Happy 2017, Razzball Nation!

After immense pressure from the DA’s office to flip on Tommy DeVito and Paulie Cicero, [redacted] needed protection to secure his testimony in putting those good fellas away.  It didn’t start on the best foot either, as the WitSec guys asked [redacted] if he had any distinguishing marks and he lied about his tattoos…  But the man formerly known as [redacted] changed his name to the very inconspicuous James Johnson, and moved his family to Miami.  After being a humbling under-the-radar role player, Johnson was supposed to continue as merely a minutes-filler, amongst an uninteresting mix of PF to get through the tough void of losing Chris Bosh. He’s supposed to just shy away from dunk attempts and stand around on offense…

Well, way to ruin that, Johnson!  We can’t protect you no more!  An absolute monster weekend from Johnson, going 22/3/6/2/2 against the Celtics on Friday night with 4 treys, then followed it up with 20/7/3/1/1 against the Pistons.  After a rough stretch of FT last week, he made 6-7 in these games too.  With the added onus on O (no Goran Dragic or Justise Winslow OR Hassan Whiteside last night), he is turning it over a little too much (8 total in these two games), but with all the injuries and a void in playmaking on the Heat right now, Johnson is as erect as ever.  He’s playing SF, PF, and even some C right now, so while we shouldn’t expect the 34 minutes like he got against the Pistons, he should be pretty solidified in his 25ish MPG role even when everyone is healthy.  He’s gotta be a must-own in all leagues while this hot, as he has brazenly blown his cover.  Hopefully no one recognizes him as [redacted]!  Here’s what else went down over New Year’s weekend in fantasy basketball action:

Michael Carter-Williams Whoaaaaaa, starting off daily notes in 2017 with a bang!  In the battle of who sucks worse, Hoiberg is now starting MCW over Rajon Rondo (who Hoiberg said “looked slow”).   On Friday, Rondo had his last start and only got 11 minutes, with MCW going 12/8/1/0/1 in 27 minutes off the pine; then Saturday Hoiberg gave Rondo a DNP-CD, and MCW went a blistering 4/1/4/3/1 in 25 starting minutes.  2 TO each in both games, and while Rondo is refuting any injuries and MCW isn’t very good, I might take a stab at MCW in 12er 8-cat leagues or deeper.

Jeff Teague Was huge on Friday despite 2-12 shooting, going 7/6/17/2/0 then survived a kankle scare last night going 12/3/9/1/1.  Lots of surviving for JT!

Trey Burke – In the existential absurdity that is life – and more specifically sports – we get anomalies like Trey Burke going scoreless in back-to-back games then going 27/2/2/2/0 on 10-12 shooting with 5-5 treys Friday night.  Brooklyn Mess defense!  …and no Bradley Beal (kankle).  It might be a few more for Beal, but there’s a million ThrAGNOFs I would rather stream…

Justise Winslow After a dreadful few games, got back on track with a 11/9/6/0/1 line on Friday, then derailed again with a shoulder injury last night…  He apparently tweaked it on the last play against the C’s on Friday; while it’s not a long-term injury, man he’s tough to hold.

Josh Richardson For as cold as Miami and J-Rich’s shot has been this year, it’s time to heat things up!  Absolute monster game Friday for 19/6/8/4/2 with 2 treys, then usable-enough 14/1/8/2/0 with 2 more treys last night.  Not a must-own in 10ers I don’t think, but I’d make strides to try.  If you nabbed him in RCLs though, you’re giddy with joy!

Isaiah Thomas Speaking of giddy, my REL superstar put up my lucky number on Friday night!  What a way to end 2016!  15-26 FG with 9 treys and 13-13 FT for 52/2/0/1/0.  Hey, when you’re that efficient, you can be a ball hog and not get any dimes as the PG!

Jon LeuerMarcus Morris got a DNP Friday, helping Leuer go 22/6/1/2/0 with 2 treys and no TO for one of the best lines in his career.  Then Morris was back, and ish like that James Johnson block happened to poor Leuer…  2/3/3/0/0 yesterday.  Both Leuer and Morris are annoying and not must-owns in 12ers.

Kentavious Caldwell-Pope KCP addiction in full force!  If my New Year’s resolution was to kick my KCP habit (which it wasn’t!), I wouldn’t have been able to lay off after last night!  23/6/5/2/0 on 9-15 shooting, and played with this air of assertiveness that has me thinking there’s still more and more upside to his game.  If the dyno price is right, I would make some offers.

