Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

If you recall back to last week, I remember talking up Jon Leuer as an interesting deep league play.   Loved the out-of-position threes, the boarding, the all-around production.  I said I would probably go after him in REL, and then Slim tells me he’s probably not bidding on him this week.  So I figure, I can dangle a few bucks and if someone beats me to him so be it.  But it shouldn’t have been you Slim!!  He Leuered me in with scoffing and brush-off ness.  Slim, you want to repay me for this horrific slight of hand?  Trade him to me!  I guess I should talk more about Leuer than rant…  Just over 27 minutes last night for 16/12 with a three on 7-14 shooting.  This now marks five straight games of 23:30+ minutes, averaging nearly a double-double a game on top of almost a three a game with a few blocks.  He’s not going to turn into some superstar, but he’s a great stretch the court center, which fits Mike Conley trying to drive and dish.  Sorry Kosta Koufos, but your outside shots are labradoodles!  That term needs to be added to the glossary…  I see Leuer continuing his PT as a double double threat while Marc Gasol is out, with a handful of threes, steals and blocks to help out deeper leagues.  Here’s what else I saw last night in fantasy hoops:

Quincy Pondexter – Nooooo, the Lone Ranger?!  Just like studio exec’s expected returns for that movie, they only got 20% which is all Quincy P is gonna be able to play this year.  That was a convulted stretch, no?  Stress fracture in his foot that looks like it’ll cost him the rest of the season, and we wish him all the best.

Jerryd Bayless – 11/1/4/1/1 in 29 minutes as the starting 2 with Tony Allen out with a bad hip.  The Grizzlies are dropping like flies.  I like JB to get out of his shooting rut (can’t get much worse than 0-11!) and they have to play him.   I included him in my Leuer offer Slim!

Kosta Koufos – Racked up the stats, 7/11 with three blocks, but shot only 3-10 and didn’t look comfy offensively.  Plus only got 26:16 to Leuer’s 27:18.   Kosta is still gonna start, but he had 30 minutes plus the six games prior, so a little cutback could be in order.

Andrew Nicholson – Nice game for St. Nich, going 19/11 with two threes and 4 blocks.  Now, the Grizzlies big men just lobbed up some real softies up there, and I’m still not the biggest Nicholson fan with his funky shot.  I mean, he’s no Michael Kidd-Gilchrist or Shawn Marion, but I don’t think he goes 8-12 that often.  Plus Nikola Vucevic is close to back and Tobias Harris isn’t much further off.  Not buying any Magic Fs.

Glen Davis – Could rival Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer as the most annoying guy who yells every single time he gets a putback opportunity.  The worst!  Bruised his knee last night but was able to return for 16/9 with a shocking 3 blocks.  Well, not unless you saw how weak Koufos was Greek yogurting them up!

RainbOladipo – 10/6/3/3/0 for another nice multi-cat effort.  Looks really good out there, even if his long ball (1-6 3PTM) didn’t look great.  But he’ll for sure have some double rainbows coming his way the next few years.

Arron Afflalo – Was awful.  As you’d expect.  Yet still a 17/5/3 game in his 5-16 ice cold effort.

DeAnre Jordan – Owned Spencer Hawes.  11/21 last night on 5-7 “shooting”.  I know at least one was a slamma jamma, probably all were.  12+ boards in 7 straight.  With a 9 block game in there.  Unfair.

Evan Turner – Was the only good Sixer last night for 25/8/5 on 11-23 shooting.  He’s having a ridiculous dream season.  Still can’t hit threes to save his life, but hitting everything else.  Including my ego.

Tony Wroten – Got another start for the injured Michael Carter-Williams.  MCW has some sort of knee infection that sounds all sorts of disgusting, so Wroten could see action in a few more games.  While Wroten shot awful (2-12), he had yet another trip-dub flirt of 9/10/7.

Hollis Thompson – Getting more and more minutes with 39:06 in another start last night.  James Anderson is like, “dude, remember me, I scored 38 once!”  Thompson only went 8/5/1 with three steals on 1-7 while Anderson went 8/0/2/0/0 and 0-4 from deep off the bench.

Wilson Chandler – Willllssssoooonnnn!  Nice to see you’re still alive… 17/8/1/0/2 shooting 7-10 and 3-6 from deep.  Couldn’t miss inside the arc!  Been a rough year for one of my breakouts, but standing tough.

