Ah, the fountain of youth. Something Arizona certainly doesn’t have! The retirement haven of America – just ask Tyson Chandler – oddly boasts the most ridiculously young team. Last Thursday, they had a younger starting 5 than all but 1 of the 8 college teams playing in the Sweet Sixteen that night, and not surprisingly, the youngest starting 5 in NBA history. The retirees in Phoenix love to watch em young!

Despite being a god awful team, there still is a lot of promise with the draft picks they made, highlighted by the absolute insanity that Devin Booker dropped 70 points on the Celtics last Friday night. Insanity that he was the youngest player to break 70, that he set a franchise record, OR THAT THE SUNS STILL LOST?! Hah, take your pick.

On that layup there to kick off the GIF, Marcus Smart is like, “meh, whatever, we up 20.” 21-40 FG (4-11 3PTM 24-26 FT) for 70/8/6/3/1 in the craziest line of the year. I mentioned on our last Pod that the Suns are kinda like random number generators right now, so who knows what you’ll get next?! Well, next was 23/4/5/0/1 with 4 TO in a blah encore for Dbook. His shooting arm was tired! He did get another 7-7 FT yesterday though against the Hornets (nice to see the volume staying high), but they yet again lost, and he’s doing this without Eric Bledsoe, instead with a group of similarly young pups. It might vault him to be drafted a little too high for my liking for next year, but maybe he can turn into DeMar DeRozan with 3s. Which hurts the FG%, but I’m all optimism right now! “Never Seen So Many Guys Happy After An L!” huh?! Well, Jae Crowder – aka Party Pooper – it’s the end of March and I’m in super depressed mode after I had 3 of my 4 alive teams lose in semis this week! Why you gotta harsh my buzz!  Here’s what else went down in fantasy basketball action over the weekend:

Nikola Jokic After continuing to be godly with a 30/17/5/1/0 line on Friday, was more jock-itchy for 8/13/2/0/0 on an uncharacteristic 4-14 FG Sunday.  You can’t get too mad, he’s led owners to such green pastures!  Which hopefully doesn’t describe your jock itch region…

Elfrid Payton Move over Westbrook, here’s a better tripdub threat!  Hah, not really, but Elfrid added yet another to his Shelfrid with a 14/11/10 line last game out on Friday.  Pretty snazzy weekend for my mid-round PG I always recommend!

Dennis Schroder Speaking of, The Shrodes had a good weekend despite destroying your TO earlier the week, going 28/7/7/1/1 then 24/3/8/2/0.  Got those steals up to 0.9, I knew he could be a 1.0 guy!  Push!  Push, Dennis, push!

Ricky Rubio Speaking of times dos, Rubio is ending the year so strong it’s turning into a career-best season.  19/3/15/3/1 then 16/4/4/1/0, shooting a usable-enough 11-24, and 11-11 FT.  Mi amor es un jamon!

Ian Mahinmi/Marcin Gortat As we watch one of the bigger big man collapses from The Martian (maybe not quite as bad as when Roy Hibbert all the sudden was bad at basketball during that second-half collapse with the Pacers), Mahinmi is picking up some streamable games (16/7/0/4/1 Friday), but then sometimes both are duds if they wanna go small, like Saturday when they beat the Cavs (10/5/1/0/0 for Gortat, 9 minutes of UGGGHHHH for Mahinmi).  Just don’t roster either for the finals.

John Wall Great call by Dusty, as we got a phenomenal playoff-atmosphere game Saturday night, with Wall going ham for 37/4/11/2/1 on 14-21 shooting.  Cavs might have trouble with the Wiz at this rate!

Dario Saric Blew up on Friday against the Toros, going 32/10/2/1/0, but then shot only 3-15 yesterday against the Pacers on a 9/10/1/0/0 line with 4 TO.  Man, he’s gonna be one the top-5 hardest-to-rank players for next year, with this incredible finish… Questions around how he gels with Simmons and EMBIIIIIIIIIIID though…

Shawn Long – These awful teams are always gonna have fantasy streamers at the end.  NBA season is Long, right Shawn?!  18/7/1/2/0 on Friday, then 15/10/1/1/0 Saturday.  Shot 15-23 from the field in a hot weekend, but was 3-6 FT and the playing time is still pretty low.  Deeper league flier more than a 12er streamer.

