L-Tryptophan. The chemical compound found in Turkey that makes you sleepy. I am chock full of it, and I imagine more than a few of you gentle readers are as well. So lets make this the last holiday installment of the Buy/Sell before we head back to the couch for a little nappy. There are a few players, however, that might make you excited enough to chug the sluggish, gravy laden blood through your arteries, and wake you up to your regular, effervescent self. Cause if these cats don’t do it for you, you are officially in a catatonic state, fantasy-wise:

Buy:

D.J. Augustin PG

Cut by the Raptors, where he stunk, quite frankly, and resurrected up off the garbage heap by the Bulls, DJ has been scratching up the tracks! Sorry, Typtophan, remember? Seriously, he has been a pleasant surprise, and only 22% owned. Kirk Hinrich is back, but he has been an injury risk all season, and even so, DJ will get 20 plus minutes a game, with the chance to start any game to come, with Kirk liable to go down any moment.

Terrance Ross SG, SF

Ross has been given the start in Toronto, and has been killing it. They just knocked off the Pacers, a game where TRoss went 18/4/2/3/0 with 2 3pts. And 19% owned. So go out and get him Eh? Aboot.

Taj Gibson PF, C

Yes, I watched a few Bulls games. Which isn’t easy these days. But one of the few bright spots has been our hero Taj, who has been scorching hot the last 4 games. 13.4/5.4/2.3/.5/1.5 shooting 61%. Not too shabby, and only 32% owned.

Andre Blatche PF, C

Anyone who reads my brainfart articles will know I’ve recommended Dre before, when Brook Lopez went down last time, and it made me sick to do so. But he killed it the last stint, and Lopez is out again for the rest of the season. So, I’m prepared to ralph up yams, ham, gravy and bird, and tell you to go grab Blatche. He’s only 44% owned. He hasn’t played well thus far for the Nets, but he is a must own, IMO, and has the ability to stack the statsheet. It’s just that he’s such a douchey dude.

James Johnson SF, PF

I’m putting this in as a speculative add. James is a freak athlete, with decent defensive insitincts. He will get swats and boards, and some points. That said, the Grizzlies signed him from his stint in the NBADL, so take that into account. He has shined for the Bulls, the Raptors, and the Kings, all of whom have either traded or cut him, and now the Grizzlies have him. But he put up a triple per, 9/5/1.7/1.7/1.25 with 1.5 treys over the past 4 games. So if you need blocks and steals, with a smattering of other production, you could do worse.

Jose Calderon PG

This is another Buy low recommendation, that, full disclosure, JB has already mentioned, but I concur. He’s shooting a blistering 50% from beyond the stripe, and splashing 3.5 per over the last 4 games, to go along with 15/3.75/5.75/1.25/.25 with .5 turnovers. He isn’t getting dimes he once did because Monta Ellis is handling the rock a lot more, but that assist-to turnover is sick! You might get lucky and his owner may be frustrated with him, his first 6 weeks were… meh. Don’t say I didn’t get you anything for the holidays.

Elton Brand PF, C

Don’t buy him yet, but if DeMarre Carroll is out for any length of time on top of the Al Horford injury, Brand would be my bet to get huge big man minutes on the Hawks, and worth a look in deeper leagues.

Sell:

Brook Lopez C

This comes as no surprise, but there is speculation that he may be back before the year’s end. I say no, and don’t hold him for that long. I know, not exactly ground breaking reporting here, but you should just be happy I’m even writing anything at all.

Jon Leuer C

He has had several quiet games in a row. Don’t ride it out with him, if he gets hot again, he’ll be there on the waiver for you, in all likelihood.

Aaron Brooks PG

I know I said to pick him up last week, but Jeremy Lin came back sooner than I thought, and he got injured last game.  It looks not serious, but unfortunately Lin was very good, so that could spell doom for Brooks’ fantasy relevance.

That’s all I can come up with for now, kids. Play safe, and remember to be kind to your fellow man, for at least the next 24-48 hours, if you can manage to stay in the spirit of the season.

One final Note: I will be away on Vacation in Sunny Cancun for 2 weeks, so I will try to answer all the comments, but I may be too drunk, no wifi signal or too drunk. so bear with me.

Feliz Navidad!

What sort of offer do you like here? I am in need of FG%/AST/STL/TO. They are looking for a scorer. Something like DeRozan for Calderon?

Rubio is getting more AST and STL but has a worse FG% and TO than Calderon the past couple of weeks.

