The Lakers and dear ol’ coach Doh-toni are just an absolute mess right now.  And just to make things even more interesting, there are injuries, mystery, intrigue, vets returning, and a scheme to divert water reservoir rights.  With Pau Gasol out for two weeks with a bum groin and a good chance out of L.A. before the trade deadline, this whole team is turning into the end of Chinatown.  “Forget it, Jake.  It’s Chinatown!”  And you really can forget pretty much everyone on this team right now, as three vets returned, two guys got hurt, and it’s turning into a bigger Hollywood disaster than The Adventures of Pluto Nash.  I bet Norbit could play PF for the purple and gold!  Since going through everything that happened for the crumbling Lakers would be an 800-word paragraph, let’s hop out of the open and machine gun through em, plus what else happened last night in the world of fantasy hoops:

Jordan Hill - No Gasol, in the starting line-up, finally about to get that big run we’ve been holding out for, andddddd… Hurt his head and his… cervix?  Is that what a cervical strain is?  I’m no doctor!  Didn’t even get through 4 minutes of game time looks like he’ll miss at least a little time…

Jodie Meeks -  Also got hurt, but in the first 2 minutes of the game.  Brutal injury right when we needed him to establish his role with all the guards coming back.  Tweaked his ankle on a defender and may only be minimal time, but man, rough.

Steve Nash - Speaking of rough, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think Nash is the G to own in LA for the medium-term.  Not the short-term because he’s probably getting benched tonight, and not the long-term because the Lakers suck and either will trade him or bench him.  Looked decent in his return for 7/1/9 in 25 minutes.

Kendall Marshall - Knocked down to 21 minutes for 5/3/3.  Could see a nice resurgence tonight with Nash likely benched in the back-to-back, but I think it’s time to move on in 10 and 12ers.

Steve Blake - Dewey from Malcolm and the Middle played 32 minutes in the start at the 2.  Might be the smallest 2 to ever play in the NBA… Well, I guess Nate Robinson technically played some 2… Anyway, 0/5/6/3/0 shooting 0-2 returning from the bad elbow.  Then also ruptured his eardrum!?  I guess the sound of Nick Young bricks can be quite clamorous.  Blake’s elbow is going to be tough to lean on for any 3-point production…  But that said, can help you in deeper leagues with some cheap dimes and steals.  DimeStealNOF!

Wesley Johnson - Fallen out of the main rotation then thrust right back in with Hill hurt and Pau with an ow.  38 minutes for 15/9/1/0/2.  Shot 7-16 leading the Lakers in FGA.  Wait, hold the phone!  Nick Young didn’t lead the Lakers in shots last night?!  Preposteroni, D’Antoni!  Young for 24/2/0/0/0 and 4 TOs tells you all you need to know.  Wesley on the other hand pretty much has to play and will help you across the board, but not jumping at him in 12ers just yet.

Ryan Kelly - Yea, he’s Ryan Kelly.  Shot only 2-11 for 6/2/3.  I’m obviously biased in Chapel Hill blue, but Kelly is the one who blew!  “I’m afraid I just blue myself…”

Manny Harris - Lakers MVP the rest of the season!  20 minutes shooting 8-11 for 19/8/1/1/0.  Seriously though, will get some run in the short-term.  Deep leaguers definitely take note.

Lakers Cs For Now – Robert Sacre and Chris Kaman.  Yuck.  Although I did like Kaman coming into the year, D’Antoni just never gave him a chance.  Eh, nothing really to worry about now though.  Snooze ya lose.

Ronny Turiaf - Finally, players for other teams!  “Wait, Turiaf isn’t on the Lakers anymore!?”  Nope!  22 minutes – in another start for Nikola Pekovic who still doesn’t have a timetable with a bum ankle – for 2/5/0/0/2.  Sure that line is a little scoff-worthy, but he’s becoming a little swat-worthy.  5 last game and 14 in his last 7.  That’s averaging two blocks a game!  Man, I love how good I am at mental math…

Kevin Love - Fell hard in this game.  Glad he didn’t shatter.  Fantasy owners sure held their breath!  Last thing they need is to lose Love right before Valentine’s Day…

Lance Stephenson - Also had a hard fall.  The Pacers are off until Friday so you hopefully won’t miss a single Lance party.