Nikola Mirotic Continuing to be a Hero, not a Zero!  28/8/1/0/0 with 6 treys last night for Miro, as he closes out the season strong.

Jimmy Butler I now hate Buckets.  Directly bounced me from one RCL that I thought I was going to win, with an unbelievable 43 assist week.  3 straight dimebags!  Where in the flipping F did this come from?!  I mean, they don’t have a PG or Dwyane Wade, so I guess it makes sense…  Then on top of that, he scores 109 points on 54.7% shooting.  I hate everything.

DeMarcus Cousins Another reason I came just short in that loss, Cousins went into last night a game-time call, and the big baby sat with a sore ankle.  I probably shouldn’t rib him for it since I’m still nursing my kankle a little, BUT I AIN’T PLAYING IN MY FANTASY PLAYOFFS ON SUNDAY NIGHT!

James Harden While we fear The Beard, right now we fear the wrist!  Took a hard fall at the end of the win over OKC yesterday, and it sounds like DNPs might be coming.  Apparently he initially hurt it earlier in the week, so maybe he pushes through, but Mike D’Antoni said it’s something Harden will have to manage the rest of the year.  With only a few weeks of the regular season left, might turn into maintenance time…  Ugh.  Stay tuned.

Buddy Hield Nice weekend from Steph Jr., going 22/8/7/2/0 then 15/7/2/1/0 with no TO yesterday.  Somehow the Kings beat the Clippers last night!

Willie Cauley-Stein Your reason why!

Cleaning up the glass!  Something UK didn’t do last night, GO HEELS!

Jordan Clarkson Man, ups and downs like a pop singer!  5 Pts, 35 Pts, 10 Pts his last 3 games, but at least if you used him Friday, you’re feeling pretty good!  35/2/5 with 8 treys against the Wolves.

Gordon Hayward Ruh roh.  Another injury to a key guy over the weekend, as he took a shot to the quad and left early on Saturday – questionable for tonight.  Hopefully we can trust the Gordon’s Fisherman will be back!

Mindaugas Kuzminskas Mind Games Coozie Skis had a nice run the past few games, going 14/8/2/1/0 then 19/1/2 Saturday at the Spurs.  Shot 8-12 that game with 3 treys.  I know Carmelo Anthony is sitting with a sore knee and a shutdown could be inevitable, but I’m not too big on streaming Kuzminskas quite yet.

Willy Hernangomez I would be streaming Big Willy though!  Although he’s probably owned in most leagues…  24/13/1/1/1 to wrap up the weekend in that Spurs loss, but looked really good!  Just shut down Melo and Rose, and let some youth play!

Taurean Prince Pretty much the only thing to go right all weekend in basketball (other than UNC playing well).  On the Podcast previewing the weekend, I mentioned Prince as a stream and did so in a few RCLs, and he gave you a 17/6/1/3/1 line with 2 treys against the Mess last night.

Andre Roberson Speaking of wing defenders, Roberson has turned into a streamer’s dream this year!  If you were able to get him for yesterday afternoon’s showdown in the West, you got a nice 8/7/1/4/1 line.  So many stocks!

Trevor Ariza I bet some leagues came down to Ariza hitting 9-11 FG yesterday and 6 treys.  His line was great – 24/6/6/3/1 – but if his FG% somehow WON you a matchup, that would be some great irony!

Giannis Antetokounmpo Go-go Gadget arms!

34/13/5/2/3 for an epic rainbow Friday, plus the NBA top play and a gnarly pick-6 with that dunk.  “Only” 22/8/4/0/0 yesterday, but I am feeling more and more inclined to be bold and have him #1 next year.  Might be too bold!  I dunno!  I’m still in a little bit of fantasy shell-shock…  I need to huff some KCP, immediately!

Well, hopefully your weekend went better than mine.  I love writing about fantasy hoops and think I’m a decent player, so it stings when I lose.  Especially when my favorite league was a slaughter.  More on that this afternoon.  Sheesh.  As they say in Game of Thrones, “baseball is comin’?!”  Hah.  Hopefully you had a better weekend than I, and I’ll cheer up for tomorrow’s notes!  Give me some commenter therapy, Razzball Nation!

