillard

    Thanks a lot.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@John: Haha yea tough for them to get much worse for RW! I like that series of moves, just Lillard may not help too much either. I’d do the Jefferson moves if you can do it. And then see if you can package Westbrook for Anthony Davis, I’d really try to get the elite shot blocker.

I’ve been hoping Wilson Chandler would be available and now he is, but I have a bunch of questionable guys I don’t really want to drop. Would you drop any of these for him or for Bargs?

PBev (just kidding!!), Blake, Butler (originally thought I did well trading Drummond for him!), D Green (surely not, but time and output is inconsistent)? Oladipo and Jonas I’m definitely keeping the faith with.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Prodders: As tough as it is, I like Chandler more than Butler. I think I had Chandler ranked higher heading into the year, so I’m still big on him. Then would lose Blake for Bargs unless you need the dimes.

      • Prodders says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I’m going to punt assists because I have RW at PG and not many good assist guys elsewhere. Almost all my other cats are strong. I dropped Blake for Chandler. Not sure about Bargs… bad fg%, some 3s, weak rebounder, some scoring, I don’t really get it.

Going to give butler some more time, so much fantasy excellence being held back by lack of involvement!

        Thanks again.

@Prodders: I agree Bargs is weak, but his extended minutes now will make up for what he lacks per 48 wise. They have no one else to play center with Amare a shell of his former self. I’m hoping for Butler too! Stupid Deng throwing up 1-9s

  15. JB –

Solid round-up. I like that you watch a shit ton of NBA – thought I was alone in this weird imaginary world. Wife still hates me from about 4pm PST- 10 pm PST, Mon-Fri, but I digress.

BTW, watched the entire Rockets v. Raptors game last night. My observations: McHale is finally figuring out the Asik is better getting his 20-24 minutes/game off the pine. Offense is much smoother with Casspi (or Terrence Jones or Garcia) stretching the floor. However, Jones definitely does not stretch it that much and his offensive game isn’t as polished as Casspi’s. That said, he could have an MKG type impact on this squad. I’d watch McHale’s rotation carefully to see if it was an aberration or a sign of things to come. Either way, there will be times with Asik and Dwight play together given certain match-ups, but I just don’t like the way Dwight plays with him on the court. Prefer D12 as the sole post option; think it gives him more room to roam and creates more spacing… Lin also looks far better this year; he may have stolen back the PG slot from Beverly, who looked awful.

Hearing rumors that the Dick Duster (aka – no D in Antoni) may give Jordan Hill the start at the 4 in Laker land tonight against The Brow and the Pelllllicans- please channel your inner Tony Montana while saying that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCIHEUfMpIc… I’ve been one huge critic of ‘Antoni’s rotation, dude really has no clue. However, I’m championing Jordan Hill’s cause here and think he’s one to watch if he ever gets minutes, which its sounding like he might starting tonight– could be a 14/9/1/1 type with 30+ minutes. I mean Gaysol and Kaman are no spring chickens and Hill, who has a little of Faried’s game, might be an interesting snag, or at least someone to “watch”.

Drummond – keep banging those boards, and just do you, big fella! Pay no mind to those razzball critics.

CJ McCollum – anyone in Portland area out there could provide an update, I would welcome that. Thinking I want to snag him (14 team league bench) as soon as he starts running and practicing. Deep League Alert – he’s owned in like 1% of Yahoo Leagues and I could see him getting like 6th Man type minutes as soon as he’s ready. Was ridiculous in 5 summer league games, to the tune of : 21.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.9 3pm and 3.6 turnovers per game. Yes – summer league — but he’ll be slotted behind a few guys that are very injury prone (Mo Williams, Wesley Matthews, Batum, etc.), so he could get minutes. At a minimum, I could see him being > Jeremy Lamb, in a similar role, with slightly more playing time potential…

@EL BURRO + DRUMMOND = AMIGOS: Haha, love watching the hoops and it’s my job! Literally… So yeah I agree, Casspi makes them look better, why I cited the +/- numbers and I saw they liked Jones to D up Gay. I’m with you, Casspi is nice and will get more run. After Davis torched the Lakers, I totally buy the Hill start if that’s true. They need someone athletic on the Brow. You and Drummond, sitting in a tree… I like McCollum’s upside, it’s just so crowded in the backcourt. Batum and MoWil get hurt, Matthews actually before the ankle sprain last year was really consistent with being on the court. So I’m not as excited for him, but that’s just me. In 14 teamers though, definitely worth a stash.

      • @JB Gilpin:

Awesome job you have there. Getting paid to watch sports is where its at! Double mazels.

+/- is sometimes deceiving, especially for bench guys, but generally a good barometer.