Kristaps Porzingis Well, if the dyno price was right for The Goose, I would make offers here too!  Hah, Goose is prolly untouchable, he’s a monster.  PorzinGod for 21/12/3/2/2 with no TO Friday night, but did have to sit with a sore Achilles Saturday.  He said it’s no big…

Brandon Jennings – With Courtney Lee (wrist) also sitting Saturday, New Year’s eve got a super BJ!  And I don’t mean that kind of BJ, although nothing blew on New Year’s Eve as hard as Mariah Carey!  32/5/7/0/1 in the uptempo loss to the Rockets, with 3 treys.  Mannnnn, I’m lucky I streamed him in a few leagues.  I just circle the Rockets for streaming and let er ride!

Carmelo Anthony Also helped BJ that Melo had knee soreness going into that game, and had to leave early.  It’s the same knee that cost over half of 14-15’s game…  Gulp.

Justin Holiday Had a pretty sneaky weekend, going 8/7/4/0/1 Friday then 15/6/0/4/0 Saturday.  Hit 5 total treys, and if the minutes can stay 25+, can be an under-the-radar 3-n-d stream option.

James Harden Whoa.  Putting the Knicks back into their place as The Poppycockers!  After his typical brand of awesome of 30/13/10/5/1 on a mad efficient 10-15 shooting against the Clippers, went for a historic 53/16/17 with 9 treys against the PoppyC’s.  First player in NBA history to go 50/15/15 and tied Wilt for the most points in a tripdub.  Shoulda been my #1, but #2 ain’t bad!

Montrezl Harrell Fits with Harden way better than Nene, getting a huge 29/3/3/1/1 line Friday with no TO, then 13/4/4 Saturday.  Shot a combined 16-21.  I was never that big on his game when he hit the NBA last year, but he’s big and quick, and fits the pick-n-roll with Harden exceedingly well.  Easy to be a FG% monster when almost all your shots are easy layups and dunks served on a platter to you.

Tyreke Evans Followed up a nice Wednesday showing by going 16/5/4 with 2 treys Friday against the PoppyC’s with only 1 TO.  That was in only 18 minutes too.  I still worry about re-injury and how many minutes he can handle, but needs to be owned in most leagues now.

Raymond Felton Well, someone had to benefit (with so many Clips hurt) with the matchup against the Houston Rockets…  “Did someone say Betty Crockers?!”  No, Raymond, stop thinking about baked goods!  26/5/8/1/0 with 4 treys on 10-20 shooting, then a semi-usable 9/2/4/1/0 with a trey on Saturday.  I mentioned sometime recently he’s been sneakily efficient, which is ironic given his full frame stature.

Marreese Speights The ace of Speights!  15/7 with 2 blocks Friday then 18/4 Saturday with 6 total treys in the 2 games.  It’s pretty empty, big man ThrAGNOF ala Mirza Teletovic (when he got minutes), but that’s usable to some teams!

Brandon Bass – Deep league special (and now REL bias for JB!), off a 18/6/0/0/1 line in some garbage minutes against the Thunder.  That said, Wesley Johnson‘s ankle flared up again (only 2 minutes Saturday), leaving all the other PF minutes for Paul Pierce (give him CPR!) and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute (can I buy a vowel?!).  Interesting option while Blake Griffin is out for the deepers.

Andrew Wiggins Chipping in a few extra stats!  31/6/5/1/0 Friday, then 24/5/1/1/0 yesterday.  Had 5 TO yesterday though, after a really efficient streak…

Shabazz Muhammad 22 points Friday in the blowout win, then 12/6/0/1/0 last night, with 6 total treys.  Hot ThrAGNOF!  Although he’s more of only a POINTSnof…

Kris Dunn Something tells me they don’t teach you this move at basketball camp…

I don’t blame Shabazz Napier for his reaction of “what the f was that?!”

Kawhi Leonard Had to sit a few games this past week after eating a questionable burrito, giving Jonathon Simmons added run and USG on Friday for 19/3/2/0/2.  Kawhi promptly returned last night and Simmons promptly returned to a marginal bench role.  Kawhi was rusty for only 13/4/2/1/1 on 3-12 shooting, but he hit a key 3 to keep it close in the final minute, had a game-winner spin off the rim twice at the end of regulation, then was clearly fouled on a drive at the end of OT.  He’ll be fine this week.

Tony Parker Will only be fine this week if he slept last night in an ice bath!  32 minutes for 22/3/6 for the elderly Frenchman, who has 18+ points the last 3 games.  He’s appropriately available on a lot of wires, but I could see giving him a few games on your RCL roster.

T.J. McConnell Got a start sans-Sergio Rodriguez (kankle, but doesn’t sound too serious for White Chocolate), going 17/2/8 against the Nugs in a win.  Dapper Dan isn’t worth owning when Sergio is around though…

Dwight Powell So this makes sense, has his most prototypical C game with all the Cs healthy!  10/13 with 2 blocks against the Warriors, although that actually does make sense…  Warriors love their small-ball C play.  And Andrew Bogut actually didn’t play to rest.  Meh no way you can trust Powell – or any big for that matter – on this squad.