    Me:
Lillard Beal Harden Iggy Ibaka Favors Hibbert Valanciunas Jo Crawford DeRozan BN – Kwahi Pekovic Nelson

    Them:
Burke Ariza Meeks Lebron Parsons Jo.Smith Varejao A.Johnson Calderon Millsap BN – Rubio Wade R.Jackson

@1 Pt in Week 9: I would sooner trade beal than DD for Calderon. Demar has been baby smooth lately.
Also, you could likely get Amir for a low price right now, he’s been in a 4-5 game slump, but for what it’s worth, I believe he will come out soon, and be all sexy again. But that is purely based on my man-crush on Johnson, and his hard hat, blue collar motor.

Thoughts on trying to trade Beal for Calderon, and then dropping Crawford for one of those (Crawford a 3 TOpg guy inspite of how he’s playing)? Or do you wait until a definate Rondo date/trade outcome before you consider dropping Crawford?

Hey Dan. Happy new year’s man.

What do you think about my dwight howard and bledsoe (or favors instead?) for ryan anderson? Sounds to me like a little much. But dwight is ranked a round 10 value according to basketball monster! it’s killing me that dwight is untradeable/too good to drop.

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Kevin: that’s rich. Bled and Howard/favors? I wouldn’t. If it’s favors and Howard, it’s more palatable, but still not cheap.

      • Kevin says:
        (link)

Hey Dan. @Dan A.: So good thing I didn’t go through with the high price for anderson!

  4. Adam says:
    (link)

Happy New Year Dan! Thanks for keeping this updated so regularly.

Would you trade J.R. Smith straight up for Thaddeus Young right now? Part of me thinks J.R. is at his low point and that Thad is at his high point, but I’m not sure how it will play out in a few weeks/months.

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Adam: if you’re in a sleeper league, and JR is one of those keepers, then yes, I see your point. But is Thad playing at his high point, soon to sink back down again, or is he evolving now that the team has been revamped? No, really, I’m Asking you, because I’m not sure. What I am confidant in, however, is that the Knicks are a mess, and I see no end in sight. So I would think the trade is worth taking, a risk/reward thing.

@manosun16: I would. I picked up Ross last weekend, and he has been dy-no-mite! I hope he continues to be for you.

  6. Two trades I’m thinking about
    1) I trade Ant Davis and teletovic for wall and favors

2). Trade Davis for wall and Horford. Keeper auction league and horfords value is at $11. A steal for an elite big man.

Any thoughts. I’m currently 3rd in a 12 team h2h 8 cat league. 3 games out of first

    My team is:
    Westbrook, Rubio, Bledsoe, knight
Chandler, Hayward, harden, jimmy butler, Greek alphabet
Davis, Ibaka, teletovic , t. jones, Blanche.

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Derrick Yu: I really like Davis. I see your point about stashing horford, but if you’re in 3rd, think about now, not next year first. Could you do Ibaka for wall straight up?

      • @Dan A.:

Never thought about trading Ibaka for wall. Nice idea, do you think I should do a 2 for 2. Ask for favors back and offer say Bledsoe?

        • Dan A

          Dan A. says:

  7. MC says:

Blatche is available in my league (H2H pts) should I drop Tobias Harrris for him? Im thinking he can rack up double-doubles for me and be more productive than Harris and that crowded Orl frontcourt

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@MC: he could definitely produce. But is Harris the only drop? True, it’s crowded in Orlando, but he has such mad upside.

      (link)

@I love lamp: hmm. I’m away, so hard to check stats. But off of gut? Khris and ridnour?

  10. Kevin says:
    (link)

Hey again. Who would you rather pick up on the waiver? iman shumpert or terrence ross? I need a quick pick up for points just to finish off for the week.

I feel like shumpert is getting the green light to showcase for a trade. which could be a good thing! but i think terrence ross looks like he has more chemistry and open looks with the raptors.

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

      @Kevin: Ross for sure.

Traded for Calderon and that goes through Tuesday

    Ross,Reddick,Markief Morris,Belinelli,T.Gibson,Augustin,Blatche,
Brewer,James.Johnson,D.Green,Collison and Teletovic are some names available on the WW

Do you drop Crawford for any of them? FG%/TO/AST/STL were issues pre trade. Or do you wait another week until something more definate on Rondo before dropping Crawford.

Anything else glaring you see that needs to be worked on in trade/ww?

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@Jay: I would consider dropping for either Ross or blatche, depending on what your current need are. But staying pat is just fine too. Based on blatche’s history last injury fill in, he was very productive. And Ross has shined last 5 games. So decide if you need a change of scenery, and if so, pluck one of Those two flowers.

      • Jay says:
        (link)

        @Dan A.:

Well my needs pre trade were FG%/AST/STL/TO. The trade doesn’t go through until Tuesday, so really hard fo me to say where I will be in those categories once I get Calderon.