Ty Lawson – Chandler apparently spread his bum hamstrings germ to Lawson, who missed last night.  Then the Nuggets went out and scored 75 points.  But they won!  Nugs need their engine back.

Timofey Mozgov – As you’ll see in my REL recap this afternoon, damn that huge Mozgov run and it costing me three wins!  4/5 with a block and 4 TOs in 19 minutes.  Typical he’d have a 17/20 against me…

J.J. Hickson – 9/8 and still quietly very consistent.

Trevor Booker – Dub-dub!  I wish I knew his middle name, because if it started with T he would so be a Booker T playing for Washington…  12/12 with two blocks in 33 minutes, and with Nene still nursing injuries, worth deep league streamer looks.  At least 8 boards and 25 minutes in 3 of the last 4.

Stephen Curry – This just in!  He’s good.  43/6/9 but in a losing effort.  Break up the Bobcats!

Harrison Barnes – Solid while Andre Iguodala is out.  14/9/3/2/0 in 40 minutes.  Getting huge run and multi cat-callin’ it.

Kemba Walker – 31/5/5 in a huge second half.  While he’s still playing great, Pts, Asts and Stls are all down.  Got one pick somewhat right!

Anthony Tolliver – Got the start for the injured Jeffery Taylor, who had started for the injured MKG.  So many SF injuries!  Very boring 6/5/2.  We need Taylor!

Josh McRoberts – Almost didn’t make the game because he thought there was a Pirate door.  “No dude, that says Private!  We’re going into the arena!”  Flirted with a milk steak, er, triple double for 11/10/6.  McRoberts keeps trying to prove us he’s not a dumpster baby!

Nicolas Batum – So many triple-double teases!  It’s like that chick that only wants to use you for a ride and flirts with you, but then you get nothing out of it!  Ok, so it’s not apropos since you got a ton out of Batum’s 3-5 FG night going 7/8/11.

Alec Burks – Plays awesome, plays terrible, now playing awesome again.  16+ in the past three with a 20/3 line last night on 8-11 (4-4 FT) but no other stats.  Will give you a handful of everything but blocks albeit sporadic… Back on the 12-team stream radar.  Give me consistency or give me death!

Enes Kanter – Gets benched, plays terrible on the bench, then injuries get him back in the starting line-up and he’s great again.  The Jazz are such a headache… 19/5/2/2/1 in a near rainbow and 3 of the last 4 games have been great lines.  Play the hot hand while you can.

Derrick Favors – A lot of Kanter’s value relies on when Favors can get back in there, nursing a sore back.  Marvin Williams is also hurt with a bum heel the past 4 games.  I don’t think Kanter  is a long-term solution, but worth streaming and seeing.

Jeremy Evans – Go go gadget Evans didn’t shoot too well (3-9), but was a steal away from rainbowing in his first start going 6/8/2/1/2 and also encouraging was no turnovers in 38 minutes.  Like Kanter, a lot of value depends on injuries and who can come back when, but worth a deep league look.

Derrick Williams – Break it out!  Prison Break!  Derrick Schofield went 12-16 for a career-high 31 Pts with 5 Rebs and 5 Stls.  There’s the Williams breakout many were looking for!  Too bad it’s the last 16 shot game he’ll get when Rudy Gay gets into town…

DeMarcus Cousins – Thinking the same thing with the ball hog comin’, for a huge 32/19/3/3/1 game, shooting 10-17 and 12-14 FT.  Did have 9 TOs though.  Asked why he lost the ball so much he answered because it’s still knocked in his stomach from that Dennis Schroder ball tap.

Isaiah Thomas – Welcome to the starting line-up!  Didn’t shoot too hot at 7-16, but did hit 4-6 from deep for a 24/12 game.  Love me some of that dime bag!  IT2 is gonna be such a kind bud.

Jose Calderon – I think I said it two weeks ago, but to reiterate, he droppable.  He was on tapas his game years ago and is now just a ThrAGNOF lurker.  Don’t get Phoebe started on lurkers!

Dirk Nowitzki – Rainbow line!  Love em.  18/6/7/2/2.  But still a little shocking the Kings blew em out.

Tyreke Evans - Only supposed to miss 1-2 weeks with that really bad ankle sprain I saw last Friday.  I think Tobias Harris was only supposed to miss 1-2 weeks.  I scurred.  Cuttable in shallows.