Kevin Durant Not to be the only superstar NOT tripdubbing, went 19/11/10 against the Mavs on Friday.  Let’s have Stephen Curry start taking over again, OK KD?!

JaMychal Green This is the J-Mike we like!  After a great game on Thursday, 18/7/4/1/0 with no TO Saturday, with 4 treys and shooting 7-9 FG.  Worth an add in virtually all leagues if he was left out there.

Chandler Parsons Bouncing back?!?!?!  7/1/2/1/0 with a trey in a pretty epic line for Chandler Parsons in 2016-17…  Hey, at least we ended 2016 on an upswing!  Marc Gasol…?  Did not.  0-6 for Marcy Marc in 21 minutes against the Kings for only 2/2/2/0/0 before leaving with an ankle sprain.  Apparently he could’ve come back if it were dire, so we might not see any DNPs, or maybe only 1-2 at most.

Matt Barnes – Bleh.  20/8/3/0/0 in that Grizzlies loss, and had 5 treys.  Too many other guys worth owning to have him anything more than a streamer…

Darren Collison …for example, get Colly back on your rosters if you can!  Ty Lawson was held to under 10 minutes on Saturday night after sustaining an injury to “face”, Rotoworld said…  Hah.  Suffered a “stable, non-displaced maxillary sinus fracture” so a cheek fracture near his nose I think…  Slim, where’s our Razzball Basketball doctor?!?!  Maybe Doctor G can help here more too…  But it might not be a long absence and Lawson could wear a mask…  Anywho, Colly went 16/4/2/0/0 on 8-16 shooting in 39 minutes that game.  At the very least, Colly should have big minutes the next few games.

Malcolm Brogdon One of the stories of the weekend!  Matthew Dellavedova picked a bad time to pull a hammy!  DellaV missed the whole weekend, with Brogdon going 11/4/4/1/0 with a trey Friday then tripdub alert!  15/11/12/0/0 with a trey Saturday.  That said, 3 TO, no D stats, no FT that game…  Of course add Brogdon where you can based off this game, but I still think this will be an annoying time share when DellaV is back.

Jabari Parker The breakout continueth!  20/6/3/2/0 then 27/5/3/1/1 over the weekend.  Wish I bought in more this year…

Giannis Antetokounmpo I bought in plenty here!  I didn’t do any redraft auction leagues, or else I think I would’ve bought a lot of Giannis…  35/9/7/2/7 on an absolutely epic night dismantling the rival Bulls on Saturday, hitting 13-19 FG, a trey, and 8-11 FT.  Wow.

Jordan McRae – Interesting, I had a backup bid of only $1 on McRae in the REL expecting him to go for more given the upside we’ve seen in the D-League, and coming off a 20/4/1 line on 8-12 shooting with 3 treys Saturday.  Sure, Kyrie Irving is hurt with a hammy, but McRae had that line as a starter next to LeBron James and Kevin Love, and it’s not like SG isn’t there for the taking on this team.  If anything, McRae is a dynamite stash if you’re in an uber-deep league for the fantasy playoffs, as he easily could be a starter when everyone is DNP-Rested and have some big games.

Kemba Walker 37 points on Saturday in the loss to the Cavs.  Only celebrated his made shots this time!

Victor Oladipo Welcome back Dipo!

Finally returned off his sprained wrist Saturday night, going 15/4/2/0/0 with 2 treys.  Not the best line given his draft day price, but it was off an injury, and dat pass doe!

T.J. Warren Dude, ya fa real?!  Moves into the starting line-up (wooooo!) only to play 19 minutes vs. 35 for P.J. Tucker off the bench (booooo!).  Super annoying!  Bad one on Saturday for Warren, but this was against the Jazz, so hopefully he gets the 30+ min role back.

George Hill Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.  Picked up a concussion in only his second game back after a long absence due to the toe, preceded by an absence due to a thumb.  In between absences, he’s been redonk!  Such a tease…  Jazz can’t keep their starting 5 together!  And PG is a mess, Dante Exum missed Saturday with knee soreness, Shelvin Mack is committing way too many TO…  Can we get Alec Burks back yet?!  He’s almost back, likely will return this week, but no way he can play much….  Raul Neto time!  Or maybe we can just bring Stockton back!