JB!!!! I made it to the finals buddy!! Woo!

    Not over yet!

Just made it in… with this team –

    isaiah / Wall / G. Hill / Joseph / Barrea / Gary Harris / Jamal Crawford
    Lebron / Saric / Aminu
    D. Howard / Turner / Brook Lopez / Monroe / Holmes

I know this is early in the week, but i made 3 out of my 4 moves this morning……. !

Let me know what you think

Dropped – Barrea for Shawn Long

Dropped – Jamal Crawford for Lou Will (dumped by other team in semi’s)

Dropped – Aminu for Tobias Harris (dumped by other team in semi’s)

Did i jump the gun on moves ? or you like ? Still got 1 move left.

    12 team / 15 man rosters deep / H2H

Thanks for all of your words this year!

      @Mr. Blast: Nice man!!!!

Only move that scares me a little is the Long add. You have strong guards, but I dunno if you have enough treys. Maybe it’ll be close if ISaiah has a big week. I like the others though! Lou Will is sneaky since Harden may not wanna shoot as much.

Of course man, thanks for dropping by, and let us know how it’s going through the week!

        Team I’m going against –

Dragic / McConnell / Bradley / KCP / JR Smith / Josh Rich / Butler
Jeff Green / Wilson Chandler / Amir Johnson
        Jokic / Aldridge / Capela / Adams / Kanter

My Team after pick ups –

        Isaiah / Wall / G. Hill / Joseph / Barrea / Gary Harris / Lou Will
Lebron / Saric / Tobias Harris / Shawn Long
        D. Howard / Turner / Brook Lopez / Monroe / Holmes

        What do you think ?

@BILL BLAST: Hmmm, yeah they’re not loaded at treys either. Probably giving you edge in scoring. leBron is a big wild card, if he plays all his games, I think you got it. A DNP might make it close

  3. Foreign Affairs says:
    (link)

Well my only team still contending finally kicked the bucket in the semi’s this week. It was a keeper team that I built to win this year but it finally ran out of gas having to drag Lowry and Bledsoe along. Ryan Anderson going down to also didn’t help. I love me some Dario especially for REL but it’s hard to project him next year. Think it will be tough ranking the big three for the Sixers next year especially if they get that lakers pick and bring in two top 10 rookies.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Foreign Affairs: Damnnnn, yeah those late injuries make it tough.

All the Sixers are gonna be nightmares. Is Simmons gonna live up to promise? Trust Embiid health? Saric gonna ever touch the ball? Yikes.

      • Foreign Affairs says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I always figured I was on borrowed time with Bledsoe given how bad the Suns are. Hopefully he doesn’t continue his injury every other year streak since his rookie year 81/40/76/43/81/31 and then this years 66 before dnp not young enough. I’m pretty positive every injury was knee related so that concerns me.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Foreign Affairs: Hah I dunno if there’s enough of a correlation to buy into that, I mean maybe a long season wears him down too much for the next year, but injuries are always impossible to figure out

  4. JakeTPE says:
    (link)

JB, sir, you may have lost, but you can take solace in all the teams you helped to the fnals and lift that virtual trophy. So, for that, we thank you. Think about it. You will have had a hand in hundreds of championships! Without you, we wouldn’t have done it! JB! JB! JB!!! (And Slim too of course.)

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@JakeTPE: Haha thanks so much man! Def tried to help, I had that mix of injuries and rough matchups that can catch anyone.

Appreciate it a ton, and hopefully I can indirectly help win some titles!

  5. Dante Green says:
    (link)

Remember that time when Jimmy Butler was a nobody and then suddenly he became an allstar? Any chance Booker could be like that next season?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Dante Green: Well Booker isn’t quite a “nobody” anymore haha. Tough to fly under the radar as a scorer. Butler was more a tough wing defender that turned into an alpha offensive guy too. He’d need to be way more efficient and get better D stats, but who knows, anything is possible these days!

  6. Ryan says:
    (link)

Well JB, I made it to the finals despite all of the injuries, rest days, and suspensions. Millsap is killing me. I may have to drop him to improve my chances, which sucks because this is a keeper league.

