Unbelievable. So LeBron signs with the owner that called him a “coward” and the fans who called him far far worse. As a Miami Heat fan I won’t call him names or berate him in any way when he plays against us. He’s decided his legacy will be that of a journeyman. OK, that’s his choice. Do I think he will win a ring in Cleveland? I’m not sure. I do think there’s a reason Cleveland has had the number 1 pick for 3 out of the last 4 years. Will I root for him to win? Obviously not.

For fantasy… Everyone else in Cleveland moves way down the rankings, especially Kyrie, and Wiggins is no longer in the top 150 and probably doesn’t make the cut for top 10 rookies. At least he should be cheaper in the REL. I assume Cleveland has more moves to make since their “bigs” consistent of Tristan, Bennett, and Varejao?

    BTW… I have a photoshop idea…

@Slim: Haha I was leaning more and more he was going back. Kept making sense. I’m still ambivalent about LeBron and hope he stays in CLE rest of his career. He has to or else he’ll really get that journeyman label haha.

Agree. Wiggins prob has to be moved. Overhaul time!

      Sure, what is it?!

Rough start for Vonleh. 0/13 FGs, 0/4 3s, 0/2 FTs. Do we have another Anthony Bennett on our hands? <– Sarcasm.

    Hairston going 2/16 FGs, 1/10 3s. 1 board, 0 assists and steals in 30 min. A little too ThrAGNoF-y.

The big game last night was Cavs v Bucks, Wiggins v Parker. They both did exactly what they were supposed to. Parker obviously is the heavy favorite for Rookie of the year now but I don't think he's going to be the best player on his team. I am going to be all in on Antetok this year. He looks like a star. I have a feeling I'm going to try to squeeze him into the top 50, top 60. Somewhere around there. Oh and the aforementioned Bennett, he's not bad at filling up the stat sheet but 8 fouls in 30 minutes, in summer league… that needs to get better if he wants to overtake Tristan's minutes.

What else… Timmy Jr was his usual ThrAGNoF self. I thought Cleanthony looked good but I need more stats out of him. It looks like both might luck into pretty good minutes.

McDaniels is nursing an ankle I think so he didn't play but Hollis Thompson has looked pretty good, really filling up the stat sheet nicely. He's moving up into top 150-200 territory, especially with James Anderson given his pink slip and the eventual departure for Thaddeus Young. Jerami Grant has shown some steady improvement. I imagine he could be a sneaky $1 REL draft pick.

    I guess there's FA stuff too…

It's looking like Pau Gasol to Bulls. Sucks to be Taj Gibson.

So with that Melo goes back to NY with absolutely no supporting cast. There's going to be some fantasy goodness I would imagine from somewhere but this means for me that Melo is unquestionably a 1st rounder in a 12er and capable of matching last years numbers.

IT2 to the Suns? Wow. Probably takes a little from Bledsoe and Dragic. Sadly, IT2 has fallen pretty far in the rankings now.

Vince Carter to the Grizz. Err… Don't mess with my Jordan Adams minutes. And for your daily Adams update… 5-fer-13/11/3/5/2 with a 3 in 27 bench min. Good. Stay under the radar for as long as possible.

Lin to LA, Nick Young and Jordan Hill back to LA. Young Pass. Hill… We'll see but with Gasol soon to be gone there are plenty of minutes for bigs. Jordan Hill is somewhat interesting since D'Antoni isn't around to play games with his playing time. Lin, umm… good spot for him, could be a decent PG for fantasy. I have him behind the likes of Collison and Elfrid though.

Bazemore to the Hawks. Good for him. Maybe he can carve out enough minutes to be ownable in deep leagues. Maybe.

Bosh back to Miami. Without LeBron Bosh actually moves up a few ticks in the rankings. The efficiency can't possibly remain but more attempts, higher usage means more counting stats.

Fallout in Miami… We'll have to see what they do with all their FA money but I don't see anymore starting PGs available so Napier should be the starter with the ball in his hands quite a bit. I think his stock is rising. Basically everyone is going to get a pretty good boost. About as much as everyone in Cleveland coming down a few ranks.