Crawford can get assists but Rondo looming, killing me in TO, and has nights like last night where he <.100 FG%. So i don't know with 4 games (but tough games frim fantasy perspective) next week for boston, if i am better off just holding onto Crawford for another week or making jump on someone now.

        • Dan A

          Dan A. says:

@Jay: 4 games , hold for this week.

  15. Waylander says:

Chris Paul owner offered me Dion Waiters for my Darren Collinson.
    Its a 10 team 17 players rostered.

I have Lillard , Kendall Marshall, Trey Burke, Ty Lawson, Deron Williams and Jeff Teague already . Should I wait and see how Collinson is playing and ask for more then or should I settle with what I;’m getting now ?

    Thanks!

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

      @Waylander: hold collision for now.

  16. Frank White says:
    (link)

Sup Dan… Would you take Collison over Terrance Jone or JJ Hickson??

    • Frank White
Ive had Hickson all year and he’s been very consistent as far as scoring, rebounds and blocks if you need 10 and 10 every night Hickson is the guy. Plus Brian Shaw has commited more playing time to Hickson as the nuggets bench will likley not be getting as many miniutes as it recently has.

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:

@Frank White: I would want Hickson. Just me, but he has been solid for 15+ games.

would u trade irving for wall?
with irving and his injs.. yes he can score wit the best but I love steals/blocks.. if irving is rocking 30/5/6 its great but i might rather have rubios 9/13/10 game even with this bad shooting.. Im dont play the FG% stat heavy at all

wall seems to want it more.. i dunnno if beal breaks out maybe wash will be the next come and coming team
clev has looked like a joke
    anyways.. its keeper league..

    Love/Davis/Vucevic/Ricky Rubio/Kawhi Leonard/Bosh/Beal/Henderson/Glen D/JJack/Ross/Maron/DeMar DeRozan/west

is my team im currenly in first yet have 5 teams right behind me
Going to make some bigs trades in the off season.. its a 4 keeper league
    I love ricky/Davis combo yet i dunno
side question how of those guys who would u keep for next season( the league is a rebound league) OBoards/Dboards/normal boards lol/ DD’s and TD’s.. no Turn overs
sorry for the novel just rockin a redbull and love ur advice!

@moez: wow . A regular Hemingway, but for sports. I like the detail, thanks for the reads, and the effort don’t be disappointed with the response ;) I like your logic , but Rubio almost never posts that stat lin, to be fair. Straight up, wall for Kyrie? Totally fair. It comes down to who your prefer, I guess. I like kyrie, a lot. But, wall has been steadily moving to elite status this year. So pick your poison.

    How does my team look?

PG – Curry (SG), Bledsoe (SG), Conley, IT2
SG – Kawhi (SF), D.Green (SF), Henderson (SF)
    SF – T.Jones (SF)
PF – Nowitzki (C), Millsap, Kieff Morris (C)
C – Valanciunas, Henson (PF), Brendan Wright (PF)

Currently want to improve lead. I’m No. 1 in my league. Looking at either trading Bledsoe/Conley/Nowitzki.

Bledsoe is kind of injury prone. Memphis is a mess (will probably hold but they are a mess…) Nowitzki is old.

Kind of looking at Nowitzki +Bledsoe for Unibro + Wes Matthews/Derozan.

    Keeper question for you all.

I’m in a league where we keep five (one at each position) and the salary cap is $120 (no rollover for unused funds). The only guy I feel like I need to keep is Curry at $25. I’m leaning also toward keeping Lance Stephenson for $1 and Thad Young for $15. The question is what to do with the other two positions.

It comes down to Nowitzki for $33 or Marc Gasol for $48.

And then, the more difficult question, which one of these:
    Ariza for $10
    Jimmy Butler for $10
    Wilson Chandler for $5
    John Henson for $10

A second option would be to leave out Lance Stephenson and do this:

    PG Lawson @ $18
    SG Curry @ $25
    SF T Young @ $15
    PF Nowitzski @ $33
    C J Henson @ $10

    Thoughts?

    • frankiejay says:
      (link)

@frankiejay: I should say: players can be kept as long as we want. Salaries go up $5 each year.

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:
      (link)

@frankiejay: I would think about keeping Henson over the other 3, for upside potential. But I like the curry/lance/Thad/dirk/Marc as well. Although I might even keep Henson over dirk, due to age.

      • frankiejay says:
        (link)

@Dan A.: Sadly I can’t do the curry/lance/thad/dirk/marc lineup because it puts me a couple $ over the cap. So, perhaps I’ll plan on curry/lance (or lawson)/thad/henson/marc for now.

@Tony Donaldson: I might thinks about strengthening your wing by parleying your glut of points. But solid team.