Btw, ya know what the funny thing about Booker’s performance was? Everyone at TD Garden was cheering him on. Everyone except Crowder. It was really noticeable that he was getting pissed off when the crowd cheered Booker on. The only person he should be pissed at is himself for letting him score that much.

I love the way he plays and wish he’d keep his mouth shut and stop crying off the court. The dude dropped 70. It was a historic event and your team won by 10. Any fan would be happy to watch their team win under those circumstances. Hell, I’d rather watch that than a game where my team wins by 30 and shuts down everyone. Where’s the fun in that?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Ryan: Damn, nice work! I had a lot more deaths on that minefield that surviving teams haha.

Damnnnnn, yeah that would be rough to lose Millsap, but flags fly forever!

Yeah it was kinda a mess, turned into an exhibition game by the second half it kinda felt like. Suns don’t care about winning… Agree on Crowder, starting to feel like he’s one of those guys that has to have a hot take opinion on everything… Just play winning basketball!

      • Ryan says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Exactly! You play to the win the game. Nothing else matters so long as I raise that banner. Looks like I’m gonna have to drop Millsap in order to do that given the latest updates.

This is making me think about my keeper situation next year, which I haven’t really given much thought about honestly. Who would your top 3 on this list be? : Conley, Jrue, Middleton, Batum, Dieng

I get 6 keepers, but Westbrook, Gobert, and Lowry are unquestionably my best 3. I’m praying I don’t have to drop Lowry. I’ve been able to hold on so long. Btw, I’m hoping for a UNC vs SC finals. I know you guys have your football rivalry, are folks down there fired up?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Ryan: Yup I think Millsap can go for the title push in redraft. I would probably go Middleton, Batum, Conley, but Jrue is really close. Damn tough to lose Millsap as a keeper too.. Injuries to your core are rough!

Hah yeah that would be cool, we’re fired up for the Heels in the triangle area, thats for sure! UNC/USC isn’t a huge rivalry though, but might become one if it happens!

  7. Beal Parmesean says:
    (link)

Can you explain to me how the NBA does stat corrections? My friend lost to me on a steals stat correction in my yahoo league where I am commish and he’s pissed off, and I don’t know how to explain it to him.

      • Beal Parmesean says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks man. He’s pissed and he thinks I manipulated the game somehow because he also lost last year on a tiebreaker in the finals against me.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Beal Parmesean: Are you the Yahoo stats provider, or the official scorer of the entire NBA? If so, you’re definitely to blame! Haha.

Tell him to look up the impacted player stats on basketball reference and/or other sites, and confirm to him that the official stats are what they are

  8. Not Your Average Joe says:
    (link)

Yo JB! I made the title fight! Now we face the questions for which you are paid the nice bourbon.

(Preface: It’s a 12-team, h2h, 9-cat league. Waivers/adds clear Monday, Wednesday, Friday only and this is the last week. Naturally, any players I add for the rest of the week will come into my roster on Wednesday, Friday, or not at all. I have 3 adds left.)

    1. I added Chandler today because I was down to one SF. T.Ross and J-Rich are both available, in case you think I should swap Chandler out, but J-Rich seems lost eveI know, he’s bn with a ton of minutes, and I’m not sold on this T-Ross surge yet. Could be Green being absent, or could also be they played really crappy defensive teams last week, like DET and PHI.

    2. The bigger question of course is wth do I do about Millsap if he doesn’t play tomorrow? IF I hold on to Millsap I should probably drop Holmes. I have a roster overflow problem of too many guys going and too many PF/Cs all playing on Wednesday and Friday. Whichever one of Millsap or Holmes I drop I’d aim to use my adds to have E.Gordon or McDaniels play for me on Thursday, and then drop him to have Ross or McDaniels play for me on Saturday. If I drop Millsap I will not get him back so I don’t want to do that if there’s a good chance he’ll play this week. But I obv. don’t want to drop Holmes only to realize Millsap’s not going to play, or is going to be a rusty shot bucket when he does. But neither do I want to wait until Thursday night to make the decision and lose and possibly miss out on Gordon or McDaniels or whomever on Thursday in what’s sure to be a very tight week. Argh. So what do I do?