So the Cavs are saying Wiggins won't be included for Kevin Love. That's the only asset they have that's good enough so no Love for Cleveland. I don't think that's what they needed anyway and does Love really want his career to take the Chris Bosh track? They need a rim protector or LeBron is going to The Hall wearing a Heat Jersey and only 2 rings. Oh and Mike Miller to Cleveland? It's going to be real tough for Wiggins to find any minutes. I imagine he's a little upset that he's going to be a bench warmer for the foreseeable future.

Good enough for now! I expect even more to go down today.

@Slim: Ariza to Rox! Ehhhh, I dunno. Parsons to the Mavs then is a lock. Mmmm, Chandler Parsons.

Yup – looks like Wiggins can be the sixth man. You really don’t think LeBron can get another title? Man, would be a rough end if so… Waiters, Bennett and two first-round picks for a guy that’s not gonna stay? But they’ll be shitty picks…

I’m gonna love Bosh this year. He kinda got slammed during the big 3 years, now can be the star. Shabazz… If he starts yeah just the sheer volume will be there.

Bazemore = blah. Agree on Lin, behind both. Just not consistent enough. Hill… Maybe…

Sucks for Adams man! More scrub depth. Yikes. Sucks for IT2. Bledsoe is the big hit to me after the injuries. Dragic I think plays the big minutes still.

Agree-ish on Melo. 12ish sounds about right. So end of 1st round.

I had Grant as a first rounder, so I’m intrigued with him too. Sixers are just gonna be a black hole at wing though. Just have a feeling.

Hairston… Wow… So disappointing stats-wise and character-wise. Timmay Jr. yup ThrAGNOF McGoo! Vonleh = fine to struggle early. KCP still owning!

Finally, an all CAPS WHOAAAAAAAAAA. Giannis top 50 or 60?! That’s bold my man! Upside is there! But I dunno, in his career, sure, but I dunno about this yr.

      More dominos falling!

@JB Gilpin: Re:Antetok. It’s not that my ranking him that high means he should be drafted that high. What I want is after the top 50 are gone, top 100 or so are gone, Antetok will have been at the top of my list for several rounds and I’ll get tired of passing on him and still take him relatively early.

What if… Antetok gets 33 min/game, with what I believe will be very good improvement I’ll put his stats at about…

        .430/.730/1.0/13.0/6.5/3.5/1.2/1.0/2.0

For the sake of argument if those numbers are spot on where would you rank him? I really think I’m being conservative with those numbers too. There is so much room for more. I really don’t want to miss out.

I think I have an idea for Jabari Parker too (33 min)…

        .450/.750/1.2/16.0/7.5/1.0/0.8/0.8/2.8

Whose stat line do you like better? What do you agree with/disagree with? Parker might shoot a better FG% than that but I expect enough inconsistency to keep it down.

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:

@Slim: Upside is there for sure, especially in like the 90s. Let’s see, I think assists won’t quite be there, but other than that, yeah I think I buy that. Maybe I do need to think more 80s.

Parker – yeah I think he does shoot a little better, but he struggled from the perimeter a smidge a dook. The TO seem a little high too, I’d go 1.5-2 on assists, so I still like Parker. But they’re def closer than they seem. Let’s hope Kidd keeps the minutes consistent!

  5. Tony says:

What’s up JB! I’ve got a difficult position and one I think you’ll find interesting…

So I’m in the fifth year of my keeper league. I have LeBron ($59), Rose ($19), Love ($2), Noah ($5), and Oladipo ($32) as my five keepers. The league is huge man, you start 13 guys and there’s an 8 man bench. Other options I have as keepers are Sanders ($1), Green ($1), and Dieng ($1). Most people are keeping in between $60-$80 in their five..my five are $117.

Now the difficult part.. I was offered Ibaka ($5) and Leonard ($6) for Love….