Jimmy Butler – Is reportedly 75-80% healthy.  I am 75-80% unhealthy.  I drank sooooo much egg nog over the weekend.  Unfortunately, it made me equally as nauseous as my Panthers did… Still don’t think he’s a grab right now in shallow leagues, I need to see him play as effectively as we saw last year and pre-injury, hope he’s not limited even when back on the court.

Deron Williams - Playing tonight!  Rejoice!  And by rejoice, I mean ankle splint salesmen.  About to get a very rich client again… But I keed I keed, I hope he can turn the Nets around and stay healthy.

Next Game:  I’ve got MIL @ CHI tonight.  For the Bucks, I am pumped to see Khris Middleton get some big run again and hoping Brandon Knight goes off.  Hope your week started well and good luck tonight!

You have any buys? I need some adds throughout my four leagues and I’m so focused in all t upcoming football playoffs that’s I’m not focusing on my wires as I should. I mean I drafted well and I snagged guys like Terrence Jones and Amir Johnson, but is there any sleepers?

I’m currently in 6th X 3 and 4th, it’s only week 7 and this is primarily to injuries.

BTW. 7-16 shooting is not great? Just a tad under 50% and the 20+/12 4-6 deep for IT2 is pretty impressive. What greatness from a 11thish rounder my friend.

PS: Baseball is a bit easier to stream while ball is going on for some reason.

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Matthew: I said “not too hot” and my comments were nothing but praise so we agree! 43% isn’t great, it’s solid for a G just not “hot” and more than a tad under 50. I love Thomas, you can see I had him in the 40s in rankings before Vasquez deal. Impossible to really answer without seeing wire options, like Valanciunas to bounce back, Leuer as a stream right now, Kanter may have been dropped. Wait why is baseball easier to stream?

@JB Gilpin: JB, love the advice. Where can I find your rankings you mentioned?

@JB Gilpin: Haha Kb, I wasn’t criticizing you my friend I was mainly commenting how most people weren’t as high on IT2 as us. I was also comparing his FG% towards other players and most of his nights are better shooting haha. Sorry if I offended.

I own Kanter in 2, I own Jonas in 2, I may stream Lauer.

Yea, I am more of a baseball guy, baseball and basketball are my sports esp fantasy but I’m pretty knowledgeable about minors/majors etc. Also, when baseball season is on it’s primarily baseball, hockey basketball and football are mostly together.

@Matthew: Aha, yeah I wasn’t sure, all bueno :) No offense at all just wanted to be sure we were on the same page. Oh I got ya, yeah a agree it’s busy right now, my football teams collapsed right around when hoops started and I was just on too many sports at once. Baseball is my best fantasy game, I watch a ton, I’m good at finding tendencies, and have more will night-to-night to win! Hoops is right up there. Football is the devil. All luck… Thanks for stopping by my man, sorry if I sounded cranky!

            Baseball is mah fav!!

Basketball: I understand not knowing whose on the wire, but guys who are lowly owned, that’s what I basically meant, like a Hardaway Jr or Wroten, who do you possibly have as a Mike Trout type of add if that make sense, hahahah.

@Matthew: Sweet glad to hear! Can’t wait for baseball, and [sorry fantasy football fans] excited for football to end to have 100% on hoops. I love hoops. I like Wroten as the “Trout” level add, he’s already shown us a triple double and another close one, and MCW has been Mr. Peanut Brittle. Def makes sense! Except neither one is gonna be a top 5 player :)

who wins in each of these 3 trades:

    a) durant + frye or harden +pau
    b) bledsoe + alphabet or lowry + mclemore
    c) jordan hill or mcroberts

thanks for the help as always!

    • Prodders says:
      (link)

@hamtime: Durant and Frye, Bledsoe and ABC, no doubt. Focus on getting / keeping the best player in the deal.

      • Jake VZ says:
        (link)

@Prodders: I actually like the Harden side better on the first trade. Yes Durant is the best player in the deal, But Harden is also top 6, and Pau when healthy can produce top 25 number. And Frye is just a fill in, eventually he’ll lose all his minutes and/or starting gig to Markieff

        • Prodders says:
          (link)

@Jake VZ: I don’t think Frye is a fill in. He’s playing v well, starting, getting all the minutes he wants, stretches the floor. I don’t think a never fully healthy Pau shooting poor %s is going to outperform him enough (or at all) to overcome the gap between KD and Harden. The gaps at the top make a big difference vs the gaps further down. KD’s avg Player Rater rating on ESPN last year was around 17/18, vs Harden at around 12/13, and KD is healthier too, consistently plays huge minutes, never misses games.

