Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

Full disclosure: I’m getting killed in my first two weeks of Fantasy. The reason? I have 3 bench spots, filled by Wilson Chandler, Kobe Bryant and Tobias Harris. Am I dropping any of these guys? Nope. I’m cool, Daddio. Remember, good reader, that being down by a couple points early in the season will hurt, but dropping talented players for stop gaps can spell doom for your season. I’m betting smart money that these guys will kill it when they return, and were I to drop one or more, it leaves me to stream guys, gambling on good performances from players overachieving week-to-week. Dangerous.  But if you like to live on the edge, or you lost Tyson Chandler for 4-6, and are a man of action, not words, then take a look at these fine fantasy finds:

Buy:

Wilson Chandler SG, SF

Denver is a mess right now at the wing. Both Chandler and Danilo Gallinari have started the season on the shelf. But fear not, Mile High-ers! Wilson has said he will be playing in Utah on Monday. He is currently only owned in 55% of the Yahoo universe, and will get all the playing time he can handle. He has a career stat line of only 13/5/2/1/1, with 1 3pt per, but, like I said, that was behind first Melo, then Gallinari. I expect better lines than that.

Gerald Green SG, SF

Goran Dragic went down, and we all know, through adversity comes opportunity. And Gerald Green is the beneficiary of this particular opportunity, and is running with it. In his last two games, he has averaged 16.5 points, along with 4.5 3pts. Cash. And all that while missing half a ring finger on his shooting hand. Unfortunately, Dragic isn’t supposed to be out for long, but Green is worth a look if you need short term help.

Miles Plumlee PF

I don’t know where you could have been in the last week to not have heard all the hype around this cat’s stellar start out the gate, He is a board and point machine! Since I submitted my first buy/sell the day before Halloween, I didn’t include Plumlee, as he had only played one game. Despite the hype, he’s only owned in 60% of Yahoo leagues, so, if my math is right, you have a 40% chance of nabbing him. Hope that is the case.

Steve Blake PG

I know what you’re thinking. This is a bit of a reach. And it is, sorta. But consider this: Steve Nash will play very limited minutes, and rest one of the games in all back-to-backs this season. Blake had 14 points, 2 assists, 3 boards and 4 3pt against the Clippers, and got the start in New Orleans tonight. I’m not saying go get him now, but if you’re in a pinch… And he’s owned in 6% of leagues. You could do worse.

C.J. Miles SG, SF

Miles has been consistent off the bench, and, until last night’s game, Dion Waiters was under-performing. I like the long ball, as anyone who reads me knows, so getting 14 pts, 3 boards, 2 dimes, and 4 3pts  last game is just fine for a fill in, and is worth a look in my book.

Jae Crowder SF

Now this dude is interesting. Don’t go get him just yet, unless you’re in a 14-16 team league and have the space to stash him. Vince Carter got ejected from the game last night against the Thunder, and Jae capitalized , going for 17 pts, 3 3pts, 3 boards, 2 steals. And the game prior, he came of the bench to get 18 pts, 4 3pts, 4 boards. He’s buried behind Marion, Carter, and Nowitzki, but should any of those 3 get hurt, he will get playing time.

Dejuan Blair PF, C

He’s averaging 9.5 points, 7.8 boards, and 2.8 steals per game, off the bench in 20 or so minutes. The steals are nice from a big, but he only has .8 blocks per game, which is underwhelming. He’s only owned in 10% of leagues, so he’s a good streaming option.

Sell:

I know that this is a cop out, once again, it’s 5 games into the season, there aren’t any real players you should be dropping. What? Fine! I’ll try to find something!

Tyson Chandler C

The other Chandler. I don’t really think you should drop this dude, but I suppose if you have no space to stash him, do what you gotta do. He will be out for 4-6 weeks, that is a long time, I guess.

Ronny Turiaf C

You didn’t know this, because you don’t own him, but if for some reason you have Turiaf on your bench, ditch him, he’s got a broken elbow. But seriously, if you have him, your team is in trouble.