Mike Scott - Love this guy.  Continues to be a role player off the bench but 15/5/2 last night and is crazy consistent given the minutes.  Been a big boost for the real deep leagues (like my REL squad!).

DeMarre Carroll – Was on a tear but slowed down a little last night.  8/3/2/1/0 shooting 3-8, but gets a little bit of a pass since against the NBA’s best D.

D.J. Augustin - Bounced back from a down game Monday for 18/3/2/1/0 with three treys.  You’d like more assists, but I’d also like DJ to be owned in all leagues.

Markieff Morris - Pushed for a rainbow line, but you gotta dish dat rock!  12/5/0/2/2.  Shot only 4-13 and had 5 TOs.  Hey, at least he didn’t shoot like…

Gerald Green - … who went 2-13.  Just so inconsistent.  Or…

Channing Frye - … who shot 2-11 from deep.  Dude, take a dribble or two in, man!  Did have a very nice line of 18/8/1/1/2 though.  He had been fading and as not a Frye guy, this is throwing a wrench in it!

Golden State Warriors - 75 points?!  That’s it?!  Against the BOBCATS?!  Yikes.  Just a bad game, not too worried about your regulars, including David Lee‘s slow game returning from a shoulder.

Kemba Walker - Returned from the ankle sprain for a rough 3-11 shooting game but very nice 7/6/7.  Played 33 minutes and had to leave with a cramp in the 4th.  If he was Leo from The Departed was the trainer, he would’ve ordered Kemba a cranberry juice.  Ramon Sessions – welcome back to the wire.  But hey, gave ya a nice run!

Gerald Henderson - 17/8/6 in a multi-cat effort?!  Go back to only scoring!

Next Game:  Got Yahoo highlights for Mike Scott @ the Pelicans.  I mean, Hawks at the Pelicans.  I’m about to link, like, 15 Mike Scott highlights in tomorrow’s recap.  Be sure to set your line-ups on a full slate of games tonight and good luck to your squads!

About to make another REL trade. I already traded away my Timmy Jr so I guess it’s time to lose Timmy Sr too. It was a great run and probably the single biggest reason I’m making my playoff push. I can’t believe I’m going to lose Jeremy Evans too. Not sure what I’m thinking about there.

I hope your gonna keep an eye on Ajinca too. See if he can build off his 27 minutes and 8/10/1/1/2 from last time out. Solid matchup vs whoever is playing center for Atlanta this week. I’ll be looking forward to an offensive rebound put back dunk highlight. What I’m really looking for will be a little razzball watermark somewhere in the Mike Scott highlights. Don’t get in trouble though.

Bobcats can play some defense. I think they’re a top 5 defense.

@Slim: Haha if there was any way to watermark one, I would. I’ll watch Ajinca intently. Interesting, didn’t know the Bobcats were that good on D, but the Warriors only getting 75 is probably their season low… But yea, didn’t know that

I was scoffed at by this site when I advocated my move of scooping up Nash 2 weeks ago but in my scoring league with 2 pts for assists, he was a no brainer flier add as PGs are precious commodities. I struck lightning in a bottle twice this year through free agency as an early add of Jordan Crawford and trading him 2 months ago landed me nikola vucevic(and yes I would take a bullet for the magic so the deal was extra sweet), along with procuring dj Augustin when he was 1 percent owned. These moves have catapulted my team into a playoff spot and Nash’s upside is too great not to at least “stash n see”.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Jeffro: Scoffed at by whom? Me? Well Crawford I didn’t like ROS and that was correct. So I guess my advice should’ve been “Pick up Crawford because some moron is gonna trade you Vucevic for him!” Haha no way I could know that. Augustin we’ve been high on since he debuted with the Bulls so we’re with you there. Sure Nash is fine as a stash, as above, I said he’s the medium-term PG I want there. 2 Pts for assists makes all PGs that much better.