        • Prodders says:
          (link)

@Prodders: @Jake VZ: For me, KD is worth Harden + Pau by himself, so Frye would be a free option.

      (link)

@hamtime: Gotta be A, don’t trust Pau’s ankles/to be who he used to be. B) Bledsoe, easily best player. C) That one is close and I think depends more on team needs. Shocking, but I mean lean McRoberts… Hill gonna be off the bench for a bit

    My current squad:
PG: J. Wall, Mike Conley, Knight, Patrick Beverly

I have both Terrence Jones and Thaddeus Young in one of my leagues. If Young gets traded for Asik, Young and Jones will be competing for playing time and they both might take a hit in value. Should I try trading Thaddeus Young, Terrence Jones, or both? If so, who should I target in a trade? 9-cat roto, in order from weakest to strongest, I need FG%, FT%, and REB.

    Current Team:

    PG John Wall
    SG Trevor Ariza
    G Ty Lawson
    SF Thaddeus Young
    PF David Lee
    F Terrence Jones
    C John Henson
    C Derrick Favors

    Util Taj Gibson

    BN Tobias Harris
    BN Martell Webster

      JB Gilpin says:

@Brendan: I’d look to trade Young before Jones, I don’t think Jones will get much back in a trade since he’s a new guy. I think Valanciunas fits all 3 of those needs and is a good buy low, maybe float a Young for JV and sweetener or straight up offer out there

  15. Jake VZ says:

So I just made the move Gortat, Ibaka, Klay, and Brewer for my Jefferson, Griffin, Amir, and Knight.
My roster is now Westbrook, Wall, Rubio, Burke, Thompson, Iguodala, Brewer, Love, Cousins, BLopez, Ibaka, Gortat, Valanciunas, and T Jones.

Analysis: I did this because I was in need of blocks, and I think Ibaka is almost just as good as Griffin, I really like Gortat since he’s been pretty consistent and also gets swats. Thompson is a cold blooded killer from behind the arc, which im also lacking in, and helps with Pts, FGM, FTM, and 3s. Like Al, but not impressed with the usual 14/10 line (Thought he’d be better, plus he looks slow and out of shape). I sold Amir high, and with Knight, I like the upside, but he is pretty inconsistent.

Also, thinking of offering T Jones and Gortat for Drummond, and then picking up Gasol
Let me know what ya think JB, Thanks!

    Hey JB.

Who gets the better deal? My Lillard for Dirk. Idk if he’ll bite but I’ll send the offer anyways.

    • Michael says:
      (link)

@Michael: One more thing. Jon Leuer over Brewer or Alec Burks? Need more rebounding than scoring. You think Leuer can keep it up?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Michael: Man… Very close, might lean Dirk as well for as good as he’s playing. I think Leuer indeed keeps it up while Gasol is out. Like him for the boarding over Burks, think Burks can crash and be awful again at any point.

Looks like Richard Jefferson remains my arch nemesis. Landry Fields escapes the keyboard of justice…(echo)

          (link)

@El BURRO: in the REL I own both. I blame Richard Jefferson for ruining my ‘Alec Burks to be 50% owned by the 1st 2 weeks’ prediction. I’m not that bitter… really… I’m not serious though. I’m happy for Richard Jefferson that he isn’t collecting social security yet. I can’t stop. I raise my fist to the sky and yell, “Curse you Richard Jefferson”.

@El BURRO: Totally agree with that. Upside oozes, but not ready to be a must add everywhere,@Slim: Razzball is in talks to have Jefferson a celebrity columnist. His weekly will be called “Why I spite Slim!”

        • Slim

          Slim says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: 38 minutes including garbage time. I think he’s a must add in 12 teamers. Is Salmons stealing minutes? That’s worse than Landry Fields.

I don’t blame Jefferson. I think he’s already exceeded my over/under for starts. Burks will be let loose eventually. Pretty much every playoff team could use 15-20 minutes from Richard Jefferson.

          • @Slim:

I hear you. Having drafted Burks in my 14 and 16 teamers, then watching him over the first 4 weeks, I promptly punted in both based on the fact his game was off and his minutes spiraled. Fast forward a month later, looks like I jumped the gun and he’s playing much better off bench.

Here’s to your dream of Jefferson departing for playoff pastures. Otherwise, RJ is the “veteran” leadership, unselfish Shane Battier esque role for Jazz that will haunt your fantasy dreams.