That’s all for now. May your dunkers dunk, and your shooters splash. Good luck in week 3!

12 tm league w/ super deep rosters….assists and steals weight heavily….I know Rubio will never be a great scorer, but what do y’think about trading Iguidala for Rubio?

    G,G,F,F,C,UTL….I have Lillard,Mayo,Rose,Meeks,Vasquez,Sessions,Burks and a couple more at G.

    Green,Gay,MKG,Dunleavy,Garcia,Caroll,Humphries and Iggy(G/F) at F.

with Rose and Vasquez not providing AST’s its starting to hurt me.

also….is Parsons a good buy low candidate?

    thnks.

MKG and Brandon Knight are staring me down on the waiver wire. Been sitting tight with Stuckey and Beverly as my no 3 & 4 PGs. Is Brandon Knight an upgrade over either of those guys, standard yahoo scoring ?

Should I pick up for MKG in place of any of: W Chandler, Harris or J McGee? Based on the article (which seems spot on), I’m guessing you’ll say to hold on Chandler and Harris? What are your thoughts on McGee’s prospects going forward? He’s killing me- is MKG an upgrade for overall balance (I have a strong core of big men in Ibaka, Cousins, Monroe and Favors).

Just feeling an MKG (relative) breakout- I think he’s extremely underrated given his room to grow this year.

    Your thoughts are appreciated!

    • Clyde Prompto says:
      (link)

@Brian: I’m not an expert, but I thought I’d chime in. I’d lose Stuckey for Knight. I like MKG too, but not enough to drop any of your other guys for him. With Ibaka, Favors and Javale you are more than set on BLK. Maybe package one of them with someone else and try to swing a 2 for 1 that upgrades you somewhere else? Then with your extra roster spot you could snag MKG.

      • Dan A

        Dan A says:

@Clyde Prompto: I like the way you think, fella.

    • Dan A

      Dan A says:
      (link)

@Brian: So Knight will get every opportunity to be the starter for the Bucks, I would drop Stucky for him.
McGee’s future is murky. He has boatloads of potential, skill set wise, but clearly has not impressed his new coach. I would understand the urge to drop him, but there are 76 games left, stash him on the bench for 10 games, if you can, and see where he will be after that.
MKG breakout? I hope so, I like to root for the kid, but he’s still young, and don’t expect the moon just yet.

Rubio is great at those stat lines, as well as the turnover stat. You seem to have an awful lot of guards, but that said, I would be fine with the iggy for another guard. I would also suggest you look into moving one or more guards for a big, like spencer Hawes, who leads all bigs in assists so far, and yes I know it’s early, I’m not saying he will end the season on top, but he will be in the upper end of that stat. Pau Gasol would be another candidate who will dime as well. Good luck.

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Dan A.: I would take parsons over Vasquez on your bench any day, but I wouldn’t pay too much. Houston is still trying to define it’s role player’s roles, IMO, but full disclosure, I’ve inly seen one rockets game this year.

@J b: If you can get that deal, I would get Vucevic for sure.

  5. MC says:

Should I drop Trey Burke? For gaurds I have Rose, Hill, Lowry, Oladipo and Just traded MCW for Monta Ellis (kinda regretting it). Dropping Burke will free up IR which I can put Chandler in and picking up say a Steven Adams who will be better down the road. Thoughts on that? Thanks

    • Dan A

      Dan A says:
      (link)

@MC: You’re covered at Guard, no doubt. Just keep an eye on him, to see when he will be back, there should be a clearer idea on Monday, after he sees a hand specialist. If you drop him, try to snatch him back up closer to the return date

  6. Mike says:
    (link)

Would you drop Redick for Chandler?

    Here’s my team:
Rubio, Ellis, Redick, Lebron, T Harris, Duncan, Valanciunas, Hawes, Gordon, Ibaka, Dragic, Drummond and Jennings

    Thanks

    • Dan A

      Dan A says:
      (link)

@Mike: Hold on to Redick for now. Still to early to know if it’s Orlando Redick waiting to break out, or Bucks Redick breaking hearts.

