Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

Pretty much anyone involved in the big Rudy Gay trade has gotten nothing but positive return except Greivis Vasquez.  Poor Vasquez… And easily the biggest winner right now is Isaiah Thomas just going off with the backcourt to himself, going 29/6/2 on Friday night and 19/2/8 last night.  With both PGs there in Shaq-ramento to start the year, it was like the first Terminator, then IT2 got flipped into the main good guy and it’s movie magic in the sequel.  Coach Mike Malone even came out and said Thomas is gonna lead the NBA in minutes.  Iron man!  Well I guess it would be hyperalloy combat chassis covered by living human tissue man… I wish Vasquez had never gone to Sacramento, because as I mentioned last week, I aggressively ranked Thomas early in the summer.  I love this kid.  He’s going to be extremely tough to go out and trade for right now, and I certainly would not be selling.  He’s got both Gay and DeMarcus Cousins to dish to, plus he’s a fantastic scorer.  I have all sorts of IT2 regret now since he’s not on any of my teams… Womp womp… Here’s what else went down over the weekend:

Jon Leuer - Continues to be awesome.  15/9 last night.  Think he’s the 3rd big to own in Memphis, passing Kosta Koufos and Ed Davis, but that’s a pretty clear assessment with Kosta getting 16 minutes and Davis only 7 last night, to Leuer’s 30.  I wore down Slim to get Leuer on my team in a trade by throwing in a razor and a boomerang.  Aussie Aussie Aussie!

Glen Davis - Dislocated his shoulder last night.  He hurt the shoulder last year and sounds like this one wasn’t as bad as he’s hoping to get right back out there.  Tobias Harris played a decent 23 minutes off the bench, and would be huge to own again should Big Baby miss much time.  But as I’ve said numerous times, I’m avoiding the Magic Fs like a plague in standard leagues.  Harris is the guy to own, but not even a must-own by any means to me unless Davis is traded or out an extended time.

Tyreke Evans - I was shocked his bad ankle sprain two Friday’s ago didn’t cause him to miss any games, but he re-tweaked it a week later this Friday and will be missing time.  Deron Williams and Tyreke have the worst ankles ever for NBA players… Get these guys some high tops!  Austin Rivers put up 17 last night in 22 minutes, but he’s not that good.  Nothing to see there.

Kirk Hinrich - His back tightened up and had to miss Saturday’s game, depleting already the league-worst PG depth.  Marquis Teague got the start, and proved me not too stupid for my huge FAAB buy on him in REL.  Baby brother Teague went near-Rainbow 7/1/3/2/3 in 28 minutes, hitting a three and shooting 3-6.  He’s really, really raw and only on the radar for the deepest of leagues, but I think he can rack up a few dimes and steals for the 20-teamers if he can keep holding off D.J. Augustin while Hinrich is out.

Brandon Jennings - Neared a trip-dub in the OT loss for 15/8/10.  At 7.7 Asts a game this year, he’s blowing up his former career-best Ast rate.  Gotta love having some talent around you!

Josh Smith - A big part of that aforementioned talent.  31/7/4/1/1 in another great line.  Been a little hit-or-miss, but despite his scoring and boarding down, his slash of 14.4/6.6/3.5/1.5/1.4 is still killer.

Andre Drummond - A big reason why J Smoove’s boarding is down, going 13/14/0/3/3 last night for another double-double and great steals/blocks #s.  I was so wrong on Drummond.  Drummond lovers unite!

Mike Conley - Left late last night with a thigh bruise.  Not sounding like anything serious, but if he does miss a game, an improving Jerryd Bayless could be worth a deep-league stream if given a start.

Corey Brewer – 9/12/2 with three steals last night.  I just traded him too, nice going-away game!  The 12 boards doubled his previous season-high of 6.  #IHeartOutliers!

Brandan Wright - Huge 2013-14 debut, playing 19 minutes and going 9-10 19/6/1 while destroying the BBB (backup Bucks bigs) not to be confused with the Better Business Bureau.  Larry Drew’s BBB rating is an F-.

James Harden - Keeps hurting his feet.  Needs some tough actin’ Tinactin.  Rolled his ankle last night but played through it, making him very questionable for Wednesday’s game.  Luckily it’s a pretty long break until humpday.

Michael Carter-Williams - Just can’t get back on the court from this knee infection.  It came out over the weekend that Tony Wroten could see time with MCW when both are healthy, so whenever MCW finally does get back on the court, I think you hold onto Wroten.  Love his game right now, think he can keep up the boards and ancillary stats when MCW is back.

Giannis Antetokounmpo - I spelled his name right without looking!  Finally got it down.  35 minutes on Saturday night for 13/9/4 with a block.  Ersan Ilyasova looks atrocious out there, so I could see decent run for Giannis, but not locking it down for any consistency.  I hate Larry Drew.  He hates fantasy.