Tim Hardaway Confucius say, “When a ThrAGNOF is hot, you ride the ThrAGNOF!”  29/5/1/0/0 in the huge win over the Spurs, including the pivotal 3PTM to tie the game with 3 seconds left right before overtime.  11-13 FG with 6 treys for Timmay J.  While watching Tiny Tim get hot, I noticed Kent Bazemore sulking on the bench…  He used to be the bench energy guy!  Not too happy ceding minutes in this one.  Even in RCLs, owning Hawks wings is a fool’s errand.

Paul Millsap So Trillsap!  32/13/3/0/1 with 3 treys on 11-23 shooting.  Hawks are apparently “listening” to offers, but hopefully that means only for elite returns!

C.J. McCollum Speaking of elite returns, C the J is being the J!  43/5/3/3/1 in an epic line, taking over the true alpha role with Damian Lillard still out with a kankle.  CJ shot 16-25 with 3 treys and improving across the board from last year.  Yup, I was way wrong to doubt this kid’s game back in the day.

Kyle Lowry I never doubted Lowry’s game!  Just the health wayyyyy back in the day.  Lately I’ve been Lowry’s champion, especially vs. Slim’s hate!  41/9/7 on 12-16 shooting with 6 treys and 11-11 FT last night; other than steals falling from 2.1 to 1.5, his numbers are way up across the board as well from his 15-16 career season.  Sure, sure last night was against the Lakers, but they all count!

Nick Young Gawd I hate having to write about Swaggy P in a non-joking manner in the daily notes…  26/2/0/2/0 last night with 7 treys, giving him 12 treys the past two games on 14-22 shooting.  Hot ThrAGNOF, remember what Confucius said about them!

Julius Randle Rainbow alert!  15/9/6/3/2 and a great-to-see 9-10 FT.  Still struggling with overall consistency though – that said, he’s been a late-round steal.

Thomas Robinson – Another deep league special!  The big REL buy of the week ended on a 12/9/2/1/0 line last night, and is playing pretty consistent 15-20 minutes with a high FG% and rebounding rate.  Will chip in about a block a game as well.  Worth a look in 14+ and deeper if those are stats ya need.

Whew, first daily notes of 2017 in the books!  This weekend was a doozy!  Lots going on to kick off the new year.  Thanks again to everyone making 2016 a huge calendar year for us, and here’s to an even bigger 2017.  Catch you again tomorrow morning, Razzball Nation!

    Hi Guys,

Happy new year, wanted some advice on a trade. I’m in a 12 Team, standard 9 Cat, ROTO league.

    My current roster is:
G: Wall, Beal, Matthews, Lou Williams, J Lin, Rondo
F: Aldridge, Wilson Chandler, Ilyasova, Leuer
C: Marc Gasol, Howard, C Zeller
    IL: Chandler Parsons

    My points are: FG: 7, FT: 3, 3PTS: 11, PTS: 11, REB: 11, AST: 11, ST: 9, BLK: 8, TO:2

I have been offered Gay, Crowder and Reggie Jackson for Marc Gasol, or Gay, Crowder, Reggie Jackson and Pau, for Marc and Rondo. What do you guys think? Rondo seems to have fallen out of favor and the deal should help my steals.

    I am second and he is 4th, his stats are: FG: 3, FT: 12, 3PTM: 9, PTS: 10, REB: 8, AST: 8, ST: 8 BLK: 7, TO: 5.

    His roster is:
G: Lillard (On IL), Bledsoe, DeRozan, Reggie Jackson, Richardson, Brogdan, Tyreke Evans
F: Crowder, Gay, JaMychal Green, James Johnson
C: Cousins, DeAndre Jordan, Pau Gasol.
    IL: Dion Waiters

Thoughts? If I do a deal who should I trade, I offered Wall, Marc, Aldridge, Chandler and Rondo, for DeRozan, Bledsoe, Gay, Crowder and Pau, he has come back with his offer.

Also Beverley, Deng and Allen are available to pick up.

    All advice welcome, Thanks.

@Shahed: Happy new year! Wow that’s a ton for Gasol. And you have some droppable guys. I like that deal in either form, probably would do the Rondo one. So then dropping Leuer and… Ily or Leuer? I’d also try to get Howard off your team asap

      • Shahed says:
        (link)

        @JB Gilpin:
        Hi JB,
Thanks for the advice. He has now come back with an offer of receiving Marc, Aldridge/Beal, Howard and Wall, and me receiving DeRozan, Gay, Crowder, Reggie Jackson, Pau and two of JaMychal Green, Josh Richardson, James Johnson, Brogdon, Dion Waiters.
What do you think, I want to offload Rondo, he was keen on him before, not sure now though. Should I offer Rondo and Wilson Chandler, and ask for Bledsoe instead of Reggie.
        Thanks in advance.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Shahed: Whew, this is turning into changing half your roster! Let’s balance sheet it:

          Wall for DeRozan/Reggie let’s say
          Marc for Gay/Crowder
Beal (I’d rather move him than Aldridge I think)/Howard for let’s say JMike/JRich

It’s a lot to unravel, you need most help in FT/FG/TO. Reggie isn’t the biggest help. Rest I think is actually a decent haul. Yeah I would counter with Rondo and Chandler instead of Beal to get Bledsoe

          • Shahed says:
            (link)

            @JB Gilpin:
Thanks for the advice, He’s no longer interested in Rondo, which is understandable, and he is not willing to give me Bledsoe. He’s last offer is receiving Marc, Aldridge/Beal, Howard and Wall, and me receiving DeRozan, Gay, Crowder, Reggie Jackson, Pau and three of JaMychal Green, Josh Richardson, James Johnson, Brogdon, Dion Waiters.

            I don’t think it’s worth it.

I think I will just stick with what I have, I’d love to move Howard, but I don’t like Reggie really. I don’t really like the guy making the offer, he’s a bit annoying to be honest, always posting B/S on the message board.

I’m currently second, have dropped Rondo already for Felton short term. Moved J Lin to IL and activated Parsons. Thinking of streaming guys, dropping Leuer, maybe even Parsons, even though I stashed him for so long, and Zeller is now out. I think I can survive the bad FT% in the league I’m in.

            • JB Gilpin

              JB Gilpin says:
              (link)

@Shahed: Yeah it’s starting to turn into him throwing all his junk and hoping it works. Rondo can def go. Yeah Reggie doesn’t fit any of your needs too well, I agree.

Cool yeah Felton is a nice short term play. Def would hold Parsons, I think Zeller could go though, really weird he’s in the protocol between games, so something odd cropped out. Sounds a little scary

              • Shahed says:
                (link)

                @JB Gilpin:
So someone has dropped Beverley, I’m thinking pick up Beverley for Felting tomorrow, and picking up Harrell for Leuer, and Henson for Zeller. I think that should help my needs for FG% and Blocks, and less TO.

                • JB Gilpin

                  (link)

                    (link)

                    @JB Gilpin:
OK, so this guy seems desperate to trade with me, he has now proposed:
Him receiving Wall, Marc, Aldridge, Howard and Beal. And me receiving Bledsoe, Gay, Crowder, Jackson, Pau, Green, Brogdon, Richardson and Johnson. Again, I think no, but I just wanted to check your opinion. I think I should stick with my moves. I told you he was annoying. Anyway thanks for all the help in advance, this is the best place for fantasy news.

@Shahed: Yeah, you just don’t get a top tier guy back like Wall and get a lot of junk at the end of his roster. Yeah it’s a pass for me too, agree I’d stick with you moves.

Thanks so much man, we try!

Advice on this would be appreciated.

Traded Deandre Jordan for Isaiah Thomas this week (The day before he blew up for a 52 piece!)

Need to make up for some boards..

I have Dragan Bender, Would you recommend dropping him for Thomas Robinson or Henson.. ?

Really taking a long look at T-Rob this morning with an itchy trigger finger.

12 team H2H deep 15 man rosters. Thanks

You say JRich ain’t a must own in 10ers, and I say POPPYCOCK to that! Happy I dropped Warren for him. MKG went for James J and now my team is fielding Miami’s best criminal defense team: Johnson, Johnson & Richardson. Last night was particularly multi-cat-licious in that game against DET. Fun trio to own. Could be ROS guys too.

JB, what it is!!! Happy New Year! Hope you had a good one, sir.

Alright, I have Rondo in a ten teamer H2H that has DD as a category. I’m thinking he’s still a hold for the time being as I already have a streaming spot, but the DNP wasn’t good and it looks like his role in Chicago is murky going forward.

If he’s not a hold, potential adds would be JaMychal, Gordon, Dirk, Tyreke Evans, MKG, Harrell, umm…. Tyson Chandler…?

The position isn’t all that important (I’ve got Curry, Holiday, Jackson at PG). I’m just looking for similar stats to Rondo’s, and maybe a DD once in a while.

Any of those guys above jump out at you or do I ride out Rondo for this coming week?

    Thanks JB!

@JakeTPE: What it is good man?! Happy new year!