  7. Pavel says:

pick up wilson chandler or james anderson by dropping reggie jackson, metta world peace, or gerald green?

    • Pavel says:

@Pavel: jk, no wilson chandler left. someone snached him already. but steve adams and blake are available.

      • Dan A

        Dan A says:
        (link)

@Pavel: Depends on your needs. Blake will be start/off the bench streaky.
I would say Steve Adams, dropping the rap artist formerly know as Ron Artest.

  8. forwhomthejoiquebelltolls says:

Jimmy butler is on waivers. Should i drop Gerald Henderson or Faried for him? 9 cat league

    • Dan A

      Dan A says:
      (link)

@forwhomthejoiquebelltolls: Gerald Henderson just killed it against the Raps. Faried? Similar stats, but Boozer is doing well so far, so I don’t know if Butler is as dependable. I say no. Not yet.

  9. hello

someone in my league dropped ariza for some reason. I am in a great place on the waiver wire to get him.

Who would you rather keep for the rest of the season? Vince Carter or Vitor Faverani?

Its a point based H2H league. So, its really about who is gonna be the better player.

    Thanks !

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@James Naismith: If you’re going for Ariza, I would keep Faverani, as Vince will get you similar stats.

    Great blog man!

Wanted to get your thoughts on some of these trades I have whirling around in my head.

First off I’m great in every cat except blocks. Bigs are cousins, al jeffo, pau.

    1. I give Kemba and Redick for Lillard (if they even go for it)

    2. I give pau and redick for Ibaka (again if they go for it)

    3. How low is the buy low bar for Sanders? I feel he could single handedly win me blocks in certain weeks….I don’t know if giving up pau would be a good idea.

    Thanks!

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Razbery: If you get either 1 or 2, amazing. I wouldn’t do either of those trades, I mean giving up Ibaka or Lillard, but hey, like Lloyd said in Dumb and Dumber: You’re saying there’s a chance!
      3. Sanders for Pau? It seems a fair offer, maybe not enough from your end, even. He has been terribly under-performing thus far, and is injured currently, but back soon, as in days, not weeks. Last year he was spectacular in the second half, maybe he just starts slow, but his trajectory is sloping up, while Pau is on the descent. Hope either he or Ibaka work out for you.

  11. John says:
    (link)

What do you think of Patrick Beverly? Will he be the starting PG for rockets or it depends on his and Lin’s performance night in and night out? Is Calderon worth as 2nd or 3rd string PG? I do like his 3PM and low turnover. I still have Al Jeff, Ilyasova and Tobias Harris. I don’t know when will they start playing but I want to hold to them for now. Any news for Omer Asik changing his address? Thanks.

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@John: I like Patrick Beverly, but he and Lin will platoon for the foreseeable future, IMO.
I think Calderon is highly underrated, he is clearly not an elite PG, but I predict, in 10-20 games, when he is in synch with his new squad, he will be top 5 to 8 in assists, dependable 3pts, and amazing FT%. and best assist to turnover ratio. But don’t pay too much for him.
I think Al Jeff is close, Ilyasova didn’t play last game, but was supposed to, so he is any game now. Tobias, unfortunately, is still a few weeks away.
And I haven’t heard of Asik being moved, for the time being.

  12. Matt P says:
    (link)

So I tried buying low on DRose and pulled it off, I gave up Favors and Kemba for Rose and Joe Johnson, who I’ll drop for Tobias Harris.

I still have Drummond, Amir, Horford, Millsap, Markieff, and Henson at PF/C after the trade but still it was kind of a steep price, especially considering Favors ceiling. Think I overpaid?

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Matt P: No guarantees in life, but I love D Rose. Even if he only comes back to 80%, he’s still bette than Favors, IMO.