My Howard and Tobias Harris for Marion and Hawes. Should I accept?

@Fantasy Newb: Or my Howard and Lillard for Chris Paul and Al Jefferson

@Fantasy Newb: I wouldn’t do either. Don’t give Lillard up cheaply. Paul is a blue chip, but out for 6 weeks, a killer.

If Ryan Anderson is out for a while, who would you be picking up?

@TestTickles: if Ross is available , try him.

I’m currently smack in the middle (5th) in a 10 team h2h, 9 cat league and was wondering for your opinion. I
‘m usually scouring the wire but want to be more consistent. Going to pick up Jones tomorrow night since Rockets had a few nights with no games.

PG – D. Collison, Irving (SG)
SG /SF– Stephenson, Turner, Korver, Batum, W. Chandler, Iggy
    PF – Nowitzki (C), G. Davis (C)
    C – Valanciunas

    Thanks Dan!

@Jenny: I’m big on Ross right now, ride him while he’s producing. If Henson is available while he’s injured, he’s a good stash, big baby is inconsistent, so he’s a possible drop.

        @Dan A.:
        Thanks Dan!
Both Ross/Henson are both unfortunately unavailable.
I’m looking to trade with another team (unloading some sg/sf and getting a big if I’m dropping big baby).
He has: Paul Millsap, Serge Ibaka, Andre Drummond, Luo Deng, Joakim Noah, Teague, P. George, K. Martin, K. Humphries, E. Bledsoe, I. Thomas, T. Lawson.

He also put Noah on the trading block. Thoughts?

@Jenny: I would go for Ibaka or Noah. Turner for Noah should be a fair offer, IMO.

Sup Dan the Man!! Corny right.. LOL.., I I’m in a H2H 10 team 9 CAT. Right now I’be been falling offa bit, just players in a slump and having no luck in waiver picks like hicHixson then just picked Taj so I hope he works our but have to many guys I dropped that started blowing up like pierce but anyway I have injuries like Marc Gasol and Eric Bledsoe but the thing it’s I’m still in first place so if I lose bad a couple weeks is not the biggest deal in the world but I know the last thing I need is another injury but I felt like I had to take this deal and I hope you like it. I traded jameer Nelson for Rojan Rondo. From what I hear he’s been dying to play and he’s starting the D league but since w within the month I should have all 3 of these players active.. stupid move or great move??

@Frank White: the rondo for Jameer is a great love if you can ride out the interim. You gave a late mid round position player for a potential early round guy, always smart, so long as rondo comes back to what he was, or close to it.

      • Frank White says:

But I just found out Rondo only averages 11 points a couple Reb ,7 ass, 0.9 – 3’s and ft% around 650% !!! I’m so pissed. I can get a guy like that off the wire any day or better. Why is he an early round value with such bad numbers?? Jameer does better then that and he didn’t even make our draft

@Frank White: your facts are wrong. He is the best rebounding PG in the league. He gets triple doubles from boards, points, and assists. He shoots poorly, but dishes at a high rate. He may take more than this season to recover to his former self, but he is a stud.

K cool. Yeah I just googled his stats, I knew something was wrong. 1 Do you think he’ll be back this month? 2 do you think picking up Dunleavy was a good pickup, meaning you think he’ll year it up with the extra minutes 3 I wanna pick Henson but like I said i got some injuries. They said he should be back at the end of the week. Would you pick him up and drop Taj or Marion or just wait and see??

            • Dan A

              (link)

              @Frank White: 1) no idea.
              2) dunleavy has played well. More minutes should equate more production.
              3) Henson is a good pick-up. You’re in first, you can afford a few games of non-100% production.
All just my opinion. You’ve been in first 2 years in a row, trust your instincts.
              Holla!

Sup Man.. Do you think I should offer David West and Tristan Thompson for Deng and Henson??

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:

@Frank White: not a bad offer. Maybe just west for Henson?

  36. Frank White says:

Dude what’s up… I already have Marc Gasol, Rondo, Bledsoe and Reddick out. I just found out that Bledsoe needs surgery and I’m about to lose my mind. What do I do, grab Ish Smith, Christmas, Goodwin or do I grab a guy like Randy Foye, or CJ Miles??

    • Dan A

@Frank White: JJ about to come back, don’t grab anyone you mentioned.

Hey Danny what’s up.. I picked up Dunleavy cause they said he was gonna start since Deng is gone but I just found out that the Bulls are about to trade Henrich and they said Augustin would take his starting job.. Anyway, would you rather have Augustin or Dunleavy??

    • Dan A

      Dan A. says:

      @Frank White: dunleavy for now.