      • Jeffro says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: it was not you jb who scoffed at me about Nash, but realistically what can Nash do for the ROS with my leagues logistics are avg points per game contributing to weekly total (4 gms 100 pts, 25 avg on week) but the # of games played doesn’t matter. With assists so crucial at 2 pts, Nash can earn a roster spot but is he better than iguodala, Beverley, khris Middleton, Jodie Meeks are fighting for my last 2 starters n 3 bench slots

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Jeffro: Oh wow yeah all of that helps Nash an infinite amount. Meeks being hurt is a bench and yeah, that format could totally see Nash over Iggy and P Bev right now

Meanwhile, I picked up JV the other day and he’s puttin up nice TT-like numbers. Really need him to give me at least a blk and an assist every now and then though. BUT, Miles Plumjam has now popped up on the wire. Is he a better source of dub dubs with blks? I know JV will put up bigger pt totals on the reg, but im not liking the zero defense and off nights on the boards. Ily and Henson are also there as sources of pts, boards and other. I’ll check those two cats out today during their game v Den. Let me know your thoughts

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Lasandro: Haha thanks man! Well with Professor Plumlee (new nickname!) a possible bench if Gasol got there, plus some inconsistency issues and I think I stil with JV. I know brutal with the peripheral stats, but think they come. Henson if he gets consistent minutes might take over both of them, but who knows there in Crazy land (Milwaukee)

      • Lasandro says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks dude! Super urgent suggestion needed: Oladipo is now starting off the bench tonight against the Pistons. I’ve benched JV against SAC for today, but should I plug him in for Oladipo, now that he may be getting a shorter run off the bench?

        • Lasandro says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: or drop Nene against SAS?

          • Lasandro says:

Never mind, all locked in ha! Ended up going JV over Oladipo. SAC and TOR havent played each other yet so going on a calculated risk here. Hopefully DMC gets into foul trouble ha

                (link)

@JB Gilpin: Bahaha I shoulda! He had a great game damnit! All my hopes are laying in JV’s hands now.

Onto another topic. I have Nelson and have kept him purely for his assists and threes. S Blake went nuts today and I owned him happily before he went down. Think he’s worth swapping with Nelson, even though Nash didnt play today and Blake’s assists numbers may have been inflated because of it? Nelson’s been reliable but Blake can really rack up teh threes and assists with stls. Let me know

                  JB Gilpin says:
                  (link)

@Lasandro: I’m rooting for JV too! 3 fouls at half is no bueno tho… Blake’s elbow still scares me. hit two threes but 2-7 from deep. Lakers also crowded and against a very bad team right now. I’d hold Nelson still

Which of these trade would cause you to leave the dock and float your boat?

    1)Bosh/Teague for Ibaka/Pierce
    2)Bosh for Bogart/Pierce
    3)Bosh/Lin for Thad Young/TAJ

    • JB Gilpin

wow what a shitty night for my fantasy squad. Marshall loses all his value and meeks goes down with an ankle sprain…I have to drop Marshall, I’m holding Meeks because he is amazing, the PGs are so thin in my league its ridiculous for an 8-teamer… luckily I get CP3 back soon and Jrue will hopefully come back at some point. Stuckey, Livingston, Bradley, Felton, P.Bev, and Reggie Jackson are about the only options out there. what do you think? For an 8 teamer these options blow… I remember 3 weeks ago when Jameer was on waivers hahaha those were the days. (all in the family theme song voice). Also is Jrue worth holding? He is KILLING Me.

      • The Tristan Thompson Conundrum says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: You know what i ended up streaming that spot for Danny Green on Thurs. then swapped him for Blake on Friday/Sunday it’s working out pretty well, but I’m still losing this week 3-6, but I’m in 3rd place prob gonna be 4th after this week which is the cutoff for playoffs, I’m not too worried since I’ll be getting CP back this week. Blake looks like a hold for me as he has D’antoni’s favor right now.