Instead of LeBron, Rose, Love, Noah and Oladipo at $117,I could have LeBron, Leonard, Rose, Ibaka, and Noah for $94…PLEASE HELP ME! Thanks dude you the bomb!

    • Tony says:
      (link)

@Tony: Crap I forgot to mention, it’s a 12 team, H2H most categories league..so over 120 players are owned each season!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Tony: What’s good man?! Welcome back to hoops! Whewwwww, that’s a pretty good haul for Love given the prices…. What is the yearly inflation? I think I’d have to do it – if he ends up on the Cavs there’s no way he can match his scoring upside. I love Kawhi for long-term too. Thanks man, glad you stopped by!

      • David says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I can’t wait for this season man, owning LeBron is icing on the cake. Yeah there isn’t any inflation either because the league is so active and we have a minimum you have to it in keepers so the drafts aren’t lopsided. You think this is a solid trade???!

        • Tony says:
          (link)

            (link)

@Tony: Haha your phone is trying to change your identity! Yup, I totally buy the trade, while Love might be the best player, you still have a top 2-3 player in LeBron plus Ibaka who I think is a first rounder and Kawhi an end of 2nd rounder. Pretty nasty set of keepers there!

  6. Slim

    Slim says:
    (link)

Yeah I like Parsons on the Mavs too. I expect a hefty raise in Usage Percent so I think his stats improve. Still not a lock to go to Dallas though. Ariza on the Rockets is OK. For fantasy I don’t expect much to change for him. Obviously everyone likes Parsons better but Ariza is cheaper. I’m not sure it really does much to help Houston win a championship.

Waiter, Bennett, and 2 non-lottery picks isn’t going to get Love. Maybe at the deadline if they can’t find any better but certainly not before.

I really am happy for Bosh. He deserves the payday and he deserves to be the 1st option on offense to get some of his lost stats back.

With Ariza gone that means Otto Porter gets a shot right? Wiz sign Paul Pierce… nevermind and I won’t be going anywhere near Pierce on draft day.

Marvin Williams to the Hornets… Meh. Nice payday for him though. Does this mean Kanter is back to being the default starter in Utah? I guess.

    Morrow to Thunder. Bleh.

Looks like Lance Stephenson and Luol Deng are the last big name FAs left. Still quite a few teams with money left to pay them.

Exum looked good, fast, nice handles, but he was non-existent without the ball. He still has a lot to learn especially if he’s not going to play the point. But for a dynasty I would say he looked every bit as expected.

Some notable nights… TJ Warren, Gary Harris, Tony Snell, Shabazz Muhammed. I like what I saw from Adreian Payne although it wasn’t a great night on the stat sheet. Cleanthony Early looked like a solid NBA player again. The three Heat players are making positive strides, Napier, Ennis, and Justin Hamilton, I could see all 3 earning significant roles next year.

That’s it for me. Should be an entertaining World Cup final today.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Slim: WORLD CUP!!!!! Just hope it’s a good game. Or something amazing happens.

Heat in the rebuild… Will be a lot of interesting minutes in the deeper leagues. We’ll have to see how Riley fills out the roster, don’t you guys have a few more signees to bring in?

Exum is pretty nasty, but there will be growing pains. Doubt he’ll fall into my price range but I’m interested.

Starvin Marvin for a different-build PF depth. I like it. We needed some depth and he returns to NC. Roy Williams should be the coach! Well, then Hairston might get into more trouble haha. Hurts Vonleh though. Might make Vonleh a value in REL… We shall see.

Boring wings in DC… Mmmmm, wings…

I think we’ll both be Bosh fans heading into the year. Does top 30 sound too bold? I feel like he should be right at the end of that PG run in my way too early ranks.

If nothing changes on Ariza’s fantasy output from last year, he’s probably gonna be a huge value. His final line was redonkulous and under the radar. HOU was as good a place he could go and he’s another guy I might rank really high. Def top 50. Well, I dunno, not gonna lock that in stone, but probably.