Alec Burks - As soon as your think he’s turned the page while hot, he just bombs again.  3-9 on Friday then 4-16 9/2/0/0/0 on Saturday.  Why I haven’t picked him much as waiver wire adds in the comments.  Avoidable in most leagues as a long-term option, streamable when hot.  Which would be my Bon Jovi cover band CD title.

*Guess Kobe Bryant’s Stat Line* - The winner on Friday was Slim!  Kobe going 4/1/13/2/0, I picked the highest Asts, but Slim had the closest overall.  All commenters welcome to guess his line for a contest we’ll do every weekday Lakers game.  My guess for tonight – 17/4/9/1/0.  Good luck!

Terrence Ross - Another big winner in the Gay trade, went a huge 24/5/0/1/1 on Friday night then 9/6/4/1/1 on Saturday.  I’m with ya Slim!  Must own in 12-teamers.  Ross will end up being one of your best Friends.

Jonas Valanciunas - It’s all coming together for the Luminescent Lithuanian!  Double doubles in two straight, going 15/11 with 4 blocks against the terrible Bulls on Saturday.  Long live LL! LLLL!

Andrea Bargnani - Well poop.  As soon as I said Il Diva was a drop in most leagues, went out for 22/7/4 on Friday night then 23/6 on Saturday.  Tyson Chandler should be back soon, but Bargs is still worth owning until then while Kenyon Martin also deals with some injuries.

Lou Williams - Broke out with a huge game like we saw last year before tearing the ACL, going 27/2/3/1/1 in 29 minutes hitting 6 threes.  You’re my boy, Lou!  Worth a look in 12-teamers as a ThrAGNOF/scoring add.

Rajon Rondo - Cleared for practice over the weekend.  Jordan Crawford owners cringe… Rondo should be a few weeks out though, but trading Crawford ASAP would be a great sell.

I hope everyone had a great weekend, and we’ll be back to the in-depth recaps of every game through the week!  Happy week 8!

who has more upside for the rest of the season? terrence jones or brandan wright? jones could get pushed out by young if the asik trade goes through.

    • Sio says:
      (link)

@Sio: or maybe just grab asik now instead of those 2?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Sio: I’d still lean Jones but close… I still think it’s premature to assume that specific trade works but we will see. Wright is in a fairly crowded front court too. I’d hold Jones of the 3

      • Sio says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: thanks man! i’m loving jones right now and i’d hate to drop him for a scrub.

Harden trade got vetoed. Why I do not know. Anyways….
Got offered IT2, Hawes, and Noah for my Westbrook and Gortat. What do you think?

    • Jake VZ says:
      (link)

@Jake Van Zuiden: @Michael: And I offered two trades. I think i get the better deal, but just checking with you.

      1. My Klay, Burke, Westbrook, and Iggy for Curry, Hayward, and Kawhi
      2. My Westbrook and T Jones for Hawes and IT2

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Jake Van Zuiden: People vetoing trades is getting out of hand in today’s fantasy game. I lovvvvvve IT2 but man. It’s close, if you need big man depth I’m OK with it but not in love. I like the Curry one the best below

      • Jake Van Zuiden says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: could also do MCW, Harden, and Vucevic for Westbrook, Cousins, and Klay

JB. been tryin, but I’m gettin no ass in these trade talks. I don’t get it bro, why won’t they call me back? This be my squad:
PG: J. Wall, Mike Conley, Knight, Patrick Beverly
    SG: Waiters, Burks, Reggie Jackson
    SF: Kevin Durant
    PF: Ibaka, Henson, Leuer
    C: Gortat, R. Lopez

    • Pavel says:
      (link)

@Pavel: I should also clarify. I’m trying to do the 2-1 deals. And owner of batum refused. Same with Kawhi. So real talk. who would you offer to make it enticing? I think there is some depth on the wire that I could pick up. Any tangible suggestions?

      • ETMcgee says:
        (link)

Geez, you would think the best team in the west coming off a 2-win weekend would at least get a blurb in the roundup.@Pavel: depending on the other team’s needs, to get batum is going to be tough without giving up at least 1 of wall/conley/durant/ibaka, probably would need 1 of those and lopez or something to get into discussion

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@ETMcgee: Don’t shake the Blazers fans! You know this is a fantasy blog right, not real life? I led with LaMarcus on Friday and I don’t think anything too rattling happened for fantasy. Can’t recap every game or else weekend pieces would be 10K words long!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Pavel: Just try to ride it out my man! Find a team that is at least rejecting trades and try to work from there. PBev might be cuttable at this point, same with Burks, for stats you need, but like your team a lot

  10. Frank White says:
    (link)

Is Danny Granger any good for a fantasy team?? Meaning is he coming back as a starter cause I never really heard of him.. Funny cause I’m not a Basketball watcher.. Lol

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Frank White: Granger used to be a top 20 player before knee issues. At least I think that’s about where he was. I wouldn’t touch him for fantasy, I don’t know if he’ll start, can’t stay healthy anyway

  11. Michael says:
    (link)

    TJones or JJ Hickson?