    Team: Walker (PG), Conley (PG), Lin (PG/SG), Beal (SG), W.Chandler (SG/SF/PF), A.Gordon (SF/PF), Millsap (PF/C), Holmes (PF/C), Jokic (PF/C), Zingis (PF/C), Gobert (PF/C)

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Not Your Average Joe: Hell yeah man! Well, this year we’ve continued to grow, we used to have bottom shelf bourbon, right now it’s the mid-shelf borbon haha. Something a little better than Aristocrat 🙂

      1. Leaning the latter for Ross, don’t trust him over Chandler at all, I like your add there.

      2. Against the Suns… Man I doubt we see him play. Remind me if Millsap can be a keeper for you…? I think I would stream it. might not see Millsap until the weekend, or maybe even later

      • Not Your Average Joe says:
        (link)

        @JB Gilpin:

Millsap is not a keeper at all. I didn’t cut him last night because if he turned out to be able to play, then my opponent, who has more FAAB left than me, could have picked him up on Friday for the weekend games. Worse than losing a Millsap game while he sits would have been dropping him only for my opponent to use him against me. But if I drop Millsap tomorrow night, he’s hitting the waiver wire for the rest of the season.

Alright, I don’t anticipate him playing tomorrow. But if there’s no encouraging news signaling an imminent return, I’m going to stream the spot.

        • JB Gilpin

          (link)

@Not Your Average Joe: Gotcha, yeah that makes sense.

Millsap already ruled out. Very safe to drop

  9. Not Your Average Joe says:
    (link)

If I’m being greedy – and it’s the last week so why not! – who makes for a better Thursday night play?

    E.Gordon @ POR?
    Rondo vs CLE?
    R-Jax vs BKN?
    McDaniels @DET?

  10. Shahed says:
    (link)

Hey JB, my Blazers look like we might make the playoffs, just looked over the schedule, we play Nuggets 29th, big game, still got to play Rockets, Jazz twice, Spurs and finish with Pelicans. Nuggets got to play Rockets, Pelcians twice and Thunder twice. This should be a nice finish!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

That is awesome! And Nurkic killing it! We’re 12-5 since the all star break with wins over OKC, Spurs and Heat.

@Shahed: OK, my last active team, I’ve decided to drop JJ Redick, and stream his position. Picked up T Prince for the back to back. Also available was Iguodala, Shawn Long, MKG and Belinelli, all of whom have back to backs. Do you think I made the right choice, I want points and steals, and maybe 3s but with good FG%. I was looking at Iggy, with D’Antoni effect, but was worried about SNAP, they play Houston then San Antonio.

I had the mojo going the last few weeks plus 5 game Clipper Magic on my side. I’m not feeling confident this week vs Greg but anything can happen right? Also knocked off the #1 in my RCL as a #4 too and don’t feel it in that league either because i own 2 clippers and 2 Blazers in that league lmfao. 3 game weeks are back breakers.

    • JB Gilpin

@Bye Felica: Yeah you’re telling me. If I have 5 OKC games and you have 3 Clippers games, it might have been a different story. You had a mad tough team to beat though, nice work!

    Razzup, JB?!
3 games from A.Bradley or 4 from Lou Will in this final week? Bearing in mind Rhyno`s injury, as well as (to a lesser extent) Bradley`s stomach bug issues, think I`m leaning towards Sweet Lou. Any thoughts?
    Thanks and regards from Belgrade!

@Nukna: Yeah I like Lou too, with the sneaky aspect that Harden’s wrist is an issue, and he may be pass first, and tell Lou to shoot all the 3s haha. Any time, hope its finally warming up there in Belgrade!

Finally got a 3rd point in the 30 point challenge, started listening to the pod at night and missed a bunch of deadlines for picks but it’s good to be back on the board.

Made the finals in the Step Brothers league against Omen, CJ and DeAndre on 3 gamers so here’s hoping my PG frenzy team keeps small ballin.

On the down side, lost out in my money league 4-5 thanks to Rondo, Jamal Crawford and Chrisssss racking up 3s and steals for a team that finished in the bottom of both categories when mine was 2nd in steals. And my March madness bracket had 1 of the elite 8 and none of the 4. All evens out I guess.