Whewwwwww, lots to cover in the next post. Prob Teus.

      • Slim

        Slim says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Rebuild is kind of a relative thing for the Heat. How they play will change drastically but it’s not the classic rebuild through youth and the draft. Wade and Bosh still want to win now and Deng, McBob and whoever else they bring in aren’t going to be there to be developed.

Richard Jefferson to the Mavs! My dream has finally come true. Please, for the love of all things holy, start Hayward at SF and Burks at SG, like they did to end the year last year. It looks like once again I’m not going to be able to quit on Alec Burks. I’m interested to see what he predraft ranking will be on other sites.

Hinrich back with the Bulls. Kinda rules out Augustin having a meaningful role there as long as Rose is healthy. I’m still interested in where he signs.

Brian Roberts to the Hornets, yawn…

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Slim: Naw, you’re right. They’re still a playoff team and filled out a pretty good roster. If Heat play the Cavs in the playoffs, that’d be awesome. I’d cheer for the Heat, even though I’m indifferent on LeBron.

Watch Richard Jefferson take Chandler Parsons minutes. HAH! Jk.

You and Alec Burks, sitting in a tree! You gonna love him/

Ugh, Hinrich. Yeah, Augustin might get 20ish minutes still, but not good ones. I want none-a-dat.

Brian Roberts proved he can’t be a starting NBA PG, and I argued against it during his run last year. Inconsistent and not a good facilitator.

    #2 Pick, 3-rnd, 14-tm, h2h-pts, dynasty lg, rookie draft…

Who should pick? Wiggins or Randle?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@SydeEye Sally: I’m still going Wiggins. While playing time with LeBron looks grim, he could get traded and even in a lesser role, I think his multi-category prowess will outdo Randle who should be Pts and boarding and that’s about it.

  8. SydeEye Sally says:

Just got offered several picks for my #2….thoughts?

    • Slim

      Slim says:
      (link)

@SydeEye Sally: I’m interested in the offers. It would take 2, 1st round picks though if no players are involved. A 1st and a 2nd isn’t going to be nearly enough.

I’m guessing you’re assuming Parker goes #1. For dynasty I’ve got Exum well ahead of Randle. Randle might, and I stress might, help more now but Exum has all the tools to be a top 25 fantasy player as soon as next year, that would be ’15-’16. I don’t think Randle’s ceiling is even top 50… maybe like right at 50. Between Exum and Wiggins could be pretty close though. Might depend on the rest of your roster. After that Smart at #4 then a pretty big drop off assuming you want to be competitive next year, *whispering* and then Elfrid Payton at #5. Still no Randle for me. This could however be altered by scoring settings.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@SydeEye Sally: I agree, it’d have to be two first round picks and not the guy with the last pick giving the end of the snake. Wiggins has just so much more upside than later picks.

  9. Slim

    Slim says:
    (link)

Da Bullsssss are starting to look like a pretty formidable team. Even if Rose is just a shell of his former self Pau makes the front court significantly better especially since all 3, I’m leaving out Boozer, can play center. Butler is locked into big minutes at one of the wings while Snell, Dunleavy, and McDermott give 3 completely different ways to play the other wing. Hinrich is kind of a boring backup PG and they will probably need another just in case Rose does fall apart again but up and down I think it’s one of the most complete rosters in the league. And certainly the best in the east.

For fantasy I’m worried about everyone of em though. The 3-headed front court is going to hurt each. I expect all 3 to come down from last years numbers. The 3 wings not names Butler are tough to trust because it could very well be a different one with a big game each night. Rose is Rose, as in I won’t take him with any of my 1st 3 picks. So that will probably mean I’ll “miss out” on Rose. That leaves us with the most reliable option for fantasy from the Bulls being Jimmy Butler. I expect to rank him higher than last year. Lower than Hayward but fine I’ll concede after DeRozan.