RE: TERRENCE ROSS. He’s an add in 14-16 teamers for sure. Not “must add” yet in 12 teamers unless he gets 32 min+, which is a stretch. I watched 3/4 of the game tonight and I re-affirmed that I really like his stroke and activity level. Salmons is a much slower version of him, I don’t see him taking heavy minutes away from ROSS. However, he still may start cause of his “veteran” defensive presence. Landry is a bum and should be completely ignored.

RE: BRANDON KNIGHT… weird night. double – double (boards) with 6 TO against a great defensive Bulls team missing Joakim Noah. Glad he went off cause I started him… but trending in right direction.

              (link)

@El BURRO: I did Bucks Bulls highlights. Knight looked fantastic out there. One TO was a charge and one should’ve gone to Udoh who didn’t catch an entry pass right to him. His rebounding was fantastic, he and Henson looked like the best 2 players on the court by far. Given everyone on the Bulls is hurt.

              • @JB Gilpin:

LAKERS SG/SF spot– I’m watching Lakers / Suns game right now. Looks like Jodie Meeks and terrible, Shawne Williams, are the only Kobe Bryant playing time winners — this after watching game #2 with a “slower ” Mamba in line-up. Wesley Johnson, sadly, appears to be the new casualty. I really like Wes’ athleticism, 3pm/block friendly ways, but just not seeing a fit with him, Meeks, Young and Mamba in line-up. Not enough minutes.. Grated, Lakers are playing small ball vs. Suns, so theres that. If they lose, which looks likely, maybe that line-up gets re-thought out… Other losers appear to be Nick Young and Xavier Henry. Just an early observation. Gaysol is still utterly embarrassing. Seriously; such a pansy. Not sure why D’Anotni hates him so much.. Annoying.

JON LEUER — JB, per the intro above — sounds like you sorta like him. Admittedly, I havent watched much Grizzlies hoops the last week. Seems like his value is still tied to Ed Davis health / Koufos productivity, at least until the good Gaysol returns. Still, I remember him being solid at Wisconsin in college, and could see why his game is likely translating… That in mind, wondering how you would rank these 3 potential pick-ups and if you would drop WES JOHNSON for any of them:

                Jon Leuer
                Marcus Morris
                Andrew Nicholson

Looking for scoring, 3s and general productivity.

                Thanks

                  (link)

@El BURRO: I think Leuer stays productive even when Davis is back, but not when both are back. If your window is hot guy now, I’d go Leuer. I think the biggest thing I was impressed with was how well he boarded given he’s a perimeter guy on offense. If I had to pick who does best ROS I’d say Morris, worried about crowded Magic Fs, even though trade deadline should move Davis and maybe someone else to develop

                  • @JB Gilpin:

Cool; thanks for take. Leaning creepy twin, like the offense and scheme better in PHX

Beautiful line from John Henson tonight… 25/14/2/3/6. I’ve been stashing Harris for weeks now, so it pains me to ask this, but worth dropping him for Henson? With Sanders’ return looming and Ilyasova on the mend, is harris still the better play second half of the season? I was content waiting for harris but henson is so tempting just chilling there on the wire (i doubt for much longer though)

@JB Gilpin: I dropped Henson one game before he was inserted into the starting lineup, and was snatched up last week. Boy do I feel like a fool…hope my pickup (Amir) can ease my pain a little…

@JB Gilpin: You don’t think he’ll get crushed when Sanders comes back? I can’t imagine Sanders won’t get back into the starting line up. I’m so torn.

          JB Gilpin says:

@Shaft: Well while I do think Sanders eventualy starts, he has done a lot of damage to his PT with decisions and bad play early on. And they’re not looking to start Udoh over Henson if Sanders is back and Ilyasova is off the bench right now, Henson/Sanders might be your 2nd half 4/5

    What’s up JB,

What do you think of this trade for me?

My Sully, Zbo, and Reggie Jackson for Bosh and Kmart? But I feel like Bosh and Kmart are to one dimensional. But would it be an upgrade? I think I would regret losing Sully the most.

    Here is my team now:
    NBA 12 teams 9 cat

    PG: Irving, Rubio, Reggie Jackson
SG: Batum, Kyle Korver, Danny Green, Alec Burks
    SF: Josh Smith
    PF: Lebron, Sullinger, Randolph
    C: Pekovic, Valanciuas, Sanders