    • Jake VZ says:

      • Michael says:
        (link)

        @JB Gilpin: Thanks guys.

      • @JB Gilpin:

Think it depends on the league, stat categories, rest of your roster, etc.

However, it’s not my blog, nor did you ask me. I just like to comment on certain guys. TJones is one of them., I also make a small habit of fading JB ; )

Personally, I like T. Jones overall fantasy friendly game more than JJ’s solid production in a few categories. Jones is a rare breed of guys that can block, swipe and shoot the 3 with some decent boards and points. Most of JJ’s lines are of the ‘shallow’ variety. He does not play defense particularly well (blocks and swipes are below average for a BIG)– he’s more of a high FG%, boards and points guy for me…

In sum, T. JONES > HICKSON.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@EL BURRO: If given equal opportunity, I would agree. But I think Hickson’s role ROS is more certain. But I know you love T Jones.

          • @JB Gilpin:

“Love” is slightly aggressive. Like, yes. I’m using TJ as a UTIL guy in a 14 team H2H league (with 3 UTIL slots), so I guess it depends on context and what rest of squad looks like. I tend to build around BIGS, so in my particular case, he’s a complementary piece to dominate those categories (boards, blocks, FG%, TO, etc). If your squad needs boards, points solely — I’d rather lean JJ. So, I think I need more info to make a better determination.

            • JB Gilpin

        • JB Gilpin

OK enough of that! I got my business socks on.

My Kyrie for his IT2 and Stephenson? You owe me one after giving me to OK to trade my Drummond for his IT2 whom I offloaded in a multi-player deal landing me Boozer and Korver….ugh

    Buenochay!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Jay_0321: Hah – well I wouldn’t have done that second deal! Not my fault! And getting IT2 for Drummond looks like a winner right now! I think I’d still hold Kyrie, not that I think Granger can do anything, but he might cut into a bit of Stephensons minutes

      • Jay_0321 says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I actually traded Kyrie today for Lillard (another one of my original drafted players). Thoughts?

I’m in a deep 18 teamer/KEEPER, he was one of my last buys and I have him for $3…. he’s been nails so far this year, not sure if I should attempt to sell HIGH as I read everywhere or just hold and see?

    Thoughts.

@Tony: I don’t think “kills” but maybe “badly wounds” Especially early on as Rondo eases back. Maybe wait and see, Rondo could always be traded too he’s always a convo, although I won’t bet on it

  32. PLease don’t start trying to reverse JINX, Andre Drummond. Last thing he needs … is for you to suddenly start liking his game and have him thinking he’s better than you really think he is. That was a mouthful. That’s what she said. Wow.

PLease stay true to form, JB. Hate the player, and the Drummond game. He’s been a monster with your company line to date…

Yes, I’m the guy who believes in magic, unicorns and fantasy gods. You should see me during baseball season.

    Thanks

@EL BURRO: It’s working today! I paid the refs. Foul trouble alert! Your fantasy shrine looks like an 8-year-old girl’s bedroom! Haha. That sounds wrong…

      • @JB Gilpin: If you have a daughter or niece or even a younger sister, that comment is fine… If not, uh oh.

Detroit v, Indiana is a great game. Told you those Pistons were gonna be sneaky this year. Still think they are a top 4 team in EAST, although the EAST is god awful.

        • @EL BURRO:

Speaking of fantasy shrines, reopening my Jordan Hill one. Looks good tonight. Waiting for ‘Antoni to screw it up, but liking my start of him this week (4 games).

@EL BURRO: Niece yes. So I barely survive. Yeah DET looking good and your call looking good with how bad other teams look right no. No denying their talent. Loving KCP is still starting for semi-decent returns for a 20 teamer. Jordan Hill time! Yeah he just plain is better than Williams/Johnson, but Doh-Toni loves effing it up!

This trade has come around again. Do you think I should pull the trigger on this?

My Sully, Zbo, and Reggie Jackson for his Chris Bosh and Kmart and Wes Johnson?

    My team is
PG: Irving, Rubio, Reggie Jackson, Pat Bev
SG: Batum, Kyle Korver, Danny Green,
    SF: Josh Smith
    PF: Lebron, Sullinger, Randolph
    C: Pekovic, Valanciuas, Sanders

I just think I have a lot of SG’s but I feel like I would upgrade my team. Or are they just name brands?

@teeque: I was impressed with Sullinger last Celtics game I saw, but I like getting Bosh and KMart I think I do it

Also how about my Kemba and Ryan Anderson for Kyrie and Tyson Chandler?

Finally going to try dropping Brewer. I am pretty much done waiting for his come back from a horrific December. Would be dropping him for Alec Burks who I dropped right before his 2 bad games. Also dropping TJones for JJ Hickson. Don’t know if I’ll get both as they’re both available on the 18th and I am currently waiver 7 of 14.

@Michael: I buy both those moves… Brewer is still decent, but yeah, tough game tonight.