Your Hornet rookies were better yesterday. I like Vonleh for boards but yesterday was a product of one team shooting 35% and the other shooting 28%. Lots of boards to go around. I would say the over/under on 18 board games during the regular season is 1.5. I’ll take the under. If Big Al misses time Vonleh has the chance to see major playing time. In a 12er redraft I imagine he goes undrafted. Hairston took 13, 3s. OK… I wonder if he knows he’s allowed to pass. Purely speculation on my part but when Hairston was playing pickup at the Y, I imagine the high school senior walked up to him and said something like, “Sweet stroke man, will you teach me how to shoot like that”. Then Hairston takes it personally that some kid is in his face looking to take shots away from PJ. The Pajama Man doesn’t take too kindly to sharing the ball so instead he shared his fist with the high schoolers face.

Randle gets a pass for now but I didn’t see anything I wasn’t expecting.

Stauskas could turn into a pretty sneaky draft pick in a redraft. He should be pretty cheap on draft day, could start, and has maybe Korver type upside.

James Anderson looks painfully slow. I’m not convinced he’s going to be much more than a barely serviceable rotational bench guy.

LaVine is interesting. Looks quick but I think he still has quite a ways to go before he’s going to be fantasy relevant.

Schroeder had a big game but he’s well behind Teague and I imagine behind Mack too. Going to take an injury or trade to make him draftable in a 12er redraft.

You’re probably right about Antetok’s assists. I was planning on him having the ball in his hands much more, his usage rate last year was pretty low. There’s a good highlight from yesterday of Parker trying to dunk on Miles Plumlee and getting rejected by a 2-handed block. Looked good for Plumlee, not so much for Parker.

TJ Warren left early, I’m not too sure why.

So Augustin and Caron Butler to Detroit. Hmph… I don’t know. Jennings has been benched more than once but I don’t think DJ is going to jump him for 30+ minutes. Going to take a pretty deep league to find any value there. I imagine I’ll let him go in the REL. Someone will take him and he’s still a useful $1 backup PG but I’m pretty sure I’m going to have money to burn for more upside plays. Caron was never on anyones radar for fantasy but it’s a good spot for him. I imagine either Monroe or Josh Smith is ready to go now.

Pretty sure I’m going to let Corey Brewer go. Wings are wings are wings are wings and I’m worried Minny could go full rebuild and ship Brewer off to be a backup somewhere. Leaves me with Lillard, Reggie, Burks, Ross, Lurch, Tucker, RKelly, Marcus Morris, and Amir. That’s 9 guys at $95. So $105 left for 8 draft picks (still waiting to see what happens with Adrien, I hope I get to keep him). I think I want to try for 3, top-10 real life draft picks, 5-6 1st rounders. I’m looking at a partial rebuild… my base is pretty young.

That’s it for me today. Adieu.

@Slim: Slo Mo! That legit is Kyle Anderson’s nickname. But gets it done, and is mistake free! Perfect for the Spurs. Perfect $1 buy.

Yikes your team is gonna be nasty. I’m at 9 too now – Knight, Joseph, Kawhi, KCP, Carroll, Middleton, Aldridge, Mike Scott, Ibaka. I think it might actually be a little better :) Butttttttt, I have $53 to your $105 so your team will come out of the draft a lot better. My base is young too, really no one is old. I gotta get good filler cheap vets.

Yeah I really hope Monroe gets moved, will open things up a lot. Smith will have to ditch the labradoodle 3s.

TJ Warren = stitches in the face. Side note, you see what happened to Collin Cowgill on that bunt?! Yikes, I was watching that game.

Geeeeeeeeeez! Welcome to some better talent, Parker! Funny it was Duke blocking Dook. Here’s the link if anyone else is reading : http://www.nba.com/video/games/suns/2014/07/13/1521400021-mil-phx-play3.nba/

Shroeder, yeah needs time. LaVine has soem great upside and the Wolves are rebuilding. He’ll have his chances, but nothing consistent. Anderson = yawn. Probably out of the rotation at some point. Stauskas…I just dunno… Not loving him, ThrAGNOF upside seems about it.