  13. Brendan says:
    (link)

Are these players safe to drop – Anthony Bennett, Reggie Jackson, and Maurice Harkless. If so, which three players should I pick up? I’m in need of a Center and Shooting Guard. Here’s who I have my eyes on:

    Jarrett Jack
    Corey Brewer
    Alec Burks
    Andrea Bargnani
Markieff Morris (not in desperate need of a PF but he’s on fire)
Patrick Beverley (already have three top-10 PG though)

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Brendan: Bennet a long term project, unlikely of a break out this season. I like Beverly the most out of that list for dependability, but Morris’ numbers hard to argue. Just be prepared for the return to earth, which may occur.

  14. Kobefan says:
    (link)

In a really tough situation right now. Both Tobias and wilson chandler available to add but i just picked up Beverley for bargnani and my team is pretty stacked for this 10 man league. Should i drop anyone for those two hot injured stars. I have kobe, IT2, hawes, Tristan Thompson, westbrook, harden, plumlee, marion, favors, gortat, valanciunas, Jennings, harden, deron williams.

    • Kobefan says:
      (link)

@Kobefan: whoops and last player as beverley

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Kobefan: Harden so nice you named him twice! I would too if I owned him. Don’t drop anyone, you are stacked.

  15. Aj says:
    (link)

Who you rather have ROS? Jarret jack or Jimmy butler? Jack just had a nice game and minutes may increase and jimmy has been so so .. Thanks

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Aj: Jack has always earned more minutes the longer he is on a team. Just a gut feeling, but I would say Jack.

  16. JJ says:
    (link)

In a 10 team league (H2H, 9 Cat) and my team is ballin right now.

MCW, George, Shumpert, Plumlee, Johnson, Millsap, Parker, Deng, Lowry, Rose, Sanders, Drummond, Pachulia

patiently waiting on Sanders, but is it safe to drop Shumpert for any of these guys?

Corey Brewer, Beverley, MKG, G. Green, Markieff Morris, Bradley, Bargnani

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@JJ: Morris, maybe? The lack of bigs in New York make Shump valuable, though. If you’re balling, stay with the squad that got you there, no?

  17. Pavel says:
    (link)

aye love all thehelp. check this trade i got offered in a dynasty league (12 team, h2h, standard categories)
    My: Harrison Barnes, Jeff Green
    For His: Goran Dragic/Eric Gordon

    pg: lawson/rondo/farmar/foye
    sg:kobe/gerald green/james anderson

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Pavel: Hmm. I like Jeff Green, and they’re building a team around him, for now. Conversely, I’m not big on E. Gordon, he has not lived up to his Clippers days yet. If it were my team, I’d say no, but I see that you’re light on PG for now, until Rondo comes back, so I understand if you feel the need to pull the trigger.

  18. Steve Stevenson says:

H2H pts, at a games played disadvantage this week. Need 2 F, basically just to stream unless you think any of them stand out ROS:

    Casspi (v Tor, @ Phi, @ NY, v Den)
    W. Johnson (v NO, @ Den, v Mem, v Det)
Hansbrough (@ Hou, @ Mem, v Chi, Por)
    Carroll (@ Cha, v NY, v Phi, @ NY)

So far in our format, they rank as follows in fantasy ppg: Johnson (33 ppg), Carroll (31), Hansbrough (29), Casspi (26.5).

    • Steve Stevenson says:
      (link)

@Steve Stevenson: Or CJ Miles (@ Chi, @ Min, v Cha, @ Was) (31.5 ppg)

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:

@Steve Stevenson: I would say Hansborough first, Casspi second.

  19. HansC says:

    Thanks for the post.
Is Markieff Morris worth picking up while dropping Patrick Beverly?

I’m pretty packed in PGs so…

    10 Team HTH
    G: Westbrook, Wall, D Green, G Hill, P Beverly, T Lawson
F: G Henderson, Jeff Green, DeRozan
    C: Hibbert, Valanciunas, M Gasol

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@HansC: I like your squad so far. Morris for Beverly could be done , but if you stand pay, you’re in great shape too.