Oh man lots of good options, yeah Rondo is gone. Probably getting Harrell, I know DD might not be too common, but I think he’s got the upside. Chandler I think should be owned too in the format, maybe instead of the streaming spot for now. I know it doesn’t quite fit Rondo, but bigs like that shouldnt be avail

      • JakeTPE says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks JB! Yeah, currently looking at 2nd DNP in a row on Monday after meeting with team management. Can’t be a good sign. OK, I will take a shot on Harrell or Chandler and keep an eye on Rondo in case he somehow gets out of the doghouse…. Ugh…

    Slim says:

Yeah there couldn’t be a more obvious sell high right now than Lowry. 47.8 FG% sustainable? Probably not. 45.6 3pt% sustainable, even less likely. Career high rebounding, maybe it isn’t by alot. 7.2 assists? OK. 1.5 steals is in line with his career. Career high TOs, makes sense. If I could get Wall for him I’d take it. If anyone is trading for him like he’s a 1st rounder I’d take it. Kemba vs Lowry is pretty much even given that I don’t think Lowry can keep this up down the stretch at age 30.

McRae is kind of interesting but I didn’t put in a bid on him. I put in a backup bid on Kay Felder. That kid can play and he’s only 21. I could see his minutes start to climb, check out his per36s so far…
17.7/4.1/6.1/1.3/0.7 with 0.9 3s on .444 3pt%, and he was a monster for Oakland last year. Kids got some big time upside, and since he’s short the comp is probably IT2/3rds who was drafted 60th overall while Kay was drafted 54. The only thing about McRae at the 2 is that they seem to want that to be a position for defense, ala Liggins/Shumpert, so as long as the big 3 are healthy McRae is probably a DNP.

Richardson is a must own everywhere. I don’t know how he isn’t, he’s finally looking comfortable out there and he fills up that box score like few others when right.

@Slim: Josh Richardson is still avaiable in my league (10 team). My worst guys are Parsons, mudiay and jamychal. Do you think he will be better ROS than any off them?

      • Kostas says:
        (link)

@James: Just by watching Parsons and his on court movement i have little faith that he can be servicable before the ASB…J-Rich is producing and will only benefit from miami’s bad record(player development, potential Dragic trade)

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Slim: @James: @Kostas: I’d probably take Wall too, but Wall is playing out of his mind and I had them back to back, I think you argued having Lowry closer to 20 than my 13 I think it was. Maybe 12, I aint fact checking haha

I considered Felder too, I had $0 bids on him, but wanted to take the shot on McRae needing 3s this week.

Richardson – no boost these last few games from no Dragic, Whiteside, Winslow? I know they were there the game before. I’d probably own him everywhere, 10ers just get so murky sometimes.

James – def getting J-Rich, I still like upside of Parsons though. Would lose Mudiay

Couple of trade offers I am mulling over.
    1. My Adams and G Harris for his Gortat and E Turner? Much better playoff schedule is a prime factor here plus Adams free throws.
    2. Same two for Beal and P Bev?
    3. Same two for Beal and Carroll?
    4. Same two for Gay and Nelson?
    5. Same two for Randle?

My team: CP3, RJax, Jennings (streamer slot)
DeRo, Leonard, Porter, G Harris, Smart, Leuer
Jokic, KAT, Adams, Poison Goose, Horford

Thoughts on these trade ideas in my 12 team, 9 cat, h2h league….and whether Sergio or Barea are worth owning given my need for assists, steals. Thank you Gents!

@Johnc: 1. Hmmmm. Slim has so much bias in that deal he will yell it’s a no brainer no. I think I would try for more. 2. Still going for more. 3. nah 4. Maybe, I might try for more than Nelson as the throw in 5. Nah.

Sure Sergio can help, I wouldn’t mind losing Leuer for him

      • Johnc says:

        @JB Gilpin:

            @JB Gilpin

: I am now in the league of non-traders! So reluctant, ugh. So I will go with what brought me. Be what do yo think of Buddy…been shooting so much better. I might give him a run if Smart, Leuer or BJ cough it up early this week. To see Korver, Buddy and Crawford on the wire when guys are seeking threes is interesting.

Happy New Year! Dealing with some health issues (Blake and Capela…) and trying to patch it together for the next several weeks. Immediately picked up Montrezl and Mo Buckets and mission accomplished last week (6-3 W)… Been offered a trade that I was hoping to get your opinion on. His S. Adams and J. Clarkson for my Mirotic and Ryno. I’m thinking of pulling the trigger…

My current roster in a 12team/9cat/1IR spot
Harden, Kyrie, Jrue, LaVine, D. Booker, Gorgui, Ryno, Taj, Harkless, Montrezl, Speights, Mirotic with Blake and Capela on the shelf

    Thanks in advance!

Happy new year JB and Slim!! Hope ’17 is rocking for you guys!!