I saw the Vonleh boards! I’ll def take the under he gets a game like that this year haha. Especially with big Al. Well, if Al gets hurt for a long while, then it’s possible.

THE PAJAMA MAN DOESN’T TEACH ANYONE HOW TO SHOOT! Mostly, not himself either.

Man, I pushed for Snell a lot and it looks like he’ll still be a role player. Oh well. Butler is interesting and I might rank really well too. I ranked him high last year, got really scared with his foot injury, but he fraught through it and did well.

        • Slim

          Slim says:
          (link)

@JB Gilpin: I like Snell so much better than the other 2, especially for fantasy, but the Bulls hate youth. I don’t think this is going to be Snell’s breakout year quite yet. Dunleavy is probably going to get 27-30 min and be the “best” option out of the 3 for fantasy. Just not on my team.

Your 9 look good, better than most I bet. Joseph, Scott, and Middleton all have to be kept for $1 but all 3 need some help to see good minutes. I’m especially worried about Scott with Payne on board. We’re both set up nicely for next year. My goal this year is to not be in the bottom half of the league at the midway point. I traded away a ton of talent last year and I’ve already started regretting a few… *sniffle* I miss Timmy Jr.

Jazz v Bucks last night. Exum took a little hit to his stock yesterday, pretty empty stat line for 30 minutes in summer league. Everyone loves Gobert and he could very well overtake Kanter’s starting job. But for fantasy he’s only going to be ownable if you’re punting FTs. You have been warned. Trey Burke is getting worse, I’m not going anywhere near him in redraft. I think I’m going to rank him well after Collison and Elfrid. Antetok and Parker did their thing, neither was special but they both are easily in the top 100 for me. Now you have me paying attention to Antetok’s assists. 5 yesterday. I like it. Oh yeah Rodney Hood got hot from downtown. 5 assists and 2 steals are nice too, maybe he can do a little more than just be a spot up shooter.

I’m not being impressed by Randle. The rebound rate is way off where it needs to be to just make him even ownable in a 12er. He’s rapidly falling out of my top 150.

The Heat youts struggled but with Chalmers coming back it looks like Napier is destined for the bench. Ennis still has a shot for minutes behind Wade and Deng, 2 older injury prone players. Not draftable or anything, probably not even $1 in the REL but he’ll make my REL watch list. So not even top 300. OK maybe I should stop talking about him.

Wiggins and Bennett are both playing OK. I’m not overly impressed with either. Noel on the other hand… I put him at 100 before summer league, he’s now in the late 80’s or so, just like his haircut.

Vonleh, Hairston, Zeller, I don’t know if I really want to go near any of em in a 12er redraft.

Jordan Clarkson keeps scoring. Not sure what that means but he’s doin it.

Slo Mo is a perfect nickname for him. The biggest issue I see moving forward is what position can Kyle Anderson guard? 3s are too fast and 4s are too strong, most are probably too fast too. It’s worked before though, Diaw is a pretty good comparison, athletically, I think. I’m not sure anyone trying to win this year should be going for him in the REL though.

@Slim: Oh no, Timmy J misses you too! Yeah I think those guys will be decent filler though, Scott is more a 3/4 to Payne’s 4/5 so I think Scott will get some shots.

Yeah working for tomo’s post I looked at that game and Gobert is in it with the big blocks. Got a new nickname for him too :) Totally agree on Burke, def behind those guys. Might be out of top 100, actually I think he def will be.

Anteok is in tomorrow’s too! Yeah the assists and report he was playing the point a lot are encouraging. But it’s still Summer lEague

Randle, yeah, agree. We’ll be really low on him. Haha out of top 300 is def not mentionable list haha.

Oh man, Noel is about to get a super perm ala 60s for me! Really really impressive.

Vonleh is the only one close of those 3, just for upside. Not touching the other 2.

I saw that from Clarkson, but really nothing doing for fantasy impact, agree. I think $1 filler for Anderson is a good buy. But someone else might run him up, we shall see.