@The Tristan Thompson Conundrum: I’m sry to hear your team was terrible last night. On the flip side, my 7 guys scored 280 ( Jennings, gay, bron, bosh, c lee, jam Crawford, and vucevic) it was epic.

        Deng
        Millsap

Sup JB! Love the write up. Keep it up. I am now 2nd place in my league.

I think me and the Lakers have a love hate relationship. I love the Lakers but fantasy-wise… I hate em.

Picked up Farmar couple months ago before his injury and the day I had him in my line up he gets injured. Fast forward to present… Picked up Hill couple days ago and he goes down with a head injury and will definitely miss time.

So I’ve decided to stay away from Laker players. Picked up Shaun Livingston for Hill.

BTW when do you predict Pekovic coming back?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Michael: Thanks man! Glad to see ya almost on top! Fine with Livingston as a pickup there, tough injury for HIll. Pek… eh maybe another week and a half? Don’t like no timetables. Give the man a timetable!

Hey man, how’s it going?! Asik is on the mend. Where do you see him in a 12 team H2h? I need big man stats but looking at his line from last year and the dismal one from the short time this year, I think his value in real life as a large man who looks like Judge Reinhold’s younger foreign brother eclipses his fantasy value. True statement? Is he worth a pick up and stash in a few days? Does he have any impact on Terrance Jones’ value?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@miles proudfoot: Pretty good man thanks! Dentist today – no cavities! Always nice to hear. Hahahaha on Reinhold… Asik does look like him… Might have to make a graphic there… Nah I don’t think Asik will have value in 12ers while on Houston. Tjones has been too good

Anyone see the end of the Lakers game?! Amazing. Lakers so depleted that when Sacre fouled out they were forced to keep him in. Absurd. I had no idea that was a thing.

Anyways, JB, I am now more confused then ever about what to do with Marshall:

    Marshall: 24:57 mins 12 pts / 4 reb / 7 ast / 1 stl / 4 threes / 1 TO / 4-6 FG / 0-0 FT
    Blake: 39:54 mins 11 pts / 10 reb / 15 ast / 3 stl / 2 threes / 7 TO / 2-7FG / 5-6 FT
    Farmar: 33:30 mins 21 pts / 1 reb / 8 ast / 2 stl / 5 threes / 3 TO / 8-15 FG / 0-0 FT

I cant decide who to own, if any. I’ll put the blame on Blake’s shooting on his elbow. That’s got to get better right? And one it does, Is he the one to own since he can spend time at both SG and PG?

    • matt says:
      (link)

I wouldn’t want to own any of them! Try trading blake tonight to some moron owner after his trip dub lol

    • JB Gilpin

@Shaft: Hah I didn’t catch it, will look it up. Ehhhh I dunno if it will get better re Blake. The assists might be real again though. I indeed think he’s the guy to own of those 3. Wouldn’t want Farmar or Marshall right now. Think Nash and Blake should be owned in about the same amount of leagues right now. But Nash sitting here and there is going to be no fun

  20. matt says:
    (link)

Well Blake trip dub tonight doing his lance Stevenson impression (NOT) bcuz it was versus a team who’s losing on purpose for the lottery. Anyways…that’s about it. Oh they won also lmao

@matt: I mean, the Lakers would do great next year if they do all of that! Kobe and… Jabari Parker? Wiggins? Oh man, would be fun. Cleveland is awful right now. Same with Jeff Green’s line. Against the league’s worst D. People gonna freak!

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@matt: Steve Blakes triple-double was significantly better than any of Stephenson’s though. In the 4 that Stephenson has had he has more than 1 steal once and more than one 3-pointer once. In a points league Stephenson is a high end contributor, worthy of all-star praise. In standard 9-cat though I like Steve Blake’s per game numbers better. It comes down to steals, 3s, assists, and FT% vs points, boards and FG%.