Yeah, the Ty Lawson injury is a little unusual in the sense that you don’t really see facial fractures too often in basketball. I tried searching for similar injuries to get an idea of time frames, etc, but unsurprisingly I wasn’t able to find much. The good news lies in the first 2 words that are used to describe the injury; stable and non-displaced. “Stable” refers to the fracture being a clean break, as opposed to the bone being shattered into a million pieces. Also, the fractured bone is stable in it’s place, and won’t move around to affect any surrounding structures. That makes it much easier to set the bone and allow it to heal. “Non-displaced” means that the fractured bone wasn’t displaced into any surround tissues or nerves. Thats important, because that means that there shouldn’t be any complications moving forward with regards to nerve damage or airway compromise (the maxillary sinus is basically adjacent to the nose and is surrounded by these thin bones that are pretty easy to break).

So what does that all mean in terms of fantasy? Well basically, the fracture itself will take about 6 weeks to fully heal. Ty won’t be out that long however, because as we saw with the Mike Conley fractured transverse process, once the healing process begins, it becomes more of a pain management thing. This is not an ankle or a knee where stress is constantly being applied to that region. The main concern here is re-injury, which could set back the healing process or even worsen the injury. So if/when Ty does come back, he’ll be doing so as the masked man, ala Rip Hamilton back in the good ‘ole days. I don’t think the risk of re-injury is particularly high or worrisome though, especially compared to a fractured vertebrae like Conley had. A maxillary sinus fracture is the rarest of all sinus fractures, and it really does have to get hit in juuuuuust the right place to break. So the odds of that happening again are pretty low. My best guess is that he might spend a couple games on the sidelines, and he’ll be back with no restrictions in about a week. We could see him back as early as Friday against the Clippers, or maybe Sunday against the Dubs. But yeah, I’m not expecting something like this to linger or be much of a long term thing at all, but then again I could be wrong!! Either way, it should give Colly a little breathing room for a couple games at least to try and figure it out and assert himself. I know this whole thing was pretty vague given this particular injury, but I hope it was somewhat helpful (and accurate)! Thanks for all the great work you guys did in 2016 JB and Slim, you guys are the best and Razzball absolutely rocks!! 🙂

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Doctor G: Happy new year man! See, this is why Razzball is the best resource out there. Crowd sourcing more and more info in one place! Thanks so much for the added analysis! Yeah that’s kinda the time frame I was thinking too, with the idea Colly has a window to have huge minutes and big games and get a stranglehold on the starting gig again. Either way, he’s worth adding for the few games due to the role.

Thank you man, Razzball commenters are the best, not us!

      • Doctor G says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: My pleasure man, anything I can do to help!! Feel free to give me a shout on any injuries, and I’ll always try my best to add or breakdown anything I can. Like you said, Razzball is indeed THE best resource out there, hands down. You and Slim and the other writers do such a great job, so I’m just happy to contribute in whatever way I can my man. Just put me in coach!

And yeah, looks like good ‘ole Colly has a chance to put up some numbers here and try and stop the Ty Lawson momentum that was coming on pretty strong before his freak injury. Collison did mention he was feeling more comfortable last game, and he said that the 2 weeks before that he kind of checked out mentally, so theres that I guess. For what its worth, I always kind of had this hunch that his struggles this year may be related to that whole domestic issue this past summer. Just seems like something isn’t right and hes just not playing basketball right now. Pure speculation on my part, of course. Anyways, keep up the fantastic work as always JB!

@Doctor G: Hah you’re our man! I bequeath you our official injury expert haha.

Well that’s not great to hear, that a player would ever check out mentally haha. But yeah, the domestic thing really hurt my appreciation of him too.

          Will do man!

  11. Larry says:

So I didn’t grab Lin off waivers and he’s still an FA haha. Then Parsons, Sergio, and Knight get dropped, any of them worth grabbing or stashing? Most likely dropping Carroll.
My team: Harden, Bledsoe, Fournier, J Rich, G. Harris, RoCo, Carroll, Noel, RoLo, Gobert. 9-cat H2h punting TOs. Do I need more dimes? or should I stash Parsons? Looking for ROS/playoff value. Thanks! Happy New Year!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Larry: Yeah I am not in a rush to get Lin where avail either haha. Def get Parsons for Carroll, I think there’s still upside there. Sergio is real close, but I like going upside, esp. since you mention Playoff value. Any time, happy 2017!

Happy new year JB hope you are doin good!

    H2H – 9CAT – 10Man league here.

The last 3 weeks have been frustrating for my team so here are some quick questions.

    1) My Gortat + Bradley for his Horford?

2)What do you think about Whiteside ROS? Hes been frustrating lately and theres too much talk about Miami tanking and Hassan gettin rested or just slacking during the games. I mean he was my second round pick, should i be looking to trade him? Who do you think would be a suitable buy low target?

3)Markieff Morris or Jamychal Green ROS?