  20. John says:
    (link)

I’m playing ROTO 9 Cat league on a weekly basis. I need some help in FG%, rebs, and blocks. I got two options for third week: Jonas Valanciunas and Al Jefferson. Both of them will play 4 games. I think Jonas will see increase in minutes because the opponents (Hou, Mem, Chi, Por) will play big lineups (except Por) but he’ll see tough matchups. For the case of Big Al, he has weaker matchups (Atl, Bos, Cle, Mia) but his ankle is still a concern and missing 3-4 games for this week will be huge for me. Your thoughts?

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@John: JV. All the way. Al Jeff is injured, and will be brought back slowly.

  21. John says:
    (link)

Is Steve Blake worth picking up?

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@John: depends. Are you weak in PG? Then yes. Not as a utility guy, or at the cost of dropping someone productive.

      • Dan A

        Dan A says:
        (link)

@Dan A.: so now with the annoucement of Nash being out for 2+ weeks, Blake’s value has shot way up.

  22. Anthony says:
    (link)

My Beal and Pekovic for Hibbert and Mayo? I really want Hibbert’s $2 keeper tag in our deep keeper league…(Beal is $32). Do I lose bad? Thanks!

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Anthony: Hibbert is a beast, was averaging 5 blocks for a while, until last Friday, I believe. Mayo for beal is where you lose, but thinking long term, it’s not terrible.

  23. hamtime says:

pau gasol has been extremely frustrating. trying to unload him, but don’t want to sell too low. Advice on the following trade proposals, and what is he worth currently:

    b) pau for westbrook (struggling as well)

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:

@hamtime: definitely try for Westbrook. Much more upside.

  24. hamtime says:
    (link)

    who won this trade:

marc gasol + plumlee for hawes+drummond

also, are steve adams and henson worth a stash after their recent duds?

@anthony – yes, steve blake definitely worth a pickup with nash ailing

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@hamtime: hmm. Based in the stats through 7 games, you have to say the cat who got Hawes and Drummond. But gasol has been a fantasy beast for a few years now, so at the end of the season, I would predict that gasol/plumlee will win out. But it’s just a guess.

  25. hamtime says:

Blair is a classic streaming option. . So is Smith, so go the hot player.

    • Frank White says:
      (link)

whos the hot player to you??? Smith??

  29. John says:
    (link)

9 Cat Roto on a weekly basis. I’m at the bottom of FG, turns and blocks. Well, since Al Jeff is back, I’m hoping he can address 2 of my 3 problems. But since he has a bum ankle, I’m thinking of sending him off together with either Ilyasova or Tobias Harris for Lillard. Once I got Lillard, I’m sending Westbrook or Wade off to a shot blocker. Am I giving up too early for Westbrook? I don’t think his % and turns will go down. Your thoughts?

    my other options will be:
    b. Wade + Al Jeff for Bosh + Lillard
    c. Westbrook + Al Jeff for Bosh + Lillard
    d. Westbrook/Wade for Lillard

    Thanks a lot.

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@John: Westbrook plays at a hundred miles a minute, which will result in higher turnovers than other point guards, which is the bad news. His points and assists will be high as well, which is the good news. Just be aware of where your strength in other categories come from, don’t want to trade the guys that are helping you lead in points and 3pts, for example, to move up a bit in blocks.

Of all the options you provide, I like B best.

  30. John says:
    (link)

Lillard’s turnover is superb. But slowly it is increasing. Do you think Lillard will maitain TOs aroun 1.5-2.5?

    • Dan A

      Dan A says:
      (link)

@John: Lillard’s turnovers are hard to predict with accuracy, because he is only a second year player, so little history at the NBA level. Ass covering aside, I personally predict he won’t rise to the Westbrook/Rose level of 4.5 per. And even if he gets to 3-3.5, he’s still amazing. I would keep him if I own him, and pursue him if you can get him for a reasonable price.

  31. John says:

9 CAT roto. Who is a better fantasy player, Ibaka or Howard? Is Wade-Ilyasova too much for Ibaka or Howard?