Jordan Hill – I think he is worth a speculative “add” given bench sizes in 14 team leagues or at least a serious “watch” in 12 teamers, in case the LA based rumors are true. I think I would for sure go ahead and add him in 16-20 team leagues… Gasol’s play cant’ get much worse and Lakers are lucky to have 3 wins already, some front line change is needed.

Drummond – still think its 12/12/2 once Monroe comes back to earth a bit. I think last night is the norm, moreso than the outlier.

McCollum- I’m not arguing the Matthews PT, nor Batum, cause Portland loves playing their starters huge minutes — my point is that Mo is often injured and once CJ is up to speed, he’s gonna be hard to keep off the court. Kid can ball; just my opinion after watching him both in college, and summer league ball. He’s pretty polished. Not Lillard polished, but reminds me of a left handed version of Steph Curry… hi upside could be Rookie of the Year. Most people will think I’m crazy for that statement, but aside from Oladipo (and apologies to MCW), this is my favorite rookie guard. From what I’ve tracked down… http://news.rotowire.com/CJ-McCollum-googid184863-spnba.htm
He’s shed his walking boot and is meeting with docs to gain clearance to start running, which translated probably still means 2-4 weeks. Im just hoping to get some inside knowledge from other sources. Watch this dude.

@EL BURRO + DRUMMOND = AMIGOS: Interesting, will keep him on the radar! I don’t think he could push for ROY just because all the time missed and he’d have to hit the ground running. But possible! And if the Blazers break up that team at the deadline if they’re terrible again, CJ could indeed be a big 2nd half guy

          • @JB Gilpin:

Yes, i think its 2nd half impact as well. He is coming off a broken left foot, which could be slow to heal – never know. That’s the risk associated with it – plus he’s not the quickest of foot to begin with, so lateral movement and defense liability from an undersized 2 (or normal sized PG) will be the playing time rub. Like I said, I envision more of a 6th man type scenario but need to really see how the foot responds once he is back practicing again… Agreed on ROY given he will likely miss first 6-8 weeks of season, but he’s got potential and is definitely someone you want to watch…

All comments welcome. Got offered Teague and Vucevic with a 12th rounder next seasons draft for Dragic and Pekovic and a 6th rounder next year.

@Pavel: Green and Waiters for KMart? Green’s run is about over. Jackson would be a guy to trade too, I don’t think he gets as much run as others are seeing with RW back.

@John: I’d take the top end of that, but just under 2.5 I buy. 3 last year, it was his rookie season and he played huge minutes, 2.3-2.4 sound about right

    Hey there,

12 team, 9 cat, pretty even across all cats. I’m thinking of unloading Varejao if it’s worth it…Markeif, Pachulia, Henson, MKG, A Burkes, Hickson, Wilson Chandler, Knight are available, thoughts?

    Thanks!

@miles proud foot: I might hold Varejao for the next two with no Bynum minutes as he’s out with a family matter. I think Chandler has the biggest upside, actually I may say go ahead and grab him tomorrow in case he goes off, or else it’ll be a race to the wire

  24. mike says:

I was thinking about offering a trade of DeAndre Jordan and Dwyane Wade for Russell Westbrook and Spencer Hawes. I’m expecting Hawes to cool off a bit, and my potential trademate’s team is more Reb/Blk (punt FT%) and my team is more 3/Ast. Obviously it’s probably not going to happen until/unless Hawes gets back to normal a bit so I wouldn’t propose it til then, but what do you think about it value wise?

    • mike says:
      (link)

      @mike:

PS trademate already has Dwight Howard so he probably wouldn’t sweat Jordan’s FT% too much. It’s 9 cat H2H, 144 players owned total.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@mike: I like that deal for sure, still think Westbrook is best player in it. I don’t think it’d hurt to offer now, definitely put a note in saying he’ll lock up boards/blocks with that combo

      • Slim

        Slim says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: If I could please make a recommendation about trading. Do NOT tell him how the trade will help him. I think most people will see that as you trying to be manipulative. I think a better option would be to say something like, “I know I shouldn’t be paying so much for Hawes but I don’t think he regresses too much”. I know, in actuality that is far more manipulative but it’s not as overt.

If you read this JB, I’m interested in your take on it. This isn’t really about fantasy bball as much as it’s about psychology. I know in razzball baseball there is a post every year on ‘how to trade’. Its a really good post, one of my favorites.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Slim: Well, in fairness, the above example on Hawes is equally as manipulative and overt but maybe that’s because I’ve played fantasy too long. I think a big factor is your relationship with the other party. As in – Slim and I e-mail about trades sometimes and we can have a peer-to-peer dialog, but if it’s someone you rarely talk to/a stranger, I agree no note about how it helps/value assessment will help and may detract. How people you don’t know come across in short blubs changes on personal perception.