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Tenethor: Happy new year man, hope you’re doing well as well! 1) Sure, always like consolidating into best asset in 10ers 2) I’ve written a few times I’m really worried he’s gonna phone it in in the 2nd half. So yeah what you mentioned. I would def shop, btu would wait until he’s back from this eye thing. Maybe try forrrrr Lillard right now? 3) I’ll lean JMike, I like the lower TO and added 3s Will do man!

  13. Drez1 says:

Happy new year guys. So I’ve got an offer of Mirotic for my ‘Keiff. Both have been underwhelming this season for the most part, but it’s a dynasty, and I feel like Miro still has more upside.

    h2h standard cats + oreb/dreb.

    Thanks.

@Drez1: Happy new year man! Agree with your analysis, I like Miro there

  14. Tyler says:

    Hey JB! Happy new year!
Wasn’t able to nab redick since he got waiver claimed.

Dropped RoLo for JMyke as well. seems like a perfect fit for my punt pts/FT build.
Harrell is also available, do I have a drop?

Other FAs: Noah, Mudiay, Smart, T.Allen, Monta, Reke, Mirotic, Nurkic, Aminu, Len, Clarkson, MKG

    Lineup:
    G-Dragic,Bev,Holiday,Oladipo,Ariza
    F-Lebron,Covington,TBooker,Warren,JRich,JMyke
    C-Whiteside,Deandre
    IL-Lin

    • Tyler says:
      (link)

@Tyler: nabbed JMyke for the backtoback Tues/Wed then planning on dropping him for Harrell for the Rockets Thurs/Fri b2b. Or should I drop Warren instead?

      • Tyler says:
        (link)

@Tyler: Korver is also available for 3s that doesnt hurt FG%

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Tyler: Happy new year man! Damn, well at least someon burned a waiver. Harrell i like a lot, yes a good scorer which doesn’t fit, but a great FG% boost. I think I like your JmIke/Harrell plan, and would hold Warren. See if he keeps it up a few more games and see if you can deal him

  15. Jason says:
    (link)

Would you rather drop Winslow or brogdon? Also, nurkic is trending up- worthy of a pickup?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Jason: I’m not the biggest Brogdon guy especially since I think Delly will keep a big share of mins, but Winslow can go. If Nurk keeps up minutes, and Delly gets back soon, yeah I would lose Brogdon for Nurk in a few games, but waiting and seeing for now

      • John says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks! just to clarify, brogdon and winslow are both droppable in a 12-teamer? Also, Sergio Rodriguez just got dropped, is he worth a look? and would it be a good idea to stash middleton/simmons closer to their return dates?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@John: Yeah I think so. I’d prob take the shot at Nurk over both right now. Unless PG was more the need, then you could get Sergio

  16. Ballin' says:
    (link)

Looking to trade McCollum for a big man. Any suggestions? First is DMC and I will add one, but I doubt that is accepted (or is not vetoed). Who else to target? KAT? Goose? Gobert?

Ideally, looking for PTS, REB, BLK with 3’s, AST, and STL being bonuses.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Ballin’: I dunno man, CJ is playing out of his mind right now! I would start with DMC and go from there. Doubt KAT or Goose work… Maybe try a buy low on KAT. I would probably do the Gobert one too given needs, but if any of those other guys work I def like it more

  17. Tyler says:
    (link)

Drop MKG for nurkic, mcw, speights, henson, saric, sergio, clee, noguiera, turner, noel, aminu?
    Punting pts.

    • Tyler says:
      (link)

@Tyler: i also have noah and carroll to drop if you think mkg is better

      • JB Gilpin

        JB Gilpin says:
        (link)

@Tyler: If you need a PG and given you’re punting pts, I like Sergio, but it’s a gamble given health. Maybe you wait on Sergio. I’d be fine streaming it until then, all of these guys are in the same range. Carroll and Noah can be streamed too, remind me your streaming rules?

        • Tyler says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: im sorry i didnt quite get the last part? Streaming rules? Do you mean how many adds allowed per week? I get 4 adds. Haha.

          • JB Gilpin

            JB Gilpin says:
            (link)

@Tyler: Hah yeah that’s what I was very un-eloquently asking haha. So yeah 4 moves, I would hold Noah while playing OK and Porzingis iffy, stream out Carroll unless he has some sort of weird monster game against the Spurs tonight (doubtful), and likely add Henson for tomorrow. If henson plays well, maybe hold him for Friday too in a Knicks rematch, but if not, just stream for needs by the weekend

  18. Tyler says:

    thoughts on these three trades?

      JB Gilpin says:

@Tyler: 1. I’d do it, but I hate Lin and the hammies. I would try my best for a better throw in. 2. Love this one. 3. Hell no