        • mike says:
          (link)

          @Slim:

I don’t know if you’re talking about talking to your trade partner or talking to people who ask for advice about trades, but if it’s the former then I think it’s more about explaining how the trade will help both teams. I mean obviously I think the trade will help my team which is why I’m proposing it. But I think you’re right that at they very least you want frame it as a win-win, because you don’t want to come off as saying “see what a swell guy I am, I’m doing this to make your team better” because that sounds like you’re trying to con them.

          • Slim

            Slim says:
            (link)

@mike: Yeah you got. I was referring to conversations with your trade partner. Trying to avoid telling them your helping them. It doesn’t tend to come off that way to the guy your trying to trade with.

  25. Jon says:

if Jason Smith, John Henson, JJ Hickson, Robin Lopez are the better bigs left on the waiver, who would you pickup?

    • Li says:
      (link)

      @Jon:
Well, short term I would go with Hickson as McGee is going to be on the shelf for some time. He is a double double machine with blocks as well when he gets starters minutes (see last year in Portland) His first game starting tonight he had 12 and 9 and a few blocks I believe.
Jason Smith would be my next choice as he has job security and has been avg. 12 pts/4+ Reb. and over 1 block per game. I’d go Hickson. If he impresses during this stint, I wouldn’t be surprised if his minutes increased even when all are healthy….

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Jon: I agree, I like Hickson. Smith and Henson are close as 2nd

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@Jon: I hate to throw a wrench in your plan but I’ve got Lopez as the top guy on this list. There r only 2 games Lopez has seen less than 32 minutes and it was due to foul trouble. The other 3 have played over 30 minutes only once each. Jason Smith will compete with the Davis and Anderson duo for playing time unless one of them plays SF which I don’t think they do. Henson will lose most of his minutes when Ilyasova returns. Hickson has the smallest competition but he’s only a 3 category player. FG%, Pts, Reb. I would take the hit to boards to add some blocks and improved FT% from Lopez. Temporarily I think they are all about even. Long term I think RoLo wins pretty easily. Caveat… If all 4 were guaranteed 30 minutes per night then I take the Muppet Man.

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Slim: I’m just not a Lopez guy. Minutes don’t equate to production, and you can argue Lopez is a 1 cat guy since he doesn’t take many shots and is only at 46% FG shooting, is a poor rebounder, doesn’t score much, but gives you blocks. And even those aren’t that good. Hickson in his first start 14/9 and a block bests all but 1 Lopez start. Smith gets some benefit from A – Anderson said he’s gonna be playing hurt, so he won’t be at huge minutes and B – Stiemsma just got hurt and could be serious. Henson has upside, sure Ilyasova coming back won’t help but Zaza has an iffy foot that could cut into his value/minutes/PT too. Tough to see the Bucks anywhere near contention in the 2nd half, they’ve gotta start running Henson big then.

        • Slim

          Slim says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: I can’t disagree with a single word of that. I think Lopez will be closer to the player he was last year than so far this year. I do tend to focus a lot on minutes played. I guess I see it as consistent minutes equate to consistent stats. To be fair I like all 4 of those players as a final big on a roster.

I didn’t know about Stiemsma. You kind of needed his blocks in the REL.

I agree 100% with Milwaukee 2nd half. Spoiler Alert: Antetokounmpo tomorrow.

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@Slim: Agree, all 4 are decent options. You’re telling me about Stiemsma. Sadly, he was fairly important to my team. Douglas as a 3 and assist a game too hurts. Interesting, ya the Greek got a lot of run last night. But didn’t do much noteworthy for me, TOed a lot which you’d expect. Can’t wait to see him in action when I get a Bucks game

              Slim says:
              (link)

@JB Gilpin: He’s so young, I’m not recommending him… yet. I think half a season of practice could turn him into a fantasy relevant player.

  26. Zar says:

I just got offered Brandon Jennings for Roy Hibbert. Yahoo seems to believe this will be a good trade for me, but I’m not too high on Brandon Jennings.

The trade will leave me with Jason Smith, Zach randolph, LL, Henson, Favors as my Centers and give me Rubio, Lilliard, Curry, and Beverly as my PGs. Now that I look at it, I kinda want to jump on the trade >< Jordan Hill and Zaza are out there if I want to get a new center.

I guess I could also try to get his Lebron for Rubio/Hibbert…..but that might be a long shot.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Zar: Yeah I mean, I like the LeBron trade more, but agree it’s a long shot. Looking at your roster, I do the deal, Hibbert is only giving you blocks and the upside of Henson with LL and Favors giving you blocks should keep you completive there. I’m not exactly a huge Jennings guy either, but I’d do it
